Meksiko, Čile i Kostarika počeli su masovno cijepljenje protiv novog koronavirusa u četvrtak prvom dozom Pfizerova i BioNTechova cjepiva, a Argentina cijepi građane prvom dozom ruskoga kontroverznog cjepiva Sputnik V.
Medicinsko osoblje na prvoj crti u Meksiku i Čileu među prvima je primilo cjepivo, Kostarika je počela svoj program imunizacije, a predsjednik Carlos Alvarado pozdravio je "ono što bi moglo biti početak kraja ove pandemije".
Međutim globalni optimizam ublažen je dok se Kina i Brazil priključuju nizu od više od 50 vlada koje su ograničile letove iz Britanije ili zračni promet u oba smjera, nakon što je ondje prvi put potvrđen visokozarazni soj koronavirusa.
Tisuće kamiona ostalo je zaglavljeno u glavnoj britanskoj luci, a Francuska je poslala 10.000 testova za vozače prije no što im dopusti prelazak preko Kanala.
Unatoč novom soju za koji je britanski premijer Boris Johnson rekao da se "do 70 posto brže prenosi" od izvornog koronavirusa, Britanija je rekla da će tijekom Božića željezničke i pomorske veze s Francuskom ostati otvorene.
Meksiko putem televizije prati početak cijepljenja stanovništva nakon što je primio prvih 3000 doza Pfizerova i BioNTechova cjepiva iz Belgije.
"To je najbolji poklon koji sam mogla dobiti u 2020. godini", rekla je 59-godišnja meksička medicinska sestra Maria Irene Ramirez dok je primala injekciju u glavnoj bolnici.
Meksiko je registrirao više od 120.000 umrlih od covida-19, i četvrti je u svijetu po broju smrtnih ishoda nakon Sjedinjenih Država, Brazila i Indije.
'Uzbuđena i nervozna'
Prva osoba u Čileu koja je primila cjepivo njegovateljica je Zulema Riquelme, a cijepljena je u prisutnosti predsjednika Sebastiana Pinera.
"Vrlo sam uzbuđena i nervozna", rekla je nekoliko sati nakon što je zrakoplovom u zemlju stiglo prvih 10.000 doza Pfizer-BioNTechova cjepiva.
Elizabeth Castillo, 91-godišnja štićenica doma za umirovljenike, vezana za invalidska kolica, prva je osoba u Kostariki koja je cijepljena.
"Jako sam zahvalna Bogu, jer sam toliko toga tražila od njega. Moj život mi je jako važan, zato iskoristite svaki trenutak", rekla je.
Argentina je u međuvremenu primila prvih 300.000 doza kontroverznoga ruskog cjepiva Sputnik V u četvrtak, koji je stigao posebnim zrakoplovom iz Moskve.
To je prva latinoamerička zemlja koja je odobrila rusko cjepivo.
Argentinski predsjednik Alberto Fernandez obećao je da će se prvi cijepiti Sputnikom kako bi dokazao da je sigurno, nakon kritika da je registrirano prije nego su počela velika klinička ispitivanja.

Meksiko, Čile i Kostarika počeli su masovno cijepljenje protiv novog koronavirusa u četvrtak prvom dozom Pfizerova i BioNTechova cjepiva, a Argentina cijepi građane prvom dozom ruskoga kontroverznog cjepiva Sputnik V.
Medicinsko osoblje na prvoj crti u Meksiku i Čileu među prvima je primilo cjepivo, Kostarika je počela svoj program imunizacije, a predsjednik Carlos Alvarado pozdravio je "ono što bi moglo biti početak kraja ove pandemije".
Međutim globalni optimizam ublažen je dok se Kina i Brazil priključuju nizu od više od 50 vlada koje su ograničile letove iz Britanije ili zračni promet u oba smjera, nakon što je ondje prvi put potvrđen visokozarazni soj koronavirusa.
Tisuće kamiona ostalo je zaglavljeno u glavnoj britanskoj luci, a Francuska je poslala 10.000 testova za vozače prije no što im dopusti prelazak preko Kanala.
Unatoč novom soju za koji je britanski premijer Boris Johnson rekao da se "do 70 posto brže prenosi" od izvornog koronavirusa, Britanija je rekla da će tijekom Božića željezničke i pomorske veze s Francuskom ostati otvorene.
Meksiko putem televizije prati početak cijepljenja stanovništva nakon što je primio prvih 3000 doza Pfizerova i BioNTechova cjepiva iz Belgije.
"To je najbolji poklon koji sam mogla dobiti u 2020. godini", rekla je 59-godišnja meksička medicinska sestra Maria Irene Ramirez dok je primala injekciju u glavnoj bolnici.
Meksiko je registrirao više od 120.000 umrlih od covida-19, i četvrti je u svijetu po broju smrtnih ishoda nakon Sjedinjenih Država, Brazila i Indije.
'Uzbuđena i nervozna'
Prva osoba u Čileu koja je primila cjepivo njegovateljica je Zulema Riquelme, a cijepljena je u prisutnosti predsjednika Sebastiana Pinera.
"Vrlo sam uzbuđena i nervozna", rekla je nekoliko sati nakon što je zrakoplovom u zemlju stiglo prvih 10.000 doza Pfizer-BioNTechova cjepiva.
Elizabeth Castillo, 91-godišnja štićenica doma za umirovljenike, vezana za invalidska kolica, prva je osoba u Kostariki koja je cijepljena.
"Jako sam zahvalna Bogu, jer sam toliko toga tražila od njega. Moj život mi je jako važan, zato iskoristite svaki trenutak", rekla je.
Argentina je u međuvremenu primila prvih 300.000 doza kontroverznoga ruskog cjepiva Sputnik V u četvrtak, koji je stigao posebnim zrakoplovom iz Moskve.
To je prva latinoamerička zemlja koja je odobrila rusko cjepivo.
Argentinski predsjednik Alberto Fernandez obećao je da će se prvi cijepiti Sputnikom kako bi dokazao da je sigurno, nakon kritika da je registrirano prije nego su počela velika klinička ispitivanja.
