Zemljina se jezgra možda prestala okretati ili se čak sada vrti unatrag, kaže nova studija. Jezgra našeg planeta sastoji se od vanjskog sloja tekućeg metala i unutarnje jezgre čvrstog metala koja je oko 70 posto veličine Mjeseca.

Općenito se vjeruje da se jezgra okreće u smjeru suprotnom od kazaljke na satu gledano sa Sjevernog pola. Ali studija koja analizira podatke o seizmičkim valovima u proteklih 60 godina od strane istraživača sa Sveučilišta u Pekingu zaključuje da je rotacija jezgre prestala oko 2009. godine, a zatim ponovno počela ali u suprotnom smjeru, piše Jutarnji.

"Mislimo da se jezgra, u odnosu na površinu Zemlje, okreće u jednom, a zatim u drugom smjeru, poput ljuljačke", rekli su za AFP autori studije Xiaodong Song i Yi Yang.

Puni ciklus ove ljuljačke (u jednom, pa u drugom smjeru) je oko 70 godina, dodaju.

Prema istraživačima, posljednja promjena rotacije prije 2009. godine, dogodila se početkom 70-ih, a sljedeća će se dogoditi sredinom 2040-ih.

Nalazi su kontroverzni

U znanstvenoj se zajednici još uvijek puno raspravlja o prirodi Zemljine jezgre, jer je prikupljanje informacija o istoj izuzetno teško. Rub vanjske jezgre susreće se za Zemljinim omotačem na dubini od oko 2890 kilometara, a vjeruje se da je ta vanjska jezgra napravljena od tekućeg željeza i nikla.

Unutarnja jezgra počinje oko 5000 kilometara ispod površine planeta, a smatra se da je napravljena od čvrstog željeza i nikla, zbog ekstremnog pritiska koji tjera atome metala da se "pakiraju" zajedno.

Nalazi se unutar tekuće vanjske jezgre i vjeruje se da se okreće u istom smjeru kao i ostatak Zemlje, a nalazi se temelje na analizama seizmičkih valova uzrokovanih potresima.

Xiaodong Song i Yi Yang proučavali su te seizmičke valove, pronalazeći povezano "postupno vraćanje unutarnjeg jezgre kao dio oscilacije od otprilike sedam desetljeća." Njihov rad obavljen je u časopisu Nature Geoscience.

"Ovo je vrlo oprezna studija koju su proveli vrsni znanstvenici i pritom su koristili mnogo podataka", rekao je John Vidale, seizmolog sa Sveučilišta Južne Karoline koji nije bio uključen u istraživanje. No, dodao je kako "nijedan od postojećih modela zapravo dobro ne objašnjava sve dostupne podatke."

Vidale je prošle godine objavio studiju koja sugerira da unutarnja jezgra oscilira mnogo brže, mijenjajući smjer otprilike svakih šest godina, prema seizmičkim podacima iz dviju nuklearnih eksplozija koje datiraju iz kasnih 1960-ih i ranih 1970-ih.

Drugi geofizičar, Hrvoje Tkalčić s Australskog nacionalnog sveučilišta, vjeruje da je ciklus unutarnje jezgre oko 20 do 30 godina, a ne 70 godina kako predlaže ovotjedna studija u Nature Geoscience.

Istraživači Pekinškog sveučilišta tvrde u svom radu da se ta oscilacija "poklapa s promjenama u nekoliko drugih geofizičkih promatranja", poput duljine dana i promjena Zemljinog magnetskog polja.

"Ova opažanja pružaju dokaze za dinamičke interakcije između Zemljinih slojeva, od najdublje unutrašnjosti do površine, potencijalno zbog gravitacijske sprege i izmjene kutnog momenta od jezgre i plašta do površine", pišu.

"Nadamo se da će naše istraživanje motivirati istraživače da dizajniraju i testiraju modele tretirajući Zemlju kao integrirani dinamički sustav", objašnjavaju.

Zemljina se jezgra možda prestala okretati ili se čak sada vrti unatrag, kaže nova studija. Jezgra našeg planeta sastoji se od vanjskog sloja tekućeg metala i unutarnje jezgre čvrstog metala koja je oko 70 posto veličine Mjeseca.

Općenito se vjeruje da se jezgra okreće u smjeru suprotnom od kazaljke na satu gledano sa Sjevernog pola. Ali studija koja analizira podatke o seizmičkim valovima u proteklih 60 godina od strane istraživača sa Sveučilišta u Pekingu zaključuje da je rotacija jezgre prestala oko 2009. godine, a zatim ponovno počela ali u suprotnom smjeru, piše Jutarnji.

"Mislimo da se jezgra, u odnosu na površinu Zemlje, okreće u jednom, a zatim u drugom smjeru, poput ljuljačke", rekli su za AFP autori studije Xiaodong Song i Yi Yang.

Puni ciklus ove ljuljačke (u jednom, pa u drugom smjeru) je oko 70 godina, dodaju.

Prema istraživačima, posljednja promjena rotacije prije 2009. godine, dogodila se početkom 70-ih, a sljedeća će se dogoditi sredinom 2040-ih.

Nalazi su kontroverzni

U znanstvenoj se zajednici još uvijek puno raspravlja o prirodi Zemljine jezgre, jer je prikupljanje informacija o istoj izuzetno teško. Rub vanjske jezgre susreće se za Zemljinim omotačem na dubini od oko 2890 kilometara, a vjeruje se da je ta vanjska jezgra napravljena od tekućeg željeza i nikla.

Unutarnja jezgra počinje oko 5000 kilometara ispod površine planeta, a smatra se da je napravljena od čvrstog željeza i nikla, zbog ekstremnog pritiska koji tjera atome metala da se "pakiraju" zajedno.

Nalazi se unutar tekuće vanjske jezgre i vjeruje se da se okreće u istom smjeru kao i ostatak Zemlje, a nalazi se temelje na analizama seizmičkih valova uzrokovanih potresima.

Xiaodong Song i Yi Yang proučavali su te seizmičke valove, pronalazeći povezano "postupno vraćanje unutarnjeg jezgre kao dio oscilacije od otprilike sedam desetljeća." Njihov rad obavljen je u časopisu Nature Geoscience.

"Ovo je vrlo oprezna studija koju su proveli vrsni znanstvenici i pritom su koristili mnogo podataka", rekao je John Vidale, seizmolog sa Sveučilišta Južne Karoline koji nije bio uključen u istraživanje. No, dodao je kako "nijedan od postojećih modela zapravo dobro ne objašnjava sve dostupne podatke."

Vidale je prošle godine objavio studiju koja sugerira da unutarnja jezgra oscilira mnogo brže, mijenjajući smjer otprilike svakih šest godina, prema seizmičkim podacima iz dviju nuklearnih eksplozija koje datiraju iz kasnih 1960-ih i ranih 1970-ih.

Drugi geofizičar, Hrvoje Tkalčić s Australskog nacionalnog sveučilišta, vjeruje da je ciklus unutarnje jezgre oko 20 do 30 godina, a ne 70 godina kako predlaže ovotjedna studija u Nature Geoscience.

Istraživači Pekinškog sveučilišta tvrde u svom radu da se ta oscilacija "poklapa s promjenama u nekoliko drugih geofizičkih promatranja", poput duljine dana i promjena Zemljinog magnetskog polja.

"Ova opažanja pružaju dokaze za dinamičke interakcije između Zemljinih slojeva, od najdublje unutrašnjosti do površine, potencijalno zbog gravitacijske sprege i izmjene kutnog momenta od jezgre i plašta do površine", pišu.

"Nadamo se da će naše istraživanje motivirati istraživače da dizajniraju i testiraju modele tretirajući Zemlju kao integrirani dinamički sustav", objašnjavaju.

Zemljina se jezgra možda prestala okretati ili se čak sada vrti unatrag, kaže nova studija. Jezgra našeg planeta sastoji se od vanjskog sloja tekućeg metala i unutarnje jezgre čvrstog metala koja je oko 70 posto veličine Mjeseca.

Općenito se vjeruje da se jezgra okreće u smjeru suprotnom od kazaljke na satu gledano sa Sjevernog pola. Ali studija koja analizira podatke o seizmičkim valovima u proteklih 60 godina od strane istraživača sa Sveučilišta u Pekingu zaključuje da je rotacija jezgre prestala oko 2009. godine, a zatim ponovno počela ali u suprotnom smjeru, piše Jutarnji.

"Mislimo da se jezgra, u odnosu na površinu Zemlje, okreće u jednom, a zatim u drugom smjeru, poput ljuljačke", rekli su za AFP autori studije Xiaodong Song i Yi Yang.
