Britanski znanstvenici nazvali su ledenjak koji se brzo topi na Antarktici po Glasgowu, škotskom gradu domaćinu ovogodišnje globalne klimatske konferencije COP26, u pokušaju da skrenu pažnju na globalno zatopljenje, objavio je London u nedjelju.

Nekoliko drugih ledenjaka također je kršteno po gradovima koji su bili domaćini važnih klimatskih sastanaka - uključujući Ženevu, mjesto prve međunarodne konferencije o klimi 1979., i Berlin, koji je bio domaćin prve Konferencije stranaka (COP) 1995. godine.

"Nazivom ovog blistavog diva prirode po gradu u kojem će se sljedećeg tjedna okupiti čovječanstvo kako bi se borili za budućnost planeta, imamo snažan podsjetnik na ono na čemu radimo u svrhu očuvanja", rekao je britanski premijer Boris Johnson u priopćenju.

Rekao je da se nada "duhu odgovornosti i ambicije" koji će održati na životu cilj ograničenja globalnog zagrijavanja na najviše 1,5 stupnjeva Celzijevih u usporedbi s predindustrijskom razinom.

"Znamo da, ako nastavimo trenutnim putem emisija, idemo prema zagrijavanju od 2,7 stupnjeva (do kraja stoljeća)", rekla je za BBC znanstvenica Heather Selley, koja prati ledenjake putem satelita.

"Posljedice koje će to imati na intenzitet i redovitost događaja kao što su suše, poplave, ciklone, problemi s prinosom usjeva, itd.", bile su jasne, dodala je.

Istraživač sa Sveučilišta Leeds naglasio je da je COP26 ključan u suzbijanju ovakvog razvoja, kako bi se spriječilo "silazna putanja sa stalnim oslanjanjem na fosilna goriva i ispuštanjem stakleničkih plinova u atmosferu".

Prema njihovu istraživanju, ledenjaci uz obalu Getza na zapadu Antarktike izgubili su ukupno 315 milijardi tona leda tijekom posljednjih 25 godina, što je ekvivalent 126 milijuna olimpijskih bazena.

Ledenjak Glasgow dug je 104 kilometra i s površinom od 2630 četvornih kilometara, oko 15 puta je veći od škotskoga grada.

Konferencija COP26 službeno počinje u nedjelju.

Britanski znanstvenici nazvali su ledenjak koji se brzo topi na Antarktici po Glasgowu, škotskom gradu domaćinu ovogodišnje globalne klimatske konferencije COP26, u pokušaju da skrenu pažnju na globalno zatopljenje, objavio je London u nedjelju.

Nekoliko drugih ledenjaka također je kršteno po gradovima koji su bili domaćini važnih klimatskih sastanaka - uključujući Ženevu, mjesto prve međunarodne konferencije o klimi 1979., i Berlin, koji je bio domaćin prve Konferencije stranaka (COP) 1995. godine.

"Nazivom ovog blistavog diva prirode po gradu u kojem će se sljedećeg tjedna okupiti čovječanstvo kako bi se borili za budućnost planeta, imamo snažan podsjetnik na ono na čemu radimo u svrhu očuvanja", rekao je britanski premijer Boris Johnson u priopćenju.

Rekao je da se nada "duhu odgovornosti i ambicije" koji će održati na životu cilj ograničenja globalnog zagrijavanja na najviše 1,5 stupnjeva Celzijevih u usporedbi s predindustrijskom razinom.

"Znamo da, ako nastavimo trenutnim putem emisija, idemo prema zagrijavanju od 2,7 stupnjeva (do kraja stoljeća)", rekla je za BBC znanstvenica Heather Selley, koja prati ledenjake putem satelita.

"Posljedice koje će to imati na intenzitet i redovitost događaja kao što su suše, poplave, ciklone, problemi s prinosom usjeva, itd.", bile su jasne, dodala je.

Istraživač sa Sveučilišta Leeds naglasio je da je COP26 ključan u suzbijanju ovakvog razvoja, kako bi se spriječilo "silazna putanja sa stalnim oslanjanjem na fosilna goriva i ispuštanjem stakleničkih plinova u atmosferu".

Prema njihovu istraživanju, ledenjaci uz obalu Getza na zapadu Antarktike izgubili su ukupno 315 milijardi tona leda tijekom posljednjih 25 godina, što je ekvivalent 126 milijuna olimpijskih bazena.

Ledenjak Glasgow dug je 104 kilometra i s površinom od 2630 četvornih kilometara, oko 15 puta je veći od škotskoga grada.

Konferencija COP26 službeno počinje u nedjelju.

Britanski znanstvenici nazvali su ledenjak koji se brzo topi na Antarktici po Glasgowu, škotskom gradu domaćinu ovogodišnje globalne klimatske konferencije COP26, u pokušaju da skrenu pažnju na globalno zatopljenje, objavio je London u nedjelju.

Nekoliko drugih ledenjaka također je kršteno po gradovima koji su bili domaćini važnih klimatskih sastanaka - uključujući Ženevu, mjesto prve međunarodne konferencije o klimi 1979., i Berlin, koji je bio domaćin prve Konferencije stranaka (COP) 1995. godine.

"Nazivom ovog blistavog diva prirode po gradu u kojem će se sljedećeg tjedna okupiti čovječanstvo kako bi se borili za budućnost planeta, imamo snažan podsjetnik na ono na čemu radimo u svrhu očuvanja", rekao je britanski premijer Boris Johnson u priopćenju.
