Nakon što je lani u studenome izgubio američke izbore, mnogi su strahovali da će Donald Trump u razdoblju do Bidenove inauguracije napasti Iran kako bi spriječio primopredaju vlasti. Izvještaj koji je prije nekidan objavio američki časopis The New Yorker potvrđuje da su ti strahovi bili opravdani – Trump je doista intenzivno razmišljao o napadu na Iran.

Kako naglašava New Yorkerova novinarka Susan B. Glasser, ključni čovjek koji je spriječio realizaciju tog Trumpova nauma bio je šef glavnog stožera američke vojske, general Mark Milley.

"U mjesecima nakon izbora, s Trumpom koji je bio spreman učiniti sve kako bi ostao na vlasti, tema Irana opetovano je pokretana na sastancima Bijele kuće s predsjednikom, a Milley je opet argumentirao protiv napada", piše Glasser, koja je razgovarala s velikim brojem izvora povezanih s Bijelom kućom.

"Ovaj izvještaj o zakulisnoj borbi oko Irana između Milleya i Trumpa - tajna pozadina javne drame koju je pokrenulo Trumpovo nezapamćeno odbijanje da prihvati rezultate predsjedničkih izbora - dolazi iz nekih od skoro dvjesto intervjua koje sam zajedno sa suprugom, novinarom Timesa Peterom Bakerom, provela za knjigu o Trumpovu predsjedništvu koja će izići dogodine", piše Glasser.

Uz to, novinarka New Yorkera pri pisanju izvještaja koristila se i dvjema upravo objavljenim knjigama o Trumpu, čiji su autori novinar Michael Bender iz Wall Street Journala, odnosno novinari Philip Rucker i Carol Leonnig iz Washington Posta.

General Milley za opciju mogućeg napada na Iran doznao je već početkom prošle godine na jednom sastanku s Trumpom, kad je jedan od Trumpovih savjetnika spomenuo kako u slučaju da Trump izgubi izbore postoji mogućnost poduzimanja vojne akcije protiv Irana, s izlikom da Iran razvija nuklearno oružje.

Na drugom sastanku neki predsjednikovi savjetnici za vanjsku politiku opet su razmatrali vojnu akciju protiv Irana. Milley je kasnije svojim suradnicima ispričao da je predsjednikove ljude upitao zašto tako silno žele napasti Iran, na što mu je potpredsjednik SAD-a Mike Pence odgovorio: "Jer su zli."

Slično je rezonirao i tadašnji državni tajnik Mike Pompeo.
 

VOJNICI PAMETNIJI OD CIVILA

Osim Pencea i Pompea, Trump je oko sebe imao još niz protuiranski nastrojenih "jastrebova": među njima je bio i tadašnji izraelski premijer Benjamin Netanyahu, koji je također, nakon što je postalo jasno da je Trump izgubio izbore, pozivao Bijelu kuću da djeluje protiv Irana. Štoviše, Netanyahu je čak proslijedio SAD-u popis vojnih ciljeva i meta u Iranu.

"Ako to učiniš, imat ćeš jebeni rat!" - navodi New Yorker riječi koje je general Milley u tim prilikama upućivao Trumpu.

Milley je svoje suradnike upozoravao da nakon izbora 3. studenoga postoje "dva scenarija noćne more". Jedan je bio da će Trump pokušati "upotrijebiti vojsku na ulicama Amerike kako bi spriječio legitiman, miran prijenos moći". Drugi se odnosio na vanjsku krizu koja bi uključivala Iran: Milley se bojao da će to biti Trumpov "trenutak Reichstaga", u kojem će, kao Hitler 1933., umjetno proizvesti krizu da "spasi naciju" od imaginarnog neprijatelja.

Da bi spriječio takav ishod, Milley je sve do kraja 2020. godine održavao svakodnevne jutarnje telefonske sastanke, u osam ujutro, sa šefom ureda Bijele kuće Markom Meadowsom i državnim tajnikom Pompeom. Svojim suradnicima te je sastanke opisivao kao "prizemljivanje aviona kojemu su oba motora otkazala i stajni trap se zaglavio, tako da smo u hitnoj situaciji. Naš je posao sigurno spustiti ovaj avion i osigurati miran prijenos vlasti 20. siječnja".

Tih dana Milley je izradio plan za opasno razdoblje do Bidenove inauguracije te je suradnicima iznio četiri cilja: osigurati da SAD nepotrebno ne ratuje u inozemstvu; osigurati da američke postrojbe ne budu korištene na ulicama SAD-a protiv američkog naroda u svrhu održavanja Trumpa na vlasti; održati integritet vojske; zadržati osobni integritet.

Milley se i više puta privatno sastao s visokim zapovjednicima američke vojske te ih upozorio na moguće Trumpove nezakonite naredbe, poručivši im da ne izvršavaju takve zapovijedi a da ga prethodno ne pozovu i ne konzultiraju se s njim. Time je general osigurao da Trump ne može pokrenuti nikakav rat, ni domaći ni međunarodni, bez njegova znanja.

Šef američkoga glavnog stožera odahnuo je tek 3. siječnja ove godine, kad su u Ovalnom uredu Bijele kuće državni tajnik Pompeo i savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost Robert O’Brien rekli Trumpu da u pogledu Irana više "nije moguće učiniti ništa vojno", odnosno da je "sada kasno da ih udarimo". Potom je general Milley iznio potencijalne troškove i posljedice takvog vojnog pohoda te se ponovo usprotivio toj ideji, na što je Trump konačno odustao.

Tako se pokazalo da su u Bijeloj kući ovog puta vojnici bili pametniji i razumniji od civila.

Nakon što je lani u studenome izgubio američke izbore, mnogi su strahovali da će Donald Trump u razdoblju do Bidenove inauguracije napasti Iran kako bi spriječio primopredaju vlasti. Izvještaj koji je prije nekidan objavio američki časopis The New Yorker potvrđuje da su ti strahovi bili opravdani – Trump je doista intenzivno razmišljao o napadu na Iran.

Kako naglašava New Yorkerova novinarka Susan B. Glasser, ključni čovjek koji je spriječio realizaciju tog Trumpova nauma bio je šef glavnog stožera američke vojske, general Mark Milley.

"U mjesecima nakon izbora, s Trumpom koji je bio spreman učiniti sve kako bi ostao na vlasti, tema Irana opetovano je pokretana na sastancima Bijele kuće s predsjednikom, a Milley je opet argumentirao protiv napada", piše Glasser, koja je razgovarala s velikim brojem izvora povezanih s Bijelom kućom.

"Ovaj izvještaj o zakulisnoj borbi oko Irana između Milleya i Trumpa - tajna pozadina javne drame koju je pokrenulo Trumpovo nezapamćeno odbijanje da prihvati rezultate predsjedničkih izbora - dolazi iz nekih od skoro dvjesto intervjua koje sam zajedno sa suprugom, novinarom Timesa Peterom Bakerom, provela za knjigu o Trumpovu predsjedništvu koja će izići dogodine", piše Glasser.

Uz to, novinarka New Yorkera pri pisanju izvještaja koristila se i dvjema upravo objavljenim knjigama o Trumpu, čiji su autori novinar Michael Bender iz Wall Street Journala, odnosno novinari Philip Rucker i Carol Leonnig iz Washington Posta.

General Milley za opciju mogućeg napada na Iran doznao je već početkom prošle godine na jednom sastanku s Trumpom, kad je jedan od Trumpovih savjetnika spomenuo kako u slučaju da Trump izgubi izbore postoji mogućnost poduzimanja vojne akcije protiv Irana, s izlikom da Iran razvija nuklearno oružje.

Na drugom sastanku neki predsjednikovi savjetnici za vanjsku politiku opet su razmatrali vojnu akciju protiv Irana. Milley je kasnije svojim suradnicima ispričao da je predsjednikove ljude upitao zašto tako silno žele napasti Iran, na što mu je potpredsjednik SAD-a Mike Pence odgovorio: "Jer su zli."

Slično je rezonirao i tadašnji državni tajnik Mike Pompeo.
 

VOJNICI PAMETNIJI OD CIVILA

Osim Pencea i Pompea, Trump je oko sebe imao još niz protuiranski nastrojenih "jastrebova": među njima je bio i tadašnji izraelski premijer Benjamin Netanyahu, koji je također, nakon što je postalo jasno da je Trump izgubio izbore, pozivao Bijelu kuću da djeluje protiv Irana. Štoviše, Netanyahu je čak proslijedio SAD-u popis vojnih ciljeva i meta u Iranu.

"Ako to učiniš, imat ćeš jebeni rat!" - navodi New Yorker riječi koje je general Milley u tim prilikama upućivao Trumpu.

Milley je svoje suradnike upozoravao da nakon izbora 3. studenoga postoje "dva scenarija noćne more". Jedan je bio da će Trump pokušati "upotrijebiti vojsku na ulicama Amerike kako bi spriječio legitiman, miran prijenos moći". Drugi se odnosio na vanjsku krizu koja bi uključivala Iran: Milley se bojao da će to biti Trumpov "trenutak Reichstaga", u kojem će, kao Hitler 1933., umjetno proizvesti krizu da "spasi naciju" od imaginarnog neprijatelja.

Da bi spriječio takav ishod, Milley je sve do kraja 2020. godine održavao svakodnevne jutarnje telefonske sastanke, u osam ujutro, sa šefom ureda Bijele kuće Markom Meadowsom i državnim tajnikom Pompeom. Svojim suradnicima te je sastanke opisivao kao "prizemljivanje aviona kojemu su oba motora otkazala i stajni trap se zaglavio, tako da smo u hitnoj situaciji. Naš je posao sigurno spustiti ovaj avion i osigurati miran prijenos vlasti 20. siječnja".

Tih dana Milley je izradio plan za opasno razdoblje do Bidenove inauguracije te je suradnicima iznio četiri cilja: osigurati da SAD nepotrebno ne ratuje u inozemstvu; osigurati da američke postrojbe ne budu korištene na ulicama SAD-a protiv američkog naroda u svrhu održavanja Trumpa na vlasti; održati integritet vojske; zadržati osobni integritet.

Milley se i više puta privatno sastao s visokim zapovjednicima američke vojske te ih upozorio na moguće Trumpove nezakonite naredbe, poručivši im da ne izvršavaju takve zapovijedi a da ga prethodno ne pozovu i ne konzultiraju se s njim. Time je general osigurao da Trump ne može pokrenuti nikakav rat, ni domaći ni međunarodni, bez njegova znanja.

Šef američkoga glavnog stožera odahnuo je tek 3. siječnja ove godine, kad su u Ovalnom uredu Bijele kuće državni tajnik Pompeo i savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost Robert O’Brien rekli Trumpu da u pogledu Irana više "nije moguće učiniti ništa vojno", odnosno da je "sada kasno da ih udarimo". Potom je general Milley iznio potencijalne troškove i posljedice takvog vojnog pohoda te se ponovo usprotivio toj ideji, na što je Trump konačno odustao.

Tako se pokazalo da su u Bijeloj kući ovog puta vojnici bili pametniji i razumniji od civila.
