Muškarac iz Novog Meksika umro je od kuge, što je prvi slučaj smrti od ove bolesti u toj saveznoj državi od 2020. godine.
Umro je u bolnici, rekli su iz Odjela za zdravstvo Novog Meksika, no nisu otkrili njegovo ime, dob, rasu i etničku pripadnost.
Kuga se može liječiti uobičajenim antibioticima, a izgledi za potpuni oporavak veći su ako pacijent rano potraži medicinsku pomoć, prema američkom Centru za kontrolu i prevenciju zaraze (CDC).
Odjel za zdravstvo rekao je da se članovi osoblja obraćaju stanovnicima tog područja i da će provesti procjenu u zajednici kako bi utvrdili rizik obolijevanja od kuge.
Posljednji slučaj kuge kod ljudi u Novom Meksiku zabilježen je kod stanovnika okruga Torrance 2021. Godinu ranije su zabilježena četiri slučaja obolijevanja kod ljudi, uključujući jedan u okrugu Santa Fe, dva u okrugu Torrance i smrtni slučaj u okrugu Rio Arriba.
"Iako se kuga često povezuje s ubijanjem milijuna Europljana tijekom srednjeg vijeka, to nije iskorijenjena bolest", upozorila je državna veterinarka za javno zdravstvo Erin Phipps za ABC, prenosi Dnevnik.hr.
"Ovo je ista bakterija koja je uzrokovala crnu smrt koja je desetkovala europsku populaciju, i doista je još uvijek prisutna. Još uvijek cirkulira u današnje vrijeme", dodala je.
Kuga je bolest koju uzrokuje bakterija Yersinia pestis. Obično se javlja u zapadnom dijelu SAD-a, osobito u ruralnim područjima Arizone, Colorada, Novog Meksika i Utaha.
Kako se ljudi mogu zaraziti kugom?
Kuga se obično javlja kod divljih glodavaca, uključujući štakore, vjeverice, miševe, prerijske pse...
Ljudi se mogu zaraziti ako ih ugrize buha glodavaca koja nosi bakteriju ili ako dođu u izravan kontakt sa životinjom zaraženom kugom, što može uključivati i kućne ljubimce.
Postoje tri vrste kuge: bubonska kuga, povezana s povećanim limfnim čvorovima zvanim buboni; septikemijska kuga, koja se javlja kada bakterija uđe u krvotok; i plućna kuga, kada infekcija uđe u pluća. Ostali simptomi obično uključuju glavobolju, groznicu, zimicu i slabost, piše Dnevnik.hr.
"Bubonska kuga ima povećane limfne čvorove, ali inače su simptomi kuge slični kao kod nekoliko drugih bolesti. I to je izazov za liječnike da dijagnosticiraju kugu", kazala je Phipps i dodala: ‘‘Prije antibiotika, dvije trećine ljudi koji su se zarazili kugom umrlo je od te bolesti. Trenutačno oko 10 posto ljudi umire od kuge.‘‘

Muškarac iz Novog Meksika umro je od kuge, što je prvi slučaj smrti od ove bolesti u toj saveznoj državi od 2020. godine.
Umro je u bolnici, rekli su iz Odjela za zdravstvo Novog Meksika, no nisu otkrili njegovo ime, dob, rasu i etničku pripadnost.
Kuga se može liječiti uobičajenim antibioticima, a izgledi za potpuni oporavak veći su ako pacijent rano potraži medicinsku pomoć, prema američkom Centru za kontrolu i prevenciju zaraze (CDC).
Odjel za zdravstvo rekao je da se članovi osoblja obraćaju stanovnicima tog područja i da će provesti procjenu u zajednici kako bi utvrdili rizik obolijevanja od kuge.
Posljednji slučaj kuge kod ljudi u Novom Meksiku zabilježen je kod stanovnika okruga Torrance 2021. Godinu ranije su zabilježena četiri slučaja obolijevanja kod ljudi, uključujući jedan u okrugu Santa Fe, dva u okrugu Torrance i smrtni slučaj u okrugu Rio Arriba.
"Iako se kuga često povezuje s ubijanjem milijuna Europljana tijekom srednjeg vijeka, to nije iskorijenjena bolest", upozorila je državna veterinarka za javno zdravstvo Erin Phipps za ABC, prenosi Dnevnik.hr.
"Ovo je ista bakterija koja je uzrokovala crnu smrt koja je desetkovala europsku populaciju, i doista je još uvijek prisutna. Još uvijek cirkulira u današnje vrijeme", dodala je.
Kuga je bolest koju uzrokuje bakterija Yersinia pestis. Obično se javlja u zapadnom dijelu SAD-a, osobito u ruralnim područjima Arizone, Colorada, Novog Meksika i Utaha.
Kako se ljudi mogu zaraziti kugom?
Kuga se obično javlja kod divljih glodavaca, uključujući štakore, vjeverice, miševe, prerijske pse...
Ljudi se mogu zaraziti ako ih ugrize buha glodavaca koja nosi bakteriju ili ako dođu u izravan kontakt sa životinjom zaraženom kugom, što može uključivati i kućne ljubimce.
Postoje tri vrste kuge: bubonska kuga, povezana s povećanim limfnim čvorovima zvanim buboni; septikemijska kuga, koja se javlja kada bakterija uđe u krvotok; i plućna kuga, kada infekcija uđe u pluća. Ostali simptomi obično uključuju glavobolju, groznicu, zimicu i slabost, piše Dnevnik.hr.
"Bubonska kuga ima povećane limfne čvorove, ali inače su simptomi kuge slični kao kod nekoliko drugih bolesti. I to je izazov za liječnike da dijagnosticiraju kugu", kazala je Phipps i dodala: ‘‘Prije antibiotika, dvije trećine ljudi koji su se zarazili kugom umrlo je od te bolesti. Trenutačno oko 10 posto ljudi umire od kuge.‘‘
