U 8:46 ujutru 11. rujna 2001. godine avion “Boeing 767” udario je u Sjeverni toranj Svjetskog trgovačkog centra u New Yorku. U 9.03 drugi “Boeing 767” udario je u Južni toranj. Za 17 minuta američka povijest zauvijek je promijenjena. Fotografije nastale tog dana podjednako su užasne koliko i povijesne. Jedna od najpoznatijih i najpotresnijih je “Falling man” ili “Čovjek u padu”.

Tog kobnog jutra Richard Drew, Pulitzerom nagrađeni fotograf agencije Associated Press, nije ni slutio kakav prizor će zabilježiti.

Tijekom svoje bogate karijere fotoaparatom je zabilježio neke povijesne prizore. Bio je jedan od tek četvorice fotografa prisutnih 1968. godine kada je ubijen Robert Kennedy. Bio je toliko blizu da je Kennedyjeva krv poprskala njegovu jaknu, piše Srbija danas.

Više od tri desetljeća poslije, 11. rujna 2001. godine, fotografirao je modnu reviju za trudnice u okviru Tjedna mode u New Yorku. Bio je na zadatku kada je od snimatelja CNN-a čuo da je avion udario u Sjeverni toranj.

Istog trenutka pozvao ga je urednik AP-a. Spakirao je opremu i trčao do metroa. Kada je stigao na mjesto nesreće zatekao je nestvaran prizor – tornjevi blizanci u plamenu i oblaku gustog dima.

Fotografirao je zgrade u plamenu i spasitelje na terenu kada je čuo jednog radnika hitne pomoći kako izgovara: ”Bože, vidi njih!”. Tada je ugledao ljude koji su u očaju skakali ili padali sa 110 katova visokih nebodera koji su gorjeli.

- Instinktivno sam podigao fotoaparat i počeo ih pratiti dok su padali - rekao je poslije.

Bilo je 9:41:15 kada je zabilježio prizor koji se danas smatra jednom od najpotresnijih slika terorističkih napada 11. rujna – čovjek koji pada sa Sjevernog tornja nekoliko trenutaka pre nego što će se on urušiti.

U tom trenutku ni sam nije bio svjestan što je zabilježio.

- Nisam znao da imam fotografiju tog čovjeka u tom položaju sve dok je nisam vidio na svom kompjuteru - rekao je.

Sljedećeg dana ta fotografija objavljena je u desecima novina širom SAD, uključujući i New York Times. Međutim, reakcija publike zbog grafičke prirode fotografije bila je burna i žalbe su se nizale. Fotografija je ocijenjena kao "uznemirujuća“, "eksploatatorska“ i "voajeristička“, pa “Čovjek u padu” dugo nije ponovo objavljivan.

- Ne znamo je li umro na putu dolje… kažu… Priča se da ćete umrijeti prije… Znate, prije nego što padnete… Ne znamo je li ga vatra natjerala da skoči ili je sam izabrao svoju sudbinu - rekao je Drew u jednom intervjuu, prenosi SD.

Tko je bio "Čovjek u padu"?

U godinama poslije najsmrtonosnijeg napada na američkom tlu, mediji su pokušavali odgonetnuti tko je čovjek čiji su posljednji trenuci života zabilježeni objektivom Richarda Drewa.

Tijelo nikada nije pronađeno, samim tim ni identificirano, ali brojne teorije su kružile.

Reporter kanadskog lista The Globe and Mail svojevremeno je tvrdio da je riječ o Norbertu Hernandezu, slastičaru zaposlenom u kafiću na 106. katu Sjevernog tornja. U početku je i Hernandezova obitelj tvrdila je da je on na fotografiji, međutim nakon detaljnijeg pregleda odjeće “Čovjeka u padu” odustali su od svojih tvrdnji.

Tom Junod, novinar lista Esquire, poslije je tvrdio da je “Čovjek u padu” zapravo audioinženjer po imenu Jonathan Briley. Njegov menadžer i obitelj složili su se da muška odjeća na fotografiji sliči na uobičajenu odjeću koju je Jonathan nosio.

- Kada sam prvi put pogledala fotografiju, rekla sam: ‘To bi mogao biti Jonathan - izjavila je njegova sestra Gwendoline.

Ali iako se čini da se odjeća i opis Jonathana Brileya podudaraju s onim što se vidi na fotografiji "Čovjek u padu“, nitko sa sigurnošću ne može reći je li to on. Čak ni njemu bliski ljudi nisu sigurni što je odjenuo toga dana. Toga 11. rujna 2001. godine poljubio je suprugu dok je još spavala i otišao rano na posao.

Danas, dva desetljeća poslije, fotografija "Čovjek u padu“ predstavlja mnogo više od sudbine samo jednog čovjeka. Ona je zapravo simbol stradanja i predstavlja sve one koji su 11. rujna odlučili skočiti prije nego što stradaju u urušavanju zgrade ili izgore u plamenu.

To je i razlog zbog kojeg Richard Drew nikada nije zažalio što je snimio ovu fotogarfiju.

- To je jedna od rijetkih fotografija koje prikazuju kako netko umire tog dana. Većina prikazuje uništavanje tornjeva, ali ne i bol ljudi - rekao je.

- To je jako tiha fotografija. Nije nasilna kao sve ostale fotografije nesreća. Nema krvi, nitko nije upucan. Volim o njemu razmišljati kao o nepoznatom vojniku. Neka predstavlja sve koji su tog dana imali takvu sudbinu - rekao je Drew.

Iako točnih podataka nema, procjene su da je 200 ljudi okončalo svoj život 11. rujna 2001. godine na isti način kao ”Čovjek u padu”, piše SD.

U 8:46 ujutru 11. rujna 2001. godine avion “Boeing 767” udario je u Sjeverni toranj Svjetskog trgovačkog centra u New Yorku. U 9.03 drugi “Boeing 767” udario je u Južni toranj. Za 17 minuta američka povijest zauvijek je promijenjena. Fotografije nastale tog dana podjednako su užasne koliko i povijesne. Jedna od najpoznatijih i najpotresnijih je “Falling man” ili “Čovjek u padu”.

Tog kobnog jutra Richard Drew, Pulitzerom nagrađeni fotograf agencije Associated Press, nije ni slutio kakav prizor će zabilježiti.

Tijekom svoje bogate karijere fotoaparatom je zabilježio neke povijesne prizore. Bio je jedan od tek četvorice fotografa prisutnih 1968. godine kada je ubijen Robert Kennedy. Bio je toliko blizu da je Kennedyjeva krv poprskala njegovu jaknu, piše Srbija danas.

Više od tri desetljeća poslije, 11. rujna 2001. godine, fotografirao je modnu reviju za trudnice u okviru Tjedna mode u New Yorku. Bio je na zadatku kada je od snimatelja CNN-a čuo da je avion udario u Sjeverni toranj.

Istog trenutka pozvao ga je urednik AP-a. Spakirao je opremu i trčao do metroa. Kada je stigao na mjesto nesreće zatekao je nestvaran prizor – tornjevi blizanci u plamenu i oblaku gustog dima.

Fotografirao je zgrade u plamenu i spasitelje na terenu kada je čuo jednog radnika hitne pomoći kako izgovara: ”Bože, vidi njih!”. Tada je ugledao ljude koji su u očaju skakali ili padali sa 110 katova visokih nebodera koji su gorjeli.

- Instinktivno sam podigao fotoaparat i počeo ih pratiti dok su padali - rekao je poslije.

Bilo je 9:41:15 kada je zabilježio prizor koji se danas smatra jednom od najpotresnijih slika terorističkih napada 11. rujna – čovjek koji pada sa Sjevernog tornja nekoliko trenutaka pre nego što će se on urušiti.

U tom trenutku ni sam nije bio svjestan što je zabilježio.

- Nisam znao da imam fotografiju tog čovjeka u tom položaju sve dok je nisam vidio na svom kompjuteru - rekao je.

Sljedećeg dana ta fotografija objavljena je u desecima novina širom SAD, uključujući i New York Times. Međutim, reakcija publike zbog grafičke prirode fotografije bila je burna i žalbe su se nizale. Fotografija je ocijenjena kao "uznemirujuća“, "eksploatatorska“ i "voajeristička“, pa “Čovjek u padu” dugo nije ponovo objavljivan.

- Ne znamo je li umro na putu dolje… kažu… Priča se da ćete umrijeti prije… Znate, prije nego što padnete… Ne znamo je li ga vatra natjerala da skoči ili je sam izabrao svoju sudbinu - rekao je Drew u jednom intervjuu, prenosi SD.

Tko je bio "Čovjek u padu"?

U godinama poslije najsmrtonosnijeg napada na američkom tlu, mediji su pokušavali odgonetnuti tko je čovjek čiji su posljednji trenuci života zabilježeni objektivom Richarda Drewa.

Tijelo nikada nije pronađeno, samim tim ni identificirano, ali brojne teorije su kružile.

Reporter kanadskog lista The Globe and Mail svojevremeno je tvrdio da je riječ o Norbertu Hernandezu, slastičaru zaposlenom u kafiću na 106. katu Sjevernog tornja. U početku je i Hernandezova obitelj tvrdila je da je on na fotografiji, međutim nakon detaljnijeg pregleda odjeće “Čovjeka u padu” odustali su od svojih tvrdnji.

Tom Junod, novinar lista Esquire, poslije je tvrdio da je “Čovjek u padu” zapravo audioinženjer po imenu Jonathan Briley. Njegov menadžer i obitelj složili su se da muška odjeća na fotografiji sliči na uobičajenu odjeću koju je Jonathan nosio.

- Kada sam prvi put pogledala fotografiju, rekla sam: ‘To bi mogao biti Jonathan - izjavila je njegova sestra Gwendoline.

Ali iako se čini da se odjeća i opis Jonathana Brileya podudaraju s onim što se vidi na fotografiji "Čovjek u padu“, nitko sa sigurnošću ne može reći je li to on. Čak ni njemu bliski ljudi nisu sigurni što je odjenuo toga dana. Toga 11. rujna 2001. godine poljubio je suprugu dok je još spavala i otišao rano na posao.

Danas, dva desetljeća poslije, fotografija "Čovjek u padu“ predstavlja mnogo više od sudbine samo jednog čovjeka. Ona je zapravo simbol stradanja i predstavlja sve one koji su 11. rujna odlučili skočiti prije nego što stradaju u urušavanju zgrade ili izgore u plamenu.

To je i razlog zbog kojeg Richard Drew nikada nije zažalio što je snimio ovu fotogarfiju.

- To je jedna od rijetkih fotografija koje prikazuju kako netko umire tog dana. Većina prikazuje uništavanje tornjeva, ali ne i bol ljudi - rekao je.

- To je jako tiha fotografija. Nije nasilna kao sve ostale fotografije nesreća. Nema krvi, nitko nije upucan. Volim o njemu razmišljati kao o nepoznatom vojniku. Neka predstavlja sve koji su tog dana imali takvu sudbinu - rekao je Drew.

Iako točnih podataka nema, procjene su da je 200 ljudi okončalo svoj život 11. rujna 2001. godine na isti način kao ”Čovjek u padu”, piše SD.
