Airbnb se ustalio kao maksimalno poželjan servis za izjamljivanje apartmana, kuća, stanova itd. Upravo zato, “Barbarian” bi mogao biti košmaran svakome tko često koristi usluge Airbnb-a ili ih misli koristiti. Nije ovo prvi horor triler osovljen oko rentanja preko Airbnb-a (nedavno smo, primjerice, imali i “Kuću straha” ili “The Rental”, prvijenac glumca Davea Franca), ali je dosad najstrašniji.

Redatelj i scenarist Zach Cregger potvrđuje se kao netko koga treba držati na oku kad je horor žanr u pitanju: “Barbarian” je jedan od boljih filmova strave iz za žanr prilično plodne 2022. godine (“X”, “Ne govori zlo”, “Vrisak”, “Crni telefon”, “Nevini”, “Bodies Bodies Bodies”, “Smiješak”...).

Cregger većinski tipuje na izazivanje strave i užasa iz realne situacije, nečeg što se može dogoditi svakome od nas, konkretno dupli buking na Airbnb-u. To se događa mladoj Tess (Georgina Campbell) koja dolazi u Detroit na razgovor za posao i iznajmljuje kuću u neuglednom predgrađu za jednu noć.

Atmosfera je pogođena. Kasna je večer, kiša lije kao iz kabla, susjedstvo odašilje neprijateljske vibracije. Tess želi što prije ući u kuću, ali u pretincu je ne čeka ključ, a vlasnik se ne javlja na mobitel. Najednom, svjetlo se u kući pali. Netko je već unutra!? Vrata otvara pospani Keith (Bill Skarsgård), govori da je iznajmio kuću i to može potkrijepiti rezervacijom.

Keith uvjerava Tess da uđe, pa i prespava jer je u Detroitu u tijeku neka konvencija i neće naći smještaj u ovo doba noći, na što ona nevoljko pristaje. Velikodušno joj prepušta sobu i pristaje spavati na kauču. Djevojka je sumnjičava prema ljubaznosti prijateljski nastrojenog stranca jer on može biti i “čudak koji je provalio tu da spava”, premda tvrdi da nije.

Sumnjičav je i gledatelj: Keitha glumi Skarsgård, klaun Pennywise iz horora “Ono”. U redu, Keith očito nije Pennywise, iako se čini da bi mogao postati kad navuče plahtu na sebe izgledajući načas poput duha, ali ne vjerujemo mu u potpunosti, kao ni Tess, jer “ima puno sjebanih tipova”.

Čudna situacija je redatelju povod da oslika ranjivost ženskog lika i uopće nelagodu, dok polako bilda tihu i sporogoreću jezu te predstavlja Tess kao zdravorazumsku djevojku koja će fotkati Keithovu osobnu i odbiti šalicu čaja i vino, čak i kad on kaže da će natočiti čašu ispred nje.

Ipak, čašica razgovora opušta Tess i čini se da bi film mogao postati romantična komedija prije nego vrata njezine sobe zaškripe usred noći i otvore se taman toliko da ona može vidjeti i čuti Keitha kako bunca u snu. Što se ovdje događa? Film je najbolje gledati bez ikakvog predznanja i prepustiti se redateljevoj profilaciji likova i horora kao takvog.

Tako, Tess još neko vrijeme nastavlja donositi logičke odluke i izbjegavati rizike. U jednoj sceni naglas kaže “Neće ići!”, čime “Barbarian” kao da se nadovezuje na “Nope” Jordana Peelea. Stvari se u tom pogledu mijenjaju kad spletom okolnosti dođe red da otvori vrata podruma (ljudskog uma), koji je svojevrsna babuška, s vratima koja vode do skrivenih soba i drugih vrata što se otvaraju konopom.

”Nešto loše se odvija ovdje”, shvaća Tess kad ugleda krevet, kantu, kamera i trag ruke na zidu. Što točno loše, redatelj prolongira otkriti i potencira uznemirujuću misteriju, kao i strah od mraka i mračnih tajnih podrumskih hodnika nalik labirintu i katakombama, ubrzavajući puls gledatelja kad se zagleda u duboku tamu, odakle nešto može i hoće izletjeti.

Prva polovica “Barbariana” je adrenalinska, izvanredna i nepredvidljiva u postizanju horora, a ako je druga nešto manje impresivna nakon što u priču uleti novi lik i na adresi 476 Barbary se pojavi vlasnik kuće, glumac optužen za napastvovanje kolegice AJ (Justin Long), film svejedno umije ugodno iznenaditi i kad pojedina otkrića dođu na naplatu i priča postane opterećena povremenim žanrovskim klišejima i obligatornim oslanjanjem na #MeToo.

Film umije biti i metaforički te društveno-politički intoniran u podtekstu, s naglaskom na gentrifikaciju i ekonomsko propadanje Detroita, na određeni nastavljajući tamo gdje su stali “To dolazi” i “Ne diši”. “Barbarian” s njima tvori neslužbenu “detroitsku” hororsku trilogiju.

"Barbarian" je u američkim kinima zaradio 40 milijuna dolara na budžet od nekih četiri i pol. U svjetskim kinima je imao veoma limitiranu kinodistribuciju i osvanuo na Disney+ streaming servisu.

Airbnb se ustalio kao maksimalno poželjan servis za izjamljivanje apartmana, kuća, stanova itd. Upravo zato, “Barbarian” bi mogao biti košmaran svakome tko često koristi usluge Airbnb-a ili ih misli koristiti. Nije ovo prvi horor triler osovljen oko rentanja preko Airbnb-a (nedavno smo, primjerice, imali i “Kuću straha” ili “The Rental”, prvijenac glumca Davea Franca), ali je dosad najstrašniji.

Redatelj i scenarist Zach Cregger potvrđuje se kao netko koga treba držati na oku kad je horor žanr u pitanju: “Barbarian” je jedan od boljih filmova strave iz za žanr prilično plodne 2022. godine (“X”, “Ne govori zlo”, “Vrisak”, “Crni telefon”, “Nevini”, “Bodies Bodies Bodies”, “Smiješak”...).

Cregger većinski tipuje na izazivanje strave i užasa iz realne situacije, nečeg što se može dogoditi svakome od nas, konkretno dupli buking na Airbnb-u. To se događa mladoj Tess (Georgina Campbell) koja dolazi u Detroit na razgovor za posao i iznajmljuje kuću u neuglednom predgrađu za jednu noć.

Atmosfera je pogođena. Kasna je večer, kiša lije kao iz kabla, susjedstvo odašilje neprijateljske vibracije. Tess želi što prije ući u kuću, ali u pretincu je ne čeka ključ, a vlasnik se ne javlja na mobitel. Najednom, svjetlo se u kući pali. Netko je već unutra!? Vrata otvara pospani Keith (Bill Skarsgård), govori da je iznajmio kuću i to može potkrijepiti rezervacijom.

Keith uvjerava Tess da uđe, pa i prespava jer je u Detroitu u tijeku neka konvencija i neće naći smještaj u ovo doba noći, na što ona nevoljko pristaje. Velikodušno joj prepušta sobu i pristaje spavati na kauču. Djevojka je sumnjičava prema ljubaznosti prijateljski nastrojenog stranca jer on može biti i “čudak koji je provalio tu da spava”, premda tvrdi da nije.

Sumnjičav je i gledatelj: Keitha glumi Skarsgård, klaun Pennywise iz horora “Ono”. U redu, Keith očito nije Pennywise, iako se čini da bi mogao postati kad navuče plahtu na sebe izgledajući načas poput duha, ali ne vjerujemo mu u potpunosti, kao ni Tess, jer “ima puno sjebanih tipova”.

Čudna situacija je redatelju povod da oslika ranjivost ženskog lika i uopće nelagodu, dok polako bilda tihu i sporogoreću jezu te predstavlja Tess kao zdravorazumsku djevojku koja će fotkati Keithovu osobnu i odbiti šalicu čaja i vino, čak i kad on kaže da će natočiti čašu ispred nje.

Ipak, čašica razgovora opušta Tess i čini se da bi film mogao postati romantična komedija prije nego vrata njezine sobe zaškripe usred noći i otvore se taman toliko da ona može vidjeti i čuti Keitha kako bunca u snu. Što se ovdje događa? Film je najbolje gledati bez ikakvog predznanja i prepustiti se redateljevoj profilaciji likova i horora kao takvog.

Tako, Tess još neko vrijeme nastavlja donositi logičke odluke i izbjegavati rizike. U jednoj sceni naglas kaže “Neće ići!”, čime “Barbarian” kao da se nadovezuje na “Nope” Jordana Peelea. Stvari se u tom pogledu mijenjaju kad spletom okolnosti dođe red da otvori vrata podruma (ljudskog uma), koji je svojevrsna babuška, s vratima koja vode do skrivenih soba i drugih vrata što se otvaraju konopom.

”Nešto loše se odvija ovdje”, shvaća Tess kad ugleda krevet, kantu, kamera i trag ruke na zidu. Što točno loše, redatelj prolongira otkriti i potencira uznemirujuću misteriju, kao i strah od mraka i mračnih tajnih podrumskih hodnika nalik labirintu i katakombama, ubrzavajući puls gledatelja kad se zagleda u duboku tamu, odakle nešto može i hoće izletjeti.

Prva polovica “Barbariana” je adrenalinska, izvanredna i nepredvidljiva u postizanju horora, a ako je druga nešto manje impresivna nakon što u priču uleti novi lik i na adresi 476 Barbary se pojavi vlasnik kuće, glumac optužen za napastvovanje kolegice AJ (Justin Long), film svejedno umije ugodno iznenaditi i kad pojedina otkrića dođu na naplatu i priča postane opterećena povremenim žanrovskim klišejima i obligatornim oslanjanjem na #MeToo.

Film umije biti i metaforički te društveno-politički intoniran u podtekstu, s naglaskom na gentrifikaciju i ekonomsko propadanje Detroita, na određeni nastavljajući tamo gdje su stali “To dolazi” i “Ne diši”. “Barbarian” s njima tvori neslužbenu “detroitsku” hororsku trilogiju.

"Barbarian" je u američkim kinima zaradio 40 milijuna dolara na budžet od nekih četiri i pol. U svjetskim kinima je imao veoma limitiranu kinodistribuciju i osvanuo na Disney+ streaming servisu.
