Dva soja koronavirusa spojili su svoje genome u visoko mutiranu hibridnu verziju virusa.

Slučaj "rekombinacije" otkriven je u uzorku virusa u Kaliforniji, a njegovo otkriće upozorava da bismo možda mogli ući i u novu fazu pandemije. Kako piše New Scientist novi hibrid virusa rezultat je rekombinacije visoko prenosive varijante otkrivene u Velikoj Britaniji i inačice virusa otkrivene u Kaliforniji za koju se pretpostavlja da je odgovorna za nedavni veliki val zaraze u Los Angelesu.

Riječ je o varijanti B.1.429 koronavirusa koji je otporan na postojeća antitijela onih koji su već preboljeli koronu. Uz britanski, južnoafrički i brazilski, kalifornijski soj još je jedna, dugo cirkulirajuća mutacija koronavirusa.

- Još uvijek je manji broj zaraženih kalifornijskim sojem, ali čini se da je ova inačica zaraznija od izvorne, što ne znači da je riječ o težem obliku kliničke slike. Ono što zasad znamo o britanskom soju, ulijeva nadu da većina cjepiva pruža zaštitu i protiv novih sojeva tako da se nadamo da će tako biti i u slučaju ovog kalifornijskog - ocijenila je dr. Jasmine Plummer, iz Medicinskog centra Cedars-Sinai u Los Angelesu.

Rekombinciju britanskog i kalifornijskog soja otkrila je dr. Bette Korber iz Nacionalnog laboratorija Los Alamos u Novom Meksiku. Ona je još prije dva tjedna na predavanju u New York Academy of Sciences nagovijestila da je u bazi američkih virusnih genoma uočila prilično jasne dokaze o tome.

Ako se potvrdi njezino otkriće, ovo će biti prvi 'rekombinant' otkriven u ovoj pandemiji. U prosincu i siječnju dvije su istraživačke skupine izvijestile da nisu pronašli empirijske dokaze o rekombinaciji virusa, iako se to već dugo očekivalo, jer je to uobičajeno kod koronavirusa. Za razliku od redovite mutacije, gdje se promjene akumuliraju jedna po jedna, rekombinacija može okupiti više mutacija u jednom potezu.

Riječki imunolog prof. dr. Zlatko Trobonjača objasnio je kako se rekombinacija događa u stanjima kada dva različita virusa pripadnika iste obitelji, primjerice koronavirusa ili virusa gripe, zaraze istu stanicu te potom mehanizmom replikacijskog ciklusa međusobno pomiješaju proizvode svojih genetskih uputa stvarajući novi virusni entitet koji predstavlja kombinaciju ova prethodna dva virusa.

Time nastaju virusi novih karakteristika u smislu mogućnosti infekcije stanice, replikacije, mogućnosti širenja u populaciji, virulentnosti i patogenosti. Protiv takvih novih oblika virusa praktički nitko u populaciji nema stvorenu imunost pa se lako šire zbog čega mogu uzrokovati nove pandemije. Stvaranja novih rekombinantnih oblika virusa i posljedičnih pandemija bilo je veći broj u prošlosti, a najpoznatija je pandemija španjolske gripe.

Bette Korber je uočila samo jedan rekombinantni genom među tisućama sekvenci i nije zasad jasno prenosi li se virus s osobe na osobu ili je to bilo samo jednokratno.

Dr. Sergej Pond sa sveučilišta Temple u Pennsylvaniji, koji se bavi rekombinatima i uspoređuje tisuće sljedova genoma prenesenih u baze podataka, napominje kako još uvijek nema dokaza o široko rasprostranjenoj rekombinaciji, ali također podsjeća na činjenicu kako se svi „koronavirusi rekombiniraju, pa je pitanje kada će se to dogoditi, a ne hoće li se to dogoditi“.

Dva soja koronavirusa spojili su svoje genome u visoko mutiranu hibridnu verziju virusa.

Slučaj "rekombinacije" otkriven je u uzorku virusa u Kaliforniji, a njegovo otkriće upozorava da bismo možda mogli ući i u novu fazu pandemije. Kako piše New Scientist novi hibrid virusa rezultat je rekombinacije visoko prenosive varijante otkrivene u Velikoj Britaniji i inačice virusa otkrivene u Kaliforniji za koju se pretpostavlja da je odgovorna za nedavni veliki val zaraze u Los Angelesu.

Riječ je o varijanti B.1.429 koronavirusa koji je otporan na postojeća antitijela onih koji su već preboljeli koronu. Uz britanski, južnoafrički i brazilski, kalifornijski soj još je jedna, dugo cirkulirajuća mutacija koronavirusa.

- Još uvijek je manji broj zaraženih kalifornijskim sojem, ali čini se da je ova inačica zaraznija od izvorne, što ne znači da je riječ o težem obliku kliničke slike. Ono što zasad znamo o britanskom soju, ulijeva nadu da većina cjepiva pruža zaštitu i protiv novih sojeva tako da se nadamo da će tako biti i u slučaju ovog kalifornijskog - ocijenila je dr. Jasmine Plummer, iz Medicinskog centra Cedars-Sinai u Los Angelesu.

Rekombinciju britanskog i kalifornijskog soja otkrila je dr. Bette Korber iz Nacionalnog laboratorija Los Alamos u Novom Meksiku. Ona je još prije dva tjedna na predavanju u New York Academy of Sciences nagovijestila da je u bazi američkih virusnih genoma uočila prilično jasne dokaze o tome.

Ako se potvrdi njezino otkriće, ovo će biti prvi 'rekombinant' otkriven u ovoj pandemiji. U prosincu i siječnju dvije su istraživačke skupine izvijestile da nisu pronašli empirijske dokaze o rekombinaciji virusa, iako se to već dugo očekivalo, jer je to uobičajeno kod koronavirusa. Za razliku od redovite mutacije, gdje se promjene akumuliraju jedna po jedna, rekombinacija može okupiti više mutacija u jednom potezu.

Riječki imunolog prof. dr. Zlatko Trobonjača objasnio je kako se rekombinacija događa u stanjima kada dva različita virusa pripadnika iste obitelji, primjerice koronavirusa ili virusa gripe, zaraze istu stanicu te potom mehanizmom replikacijskog ciklusa međusobno pomiješaju proizvode svojih genetskih uputa stvarajući novi virusni entitet koji predstavlja kombinaciju ova prethodna dva virusa.

Time nastaju virusi novih karakteristika u smislu mogućnosti infekcije stanice, replikacije, mogućnosti širenja u populaciji, virulentnosti i patogenosti. Protiv takvih novih oblika virusa praktički nitko u populaciji nema stvorenu imunost pa se lako šire zbog čega mogu uzrokovati nove pandemije. Stvaranja novih rekombinantnih oblika virusa i posljedičnih pandemija bilo je veći broj u prošlosti, a najpoznatija je pandemija španjolske gripe.

Bette Korber je uočila samo jedan rekombinantni genom među tisućama sekvenci i nije zasad jasno prenosi li se virus s osobe na osobu ili je to bilo samo jednokratno.

Dr. Sergej Pond sa sveučilišta Temple u Pennsylvaniji, koji se bavi rekombinatima i uspoređuje tisuće sljedova genoma prenesenih u baze podataka, napominje kako još uvijek nema dokaza o široko rasprostranjenoj rekombinaciji, ali također podsjeća na činjenicu kako se svi „koronavirusi rekombiniraju, pa je pitanje kada će se to dogoditi, a ne hoće li se to dogoditi“.

Dva soja koronavirusa spojili su svoje genome u visoko mutiranu hibridnu verziju virusa.

Slučaj "rekombinacije" otkriven je u uzorku virusa u Kaliforniji, a njegovo otkriće upozorava da bismo možda mogli ući i u novu fazu pandemije. Kako piše New Scientist novi hibrid virusa rezultat je rekombinacije visoko prenosive varijante otkrivene u Velikoj Britaniji i inačice virusa otkrivene u Kaliforniji za koju se pretpostavlja da je odgovorna za nedavni veliki val zaraze u Los Angelesu.

Riječ je o varijanti B.1.429 koronavirusa koji je otporan na postojeća antitijela onih koji su već preboljeli koronu. Uz britanski, južnoafrički i brazilski, kalifornijski soj još je jedna, dugo cirkulirajuća mutacija koronavirusa.

- Još uvijek je manji broj zaraženih kalifornijskim sojem, ali...
