Prvo je stigao nalog da stojimo doma. Od nas se tražilo da budemo odgovorni, dakle, nepokretni. Sav naš svijet morao se stisnuti između zahoda, kuhinje i spavaće sobe.
Tko je žudio za daljinama i širokim prostranstvima, mogao se utješiti samo odlaskom u kvartovski dućan. Nakon skoro dva mjeseca, situacija se, evo, počela relaksirati, do te mjere da već vabimo turiste obećanjima o sigurnom koridoru, kao da ih u oklopnom transporteru želimo evakuirati iz ratne zone. “Od kuće do destinacije”, poručuje naš ingeniozni slogan koji ljude brka s paketima, pa ti više nije jasno tko se njime želi reklamirati, hotelijeri ili poštari.
Vremena, očito, nisu baš bogom dana za čitanje knjiga koje se bave putovanjima. Ili je, upravo suprotno, možda baš sad pravi čas da posegnemo za takvom literaturom? Ako nam već tijela nisu u prilici slobodno se pomicati u prostoru, da nam se bar duh prolufta. “Bjeguni” Olge Tokarczuk (u prijevodu Mladena Martića) stigli su nam trinaest godina nakon poljske premijere (tamo je libar dobio prestižnu nagradu Nike) i dvije godine nakon izdanja na engleskome jeziku (koje je počašćeno nagradom Man Booker), u trenutku kad je naša žudnja za putovanjima dosegla vrhunac. A ta je žudnja središnji motiv “Bjeguna”.
ZAMAŠNI SVEZAK
Kažem li vam da se radi o romanu, ovu informaciju shvatite više kao neku vrstu radne hipoteze negoli kao preciznu, neporecivu definiciju. Jer, između korica ovoga zamašnog sveska zbijeno je 116 poglavlja od kojih su neka dugačka (ili je bolje reći kratka) samo jednu rečenicu, a neka se protežu na dvadesetak stranica. Svega se tu može naći: aforizama, eseja, poetičnih skica, vrlo kratkih i nešto duljih priča, “jednokratnih” i onih u nastavcima. Sve njih povezuje glas pripovjedačice čije nam ime ostaje nepoznato, a o čijem životu ne znamo bogzna što, osim da je Poljakinja, srednjih godina, i da je doma jedino kad tamo nije. Ona se ne kreće samo u prostoru, nego i u vremenu, pa čitatelje tako pripovjedni rukavci vode na Chopinov sprovod ili u vrijeme austrijskog cara Franje Prvog.
Olga Tokarczuk i na nas je mislila, pa je jednu storiju (isjeckanu u nekoliko nastavaka) locirala na Komižu, gdje poljskome turistu zagonetno nestaju supruga i dijete.
MRŽNJA SPRAM NOMADA
Duh knjige najbolje sažima priča čiji je naslov ujedno i naslov cijele knjige. Anuška, žena koja njeguje nasmrt bolesnog sina, uteći će od vlastitog života među moskovske beskućnike i upoznati ženu koja će joj otkriti mističnu sektu Bjeguna, lutalica koje sve vlasti proganjaju. Razlog? Ovako ga obrazlaže Anuškina vodičica kroz svijet ljudi s društvene margine:
“Tiranima svih boja, paklenim slugama, mržnja spram nomada urođena je – zato progone Cigane i Židove, zato prisilno naseljavaju sve slobodne ljude, obilježavaju ih adresom, koja nama znači presudu. Žele izgraditi okamenjeni poredak, protjecanje vremena učiniti prividom.
Učiniti da se dani ponavljaju i da ih je nemoguće razlikovati, izgraditi veliki stroj u kojemu će svaki stvor morati zauzeti svoje mjesto i izvoditi hinjene kretnje. (...) Pribosti svijet pomoću bar kodova, svakoj stvari dati etiketu, neka se zna kakva je to roba i koliko stoji.
Neka taj strani jezik bude ljudima nečitljiv, neka ga čitaju strojevi i automati, neka si noću u velikim podzemnim dućanima priređuju čitanje svoje crtičaste poezije. Kreći se, kreći. Blagoslovljen onaj koji ide.”
Osim što su knjiga o putovanjima, dakle, o slobodi, “Bjeguni” su i knjiga o smrtnosti, odnosno o očajničkim pokušajima da joj se utekne. Naratorica nam, naime, na samom početku knjige priznaje svoju bizarnu infišaciju: gdje god je putovanja dovedu, ona ne traži velike i ugledne muzeje, odnosno galerije, nego opskurne, skrajnute zbirke u kojima se čuvaju konzervirani dijelovi ljudskoga tijela ili čitave preparirane figure. S puno erudicije i strasti pripovjedačica nas uvodi u taj opskurni svijet, obrazlaže tehnike čuvanja tkiva i opisuje mogućnosti koje nam stoje na raspolaganju želimo li za vječnost sačuvati ono što vječnosti ne pripada.
Olga Tokarczuk autorica je čija mašta siječe takve okuke da vas iznenađuje svakom sljedećom rečenicom. No, ona ima i reportersko oko za detalj, i znanstvenički osjećaj za sintezu, i talent da u svakom naoko usputnom događaju razabre zahvalan materijal za priču, i meku ruku vrsne stilistice, i nijansirani osjećaj da svaku temu pretoči u formu koja će joj najbolje pristajati.
Da skratim, kad su vam već druge mogućnosti bijega sužene, svakako posegnite za “Bjegunima”. Jamčim vam višesatno uzbudljivo putovanje. Kojemu ćete se htjeti vraćati. •

Prvo je stigao nalog da stojimo doma. Od nas se tražilo da budemo odgovorni, dakle, nepokretni. Sav naš svijet morao se stisnuti između zahoda, kuhinje i spavaće sobe.
Tko je žudio za daljinama i širokim prostranstvima, mogao se utješiti samo odlaskom u kvartovski dućan. Nakon skoro dva mjeseca, situacija se, evo, počela relaksirati, do te mjere da već vabimo turiste obećanjima o sigurnom koridoru, kao da ih u oklopnom transporteru želimo evakuirati iz ratne zone. “Od kuće do destinacije”, poručuje naš ingeniozni slogan koji ljude brka s paketima, pa ti više nije jasno tko se njime želi reklamirati, hotelijeri ili poštari.
Vremena, očito, nisu baš bogom dana za čitanje knjiga koje se bave putovanjima. Ili je, upravo suprotno, možda baš sad pravi čas da posegnemo za takvom literaturom? Ako nam već tijela nisu u prilici slobodno se pomicati u prostoru, da nam se bar duh prolufta. “Bjeguni” Olge Tokarczuk (u prijevodu Mladena Martića) stigli su nam trinaest godina nakon poljske premijere (tamo je libar dobio prestižnu nagradu Nike) i dvije godine nakon izdanja na engleskome jeziku (koje je počašćeno nagradom Man Booker), u trenutku kad je naša žudnja za putovanjima dosegla vrhunac. A ta je žudnja središnji motiv “Bjeguna”.
ZAMAŠNI SVEZAK
Kažem li vam da se radi o romanu, ovu informaciju shvatite više kao neku vrstu radne hipoteze negoli kao preciznu, neporecivu definiciju. Jer, između korica ovoga zamašnog sveska zbijeno je 116 poglavlja od kojih su neka dugačka (ili je bolje reći kratka) samo jednu rečenicu, a neka se protežu na dvadesetak stranica. Svega se tu može naći: aforizama, eseja, poetičnih skica, vrlo kratkih i nešto duljih priča, “jednokratnih” i onih u nastavcima. Sve njih povezuje glas pripovjedačice čije nam ime ostaje nepoznato, a o čijem životu ne znamo bogzna što, osim da je Poljakinja, srednjih godina, i da je doma jedino kad tamo nije. Ona se ne kreće samo u prostoru, nego i u vremenu, pa čitatelje tako pripovjedni rukavci vode na Chopinov sprovod ili u vrijeme austrijskog cara Franje Prvog.
Olga Tokarczuk i na nas je mislila, pa je jednu storiju (isjeckanu u nekoliko nastavaka) locirala na Komižu, gdje poljskome turistu zagonetno nestaju supruga i dijete.
MRŽNJA SPRAM NOMADA
Duh knjige najbolje sažima priča čiji je naslov ujedno i naslov cijele knjige. Anuška, žena koja njeguje nasmrt bolesnog sina, uteći će od vlastitog života među moskovske beskućnike i upoznati ženu koja će joj otkriti mističnu sektu Bjeguna, lutalica koje sve vlasti proganjaju. Razlog? Ovako ga obrazlaže Anuškina vodičica kroz svijet ljudi s društvene margine:
“Tiranima svih boja, paklenim slugama, mržnja spram nomada urođena je – zato progone Cigane i Židove, zato prisilno naseljavaju sve slobodne ljude, obilježavaju ih adresom, koja nama znači presudu. Žele izgraditi okamenjeni poredak, protjecanje vremena učiniti prividom.
Učiniti da se dani ponavljaju i da ih je nemoguće razlikovati, izgraditi veliki stroj u kojemu će svaki stvor morati zauzeti svoje mjesto i izvoditi hinjene kretnje. (...) Pribosti svijet pomoću bar kodova, svakoj stvari dati etiketu, neka se zna kakva je to roba i koliko stoji.
Neka taj strani jezik bude ljudima nečitljiv, neka ga čitaju strojevi i automati, neka si noću u velikim podzemnim dućanima priređuju čitanje svoje crtičaste poezije. Kreći se, kreći. Blagoslovljen onaj koji ide.”
Osim što su knjiga o putovanjima, dakle, o slobodi, “Bjeguni” su i knjiga o smrtnosti, odnosno o očajničkim pokušajima da joj se utekne. Naratorica nam, naime, na samom početku knjige priznaje svoju bizarnu infišaciju: gdje god je putovanja dovedu, ona ne traži velike i ugledne muzeje, odnosno galerije, nego opskurne, skrajnute zbirke u kojima se čuvaju konzervirani dijelovi ljudskoga tijela ili čitave preparirane figure. S puno erudicije i strasti pripovjedačica nas uvodi u taj opskurni svijet, obrazlaže tehnike čuvanja tkiva i opisuje mogućnosti koje nam stoje na raspolaganju želimo li za vječnost sačuvati ono što vječnosti ne pripada.
Olga Tokarczuk autorica je čija mašta siječe takve okuke da vas iznenađuje svakom sljedećom rečenicom. No, ona ima i reportersko oko za detalj, i znanstvenički osjećaj za sintezu, i talent da u svakom naoko usputnom događaju razabre zahvalan materijal za priču, i meku ruku vrsne stilistice, i nijansirani osjećaj da svaku temu pretoči u formu koja će joj najbolje pristajati.
Da skratim, kad su vam već druge mogućnosti bijega sužene, svakako posegnite za “Bjegunima”. Jamčim vam višesatno uzbudljivo putovanje. Kojemu ćete se htjeti vraćati. •
