Prema istraživanju provedenom u Hong Kongu, u nekim slučajevima moguća je ponovna infekcija koronavirusom kod ljudi koji su već bili zaraženi, piše New York Times.

Američki list donosi izvještaj hongkonških znanstvenika o pacijentu kojem je dijagnosticiran drugi slučaj Covida-19 više od četiri mjeseca nakon prvog.

„Naizgled mlad i zdrav pacijent imao je drugi slučaj infekcije Covid-19, koji je dijagnosticiran četiri i pol mjeseca nakon prve epizode”, izjavili su u ponedjeljak istraživači Sveučilišta u Hong Kongu.

Zaraženi 33-godišnji muškarac prvi je put, u travnju ove godine, imao samo blage simptome, dok su simptomi u ovom drugom navratu potpuno izostali. Reinfekcija je otkrivena kad se vratio s putovanja u Španjolsku, rekli su istraživači, a virus koji su sekvencionirali umnogome je odgovarao soju koji je cirkulirao u Europi u srpnju i kolovozu.

„Naši rezultati dokazuju da je njegova druga infekcija uzrokovana novim virusom kojim je nedavno zaražen, a ne dugotrajnim djelovanjem prvog virusa”, izjavio je dr. Kelvin Kai-Wang To, klinički mikrobiolog sa Sveučilišta u Hong Kongu.
Budući da u svijetu postoje milijuni slučajeva koronavirusne zaraze, nije neočekivano da bi se neki, pa čak i nekoliko desetaka ljudi, mogli ponovno zaraziti virusom nakon samo nekoliko mjeseci, navodi NYT mišljenje stručnjaka.

Američki list podsjeća da su liječnici dosad izvijestili o nekoliko slučajeva pretpostavljene ponovne infekcije u Sjedinjenim Državama i drugdje, ali niti jedan od tih slučajeva nije potvrđen strogim testiranjem. Poznato je da ljudi koji se oporavljaju od koronavirusa još tjednima otpuštaju virusne fragmente, što može uzrokovati da testovi pokažu pozitivan rezultat u nedostatku živog virusa.

No, hongkonški istraživači sekvencionirali su virus iz oba kruga infekcije i otkrili značajne razlike u karakteristikama dvaju virusa, sugerirajući da je pacijent zaražen po drugi put.

Njihov izvještaj zabrinuo je svjetsku akademsku i znanstvenu zajednicu, jer sugerira da imunitet na koronavirus kod nekih ljudi može trajati samo nekoliko mjeseci. Dakako, ta spoznaja ima značajne posljedice na stupanj efikasnosti cjepiva koja se razvijaju protiv virusa.

NYT navodi kako je poznato da koronavirusi prehlade uzrokuju ponovne infekcije za manje od godinu dana, ali ističe kako su se stručnjaci nadali da će se novi koronavirus ponašati poput svojih rođaka SARS-a i MERS-a, za koje se činilo da proizvode dugotrajniji, višegodišnji imunitet.

Prema istraživanju provedenom u Hong Kongu, u nekim slučajevima moguća je ponovna infekcija koronavirusom kod ljudi koji su već bili zaraženi, piše New York Times.

Američki list donosi izvještaj hongkonških znanstvenika o pacijentu kojem je dijagnosticiran drugi slučaj Covida-19 više od četiri mjeseca nakon prvog.

„Naizgled mlad i zdrav pacijent imao je drugi slučaj infekcije Covid-19, koji je dijagnosticiran četiri i pol mjeseca nakon prve epizode”, izjavili su u ponedjeljak istraživači Sveučilišta u Hong Kongu.

Zaraženi 33-godišnji muškarac prvi je put, u travnju ove godine, imao samo blage simptome, dok su simptomi u ovom drugom navratu potpuno izostali. Reinfekcija je otkrivena kad se vratio s putovanja u Španjolsku, rekli su istraživači, a virus koji su sekvencionirali umnogome je odgovarao soju koji je cirkulirao u Europi u srpnju i kolovozu.

„Naši rezultati dokazuju da je njegova druga infekcija uzrokovana novim virusom kojim je nedavno zaražen, a ne dugotrajnim djelovanjem prvog virusa”, izjavio je dr. Kelvin Kai-Wang To, klinički mikrobiolog sa Sveučilišta u Hong Kongu.
Budući da u svijetu postoje milijuni slučajeva koronavirusne zaraze, nije neočekivano da bi se neki, pa čak i nekoliko desetaka ljudi, mogli ponovno zaraziti virusom nakon samo nekoliko mjeseci, navodi NYT mišljenje stručnjaka.

Američki list podsjeća da su liječnici dosad izvijestili o nekoliko slučajeva pretpostavljene ponovne infekcije u Sjedinjenim Državama i drugdje, ali niti jedan od tih slučajeva nije potvrđen strogim testiranjem. Poznato je da ljudi koji se oporavljaju od koronavirusa još tjednima otpuštaju virusne fragmente, što može uzrokovati da testovi pokažu pozitivan rezultat u nedostatku živog virusa.

No, hongkonški istraživači sekvencionirali su virus iz oba kruga infekcije i otkrili značajne razlike u karakteristikama dvaju virusa, sugerirajući da je pacijent zaražen po drugi put.

Njihov izvještaj zabrinuo je svjetsku akademsku i znanstvenu zajednicu, jer sugerira da imunitet na koronavirus kod nekih ljudi može trajati samo nekoliko mjeseci. Dakako, ta spoznaja ima značajne posljedice na stupanj efikasnosti cjepiva koja se razvijaju protiv virusa.

NYT navodi kako je poznato da koronavirusi prehlade uzrokuju ponovne infekcije za manje od godinu dana, ali ističe kako su se stručnjaci nadali da će se novi koronavirus ponašati poput svojih rođaka SARS-a i MERS-a, za koje se činilo da proizvode dugotrajniji, višegodišnji imunitet.

Prema istraživanju provedenom u Hong Kongu, u nekim slučajevima moguća je ponovna infekcija koronavirusom kod ljudi koji su već bili zaraženi, piše New York Times.

Američki list donosi izvještaj hongkonških znanstvenika o pacijentu kojem je dijagnosticiran drugi slučaj Covida-19 više od četiri mjeseca nakon prvog.

„Naizgled mlad i zdrav pacijent imao je drugi slučaj infekcije Covid-19, koji je dijagnosticiran četiri i pol mjeseca nakon prve epizode”, izjavili su u ponedjeljak istraživači Sveučilišta u Hong Kongu.

Zaraženi 33-godišnji muškarac prvi je put, u travnju ove godine, imao samo blage simptome, dok su simptomi u ovom drugom navratu potpuno izostali. Reinfekcija je otkrivena kad se vratio s putovanja u Španjolsku, rekli su istraživači, a virus koji su...
