Američkog predsjednika Donalda Trumpa je početkom 2020. očekivao siguran drugi mandat u Bijeloj kući jer je Americi donio dugo razdoblje gospodarskog rasta i rekordno niske nezaposlenosti.

No, na proljeće 2020. sve se naglo promijenilo. Pandemija koronavirusa je izazvala strašnu recesiju koja je zemlju gospodarski vratila deset godina unazad i „pomela“ Trumpov politički kapital. Ovako je ekspertni tim The Economista krajem lipnja ove godine točno predvidio rezultat vrlo napetih i još uvijek nezavršenih američkih predsjedničkih izbora.

Nevjerojatni siječanj

Kao i uvijek u Americi, u prvom planu je bila ekonomija koja se, usprkos tome što je Trumpova vlada izdijelila barem 2 trilijuna dolara (2 s 12 nula) nije dovoljno oporavila. Nade da bi u trećem kvartalu, dakle neposredno pred izbore, ekonomija mogla ponovo rasti izjalovile su se. Isto kao i Trumpovo obećanje da će stići američko cjepivo protiv koronavirusa.

Čak štoviše, The Economist smatra da početak oporavka nije realno očekivati do kraja 2021. Do tada će vrlo slaba tržišna potražnja „pritiskati“ poduzetnike i održavati nezaposlenost na otprilike 10 posto, što je skoro tri puta više od Trumpova sjajnog rezultata od 3,5 posto u siječnju 2020.

Usporedo s „udarcem“ koji je dobio od korone, Trump je počinio i jednu ozbiljnu političku pogrešku.

Suočavajući se s rasnim nemirima kakve Amerika nije vidjela još od 60-ih godina prošlog stoljeća, Trump je reagirao čvrstom politikom „reda i zakona“, što je odlično odjeknulo među njegovim glasačima koji čine malo manje od polovine američkog biračkog tijela. No, ostalima je njegovo držanje izgledalo „svađalačko“. Posebno je važno što je taj dojam bio izražen među neodlučnim biračima u „prevrtljivim“ saveznim državama kao što su Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida i Wisconsin, koji su mu prije četiri godine donijeli pobjedu.

Ti birači, posebno oni u predgrađima velikih gradova i stanovnici industrijskih područja pogođenih krizom, Trumpovo su postupanje vidjeli kao politiku „čvrste ruke“.

Početak u podrumu

Zbog svega ovoga se sredinom 2020. ukupno raspoloženje američkih birača okrenulo protiv Trumpa. Pod utjecajem ekonomske krize koju su pratile kritike za neučinkovitu borbu protiv koronavirusa, mnogi su Amerikanci na Trumpa počeli gledati s negodovanjem. Naime, usprkos dijeljenju državnih potpora koje su mnogima olakšale život, brojna su se američka kućanstva našla u vrlo teškoj financijskoj situaciji, što su zamjerali predsjedniku.

Zato se u Trumpovoj političkoj momčadi sredinom 2020. upalilo nekoliko crvenih lampica koje su upozoravale da on gubi političko tlo pod nogama.

Najvažnija crvena lampica bila je neočekivani uspon Joea Bidena. Iako je predizbornu kampanju, zbog karantene, započeo iz podruma svoje kuće, Bidenove političke karte su se vrlo brzo posložile na najbolji mogući način. Nakon predizbora u Demokratskoj stranci, oko sebe je okupio više od dvije trećine pristalica stranke jer je notornog hipija-socijalista (kako ga nazivaju zlobnici) Bernieja Sandersa uspio nagovoriti da se povuče iz utrke.

Također, za razliku od Hillary Clinton, koja je 2016. okupila tek oko pola pristalica Demokratske stranke, Biden je uspio privući glasove industrijskih radnika, što mu je pomoglo da osvoji „prevrtljivu“ saveznu državu Michigan.

No, u čitavoj priči, smatraju eksperti The Economista, važnu su ulogu igrale nepredvidljive, „divlje“ političke karte koje su manje-više završile u Bidenovim rukama.

Osim korona-recesije i rasnih nemira, važna karta u američkom političkom pokeru bio je Trumpov trgovački rat s Kinom. Ovaj rat, za koji je imao potporu i Republikanske i Demokratske stranke, politički je štetio Trumpu jer su američki farmeri, inače Trumpovi birači, ostali bez zarade od izvoza hrane u mnogoljudnu Kinu.

Važna politička karta bila je i Bidenova potpredsjednica Kamala Harris, koja je privukla mnoge žene kojima je Trumpov mačizam odbojan.

Opasna „poštanska demokracija“

No, najvažnija karta je bila „poštanska demokracija“ koja je, po svemu sudeći, važno ali opasno političko oružje Demokratske stranke.

„Ako američki poštanski sustav zakaže, rezultati izbora će biti upitni, što će značiti neuredan prijenos vlasti u Bijeloj kući“, konstatirali su u lipnju eksperti The Economista.

Ove riječi razotkrivaju pozadini trenutne globalne medijsko-političke halabuke oko novog stanara Bijele kuće. Zato ne treba čuditi što odvjetnički tim predsjednika Trumpa namjerava prebrojiti svaki glasački listić pristigao poštom.

U tom smislu potpisniku ovih redova bujica čestitki Joeu Bidenu izgleda preuranjeno.

Gledano u povijesnoj perspektivi, moglo bi ispasti da će Biden i svi čestitari ostati neugodno iznenađeni kao što je 2000. neugodno iznenađen bio predsjednički kandidat Demokratske stranke Al Gore, koji je ustuknuo pred republikancem Georgeom Bushom.

Američkog predsjednika Donalda Trumpa je početkom 2020. očekivao siguran drugi mandat u Bijeloj kući jer je Americi donio dugo razdoblje gospodarskog rasta i rekordno niske nezaposlenosti.

No, na proljeće 2020. sve se naglo promijenilo. Pandemija koronavirusa je izazvala strašnu recesiju koja je zemlju gospodarski vratila deset godina unazad i „pomela“ Trumpov politički kapital. Ovako je ekspertni tim The Economista krajem lipnja ove godine točno predvidio rezultat vrlo napetih i još uvijek nezavršenih američkih predsjedničkih izbora.

Nevjerojatni siječanj

Kao i uvijek u Americi, u prvom planu je bila ekonomija koja se, usprkos tome što je Trumpova vlada izdijelila barem 2 trilijuna dolara (2 s 12 nula) nije dovoljno oporavila. Nade da bi u trećem kvartalu, dakle neposredno pred izbore, ekonomija mogla ponovo rasti izjalovile su se. Isto kao i Trumpovo obećanje da će stići američko cjepivo protiv koronavirusa.

Čak štoviše, The Economist smatra da početak oporavka nije realno očekivati do kraja 2021. Do tada će vrlo slaba tržišna potražnja „pritiskati“ poduzetnike i održavati nezaposlenost na otprilike 10 posto, što je skoro tri puta više od Trumpova sjajnog rezultata od 3,5 posto u siječnju 2020.

Usporedo s „udarcem“ koji je dobio od korone, Trump je počinio i jednu ozbiljnu političku pogrešku.

Suočavajući se s rasnim nemirima kakve Amerika nije vidjela još od 60-ih godina prošlog stoljeća, Trump je reagirao čvrstom politikom „reda i zakona“, što je odlično odjeknulo među njegovim glasačima koji čine malo manje od polovine američkog biračkog tijela. No, ostalima je njegovo držanje izgledalo „svađalačko“. Posebno je važno što je taj dojam bio izražen među neodlučnim biračima u „prevrtljivim“ saveznim državama kao što su Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida i Wisconsin, koji su mu prije četiri godine donijeli pobjedu.

Ti birači, posebno oni u predgrađima velikih gradova i stanovnici industrijskih područja pogođenih krizom, Trumpovo su postupanje vidjeli kao politiku „čvrste ruke“.

Početak u podrumu

Zbog svega ovoga se sredinom 2020. ukupno raspoloženje američkih birača okrenulo protiv Trumpa. Pod utjecajem ekonomske krize koju su pratile kritike za neučinkovitu borbu protiv koronavirusa, mnogi su Amerikanci na Trumpa počeli gledati s negodovanjem. Naime, usprkos dijeljenju državnih potpora koje su mnogima olakšale život, brojna su se američka kućanstva našla u vrlo teškoj financijskoj situaciji, što su zamjerali predsjedniku.

Zato se u Trumpovoj političkoj momčadi sredinom 2020. upalilo nekoliko crvenih lampica koje su upozoravale da on gubi političko tlo pod nogama.

Najvažnija crvena lampica bila je neočekivani uspon Joea Bidena. Iako je predizbornu kampanju, zbog karantene, započeo iz podruma svoje kuće, Bidenove političke karte su se vrlo brzo posložile na najbolji mogući način. Nakon predizbora u Demokratskoj stranci, oko sebe je okupio više od dvije trećine pristalica stranke jer je notornog hipija-socijalista (kako ga nazivaju zlobnici) Bernieja Sandersa uspio nagovoriti da se povuče iz utrke.

Također, za razliku od Hillary Clinton, koja je 2016. okupila tek oko pola pristalica Demokratske stranke, Biden je uspio privući glasove industrijskih radnika, što mu je pomoglo da osvoji „prevrtljivu“ saveznu državu Michigan.

No, u čitavoj priči, smatraju eksperti The Economista, važnu su ulogu igrale nepredvidljive, „divlje“ političke karte koje su manje-više završile u Bidenovim rukama.

Osim korona-recesije i rasnih nemira, važna karta u američkom političkom pokeru bio je Trumpov trgovački rat s Kinom. Ovaj rat, za koji je imao potporu i Republikanske i Demokratske stranke, politički je štetio Trumpu jer su američki farmeri, inače Trumpovi birači, ostali bez zarade od izvoza hrane u mnogoljudnu Kinu.

Važna politička karta bila je i Bidenova potpredsjednica Kamala Harris, koja je privukla mnoge žene kojima je Trumpov mačizam odbojan.

Opasna „poštanska demokracija“

No, najvažnija karta je bila „poštanska demokracija“ koja je, po svemu sudeći, važno ali opasno političko oružje Demokratske stranke.

„Ako američki poštanski sustav zakaže, rezultati izbora će biti upitni, što će značiti neuredan prijenos vlasti u Bijeloj kući“, konstatirali su u lipnju eksperti The Economista.

Ove riječi razotkrivaju pozadini trenutne globalne medijsko-političke halabuke oko novog stanara Bijele kuće. Zato ne treba čuditi što odvjetnički tim predsjednika Trumpa namjerava prebrojiti svaki glasački listić pristigao poštom.

U tom smislu potpisniku ovih redova bujica čestitki Joeu Bidenu izgleda preuranjeno.

Gledano u povijesnoj perspektivi, moglo bi ispasti da će Biden i svi čestitari ostati neugodno iznenađeni kao što je 2000. neugodno iznenađen bio predsjednički kandidat Demokratske stranke Al Gore, koji je ustuknuo pred republikancem Georgeom Bushom.

Američkog predsjednika Donalda Trumpa je početkom 2020. očekivao siguran drugi mandat u Bijeloj kući jer je Americi donio dugo razdoblje gospodarskog rasta i rekordno niske nezaposlenosti.

No, na proljeće 2020. sve se naglo promijenilo. Pandemija koronavirusa je izazvala strašnu recesiju koja je zemlju gospodarski vratila deset godina unazad i „pomela“ Trumpov politički kapital. Ovako je ekspertni tim The Economista krajem lipnja ove godine točno predvidio rezultat vrlo napetih i još uvijek nezavršenih američkih predsjedničkih izbora.

Nevjerojatni siječanj

Kao i uvijek u Americi, u prvom planu je bila ekonomija koja se, usprkos tome što je Trumpova vlada izdijelila barem 2 trilijuna dolara (2 s 12 nula) nije dovoljno oporavila. Nade da bi u trećem kvartalu, dakle...
