Brazilska vlada obećala je u četvrtak izdvojiti oko devet milijardi eura za obnovu države Rio Grande do Sul, regije opustošene nezapamćenim smrtonosnim poplavama i pod prijetnjom novih kiša.
Najmanje 107 ljudi je poginulo, 754 ih je ozlijeđeno, a 134 se vode kao nestale nakon olujnih kiša koje su cijeli prošli tjedan padale u ovoj južnoj regiji, navodi se u izvješću Civilne zaštite objavljenom u četvrtak navečer.
Oko 1,7 milijuna ljudi je pogođeno, a više od 327.000 evakuirano zbog prirodne katastrofe koju stručnjaci i vlada povezuju s klimatskim promjenama. Dok se spasilački timovi još uvijek bore kako bi spasili stanovnike i životinje zarobljene u vodi, šef države Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva predsjedao je sastankom u Brasiliji na kojem se raspravljalo o odgovorima na tragediju.
"Savezna vlada odlučila je ubrizgati resurse od oko 50 milijardi reala (oko devet milijardi eura) u Rio Grande do Sul", objavio je ministar financija Fernando Haddad.
Ove poplave pogodile su glavni grad države Porto Alegre i njegovih 1,4 milijuna stanovnika, ali i više od 400 mjesta u regiji. Oko 60.000 domova je oštećeno ili uništeno. Spasilačke ekipe nastavile su u četvrtak potragu za ljudima koji su zarobljeni u svojim domovima ili ne žele otići iz straha od pljačke.
Drugi golemi zadatak za lokalne vlasti je jačanje logistike kako bi se ubrzala distribucija osnovnih dobara žrtvama katastrofe, a od petka se predviđa još kiše.
"Fokus je uvijek na spašavanju, ali vrlo intenzivno radimo na isporuci humanitarne pomoći", rekla je glasnogovornica Civilne zaštite Sabrina Ribas.
Očekuje se da će ti napori biti "donekle" ometeni sljedećih dana s obzirom na prognozu za jaku kišu od petka, upozorila je.
Poplave su uzrokovale probleme i u državnim zatvorima, koji su zatražili pomoć nakon što su ostali bez pitke vode, a u zatvoru Charqueadas grupa zatvorenika morala je biti premještena na gornje katove.
Geste solidarnosti stigle su i iz inozemstva. Papa Franjo poslao je 100.000 eura za pomoć u zbrinjavanju evakuiranih, piše na web stranici Vatican News, a Elon Musk je na svojoj mreži X objavio da će njegova tvrtka Starlink donirati tisuću internet terminala spasilačkim ekipama.
"Nadam se najboljem za brazilski narod", dodao je milijarder, nedavno upleten u sukob s brazilskim pravosuđem.

Brazilska vlada obećala je u četvrtak izdvojiti oko devet milijardi eura za obnovu države Rio Grande do Sul, regije opustošene nezapamćenim smrtonosnim poplavama i pod prijetnjom novih kiša.
Najmanje 107 ljudi je poginulo, 754 ih je ozlijeđeno, a 134 se vode kao nestale nakon olujnih kiša koje su cijeli prošli tjedan padale u ovoj južnoj regiji, navodi se u izvješću Civilne zaštite objavljenom u četvrtak navečer.
Oko 1,7 milijuna ljudi je pogođeno, a više od 327.000 evakuirano zbog prirodne katastrofe koju stručnjaci i vlada povezuju s klimatskim promjenama. Dok se spasilački timovi još uvijek bore kako bi spasili stanovnike i životinje zarobljene u vodi, šef države Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva predsjedao je sastankom u Brasiliji na kojem se raspravljalo o odgovorima na tragediju.
"Savezna vlada odlučila je ubrizgati resurse od oko 50 milijardi reala (oko devet milijardi eura) u Rio Grande do Sul", objavio je ministar financija Fernando Haddad.
Ove poplave pogodile su glavni grad države Porto Alegre i njegovih 1,4 milijuna stanovnika, ali i više od 400 mjesta u regiji. Oko 60.000 domova je oštećeno ili uništeno. Spasilačke ekipe nastavile su u četvrtak potragu za ljudima koji su zarobljeni u svojim domovima ili ne žele otići iz straha od pljačke.
Drugi golemi zadatak za lokalne vlasti je jačanje logistike kako bi se ubrzala distribucija osnovnih dobara žrtvama katastrofe, a od petka se predviđa još kiše.
"Fokus je uvijek na spašavanju, ali vrlo intenzivno radimo na isporuci humanitarne pomoći", rekla je glasnogovornica Civilne zaštite Sabrina Ribas.
Očekuje se da će ti napori biti "donekle" ometeni sljedećih dana s obzirom na prognozu za jaku kišu od petka, upozorila je.
Poplave su uzrokovale probleme i u državnim zatvorima, koji su zatražili pomoć nakon što su ostali bez pitke vode, a u zatvoru Charqueadas grupa zatvorenika morala je biti premještena na gornje katove.
Geste solidarnosti stigle su i iz inozemstva. Papa Franjo poslao je 100.000 eura za pomoć u zbrinjavanju evakuiranih, piše na web stranici Vatican News, a Elon Musk je na svojoj mreži X objavio da će njegova tvrtka Starlink donirati tisuću internet terminala spasilačkim ekipama.
"Nadam se najboljem za brazilski narod", dodao je milijarder, nedavno upleten u sukob s brazilskim pravosuđem.
