Imanje obitelji Bush nalazi se na Atlantiku, u blizini Kennebunkporta, dva sata vožnje automobilom od Bostona. Dok naš snimateljski tim u dnevnoj sobi s puno svjetla postavlja kamere i osvjetljenje za intervju, George W. Bush se iznenada pojavljuje, sat vremena prije dogovorenog sastanka: u kratkim hlačama i svjetlozelenoj majici prekrivenoj mrljama od boje s ostatkom cigare u kutu usana i iPad-om u ruci. "Rado ću to uraditi za moju dragu Angelu", kaže on.

A onda, na vrlo privlačan i srdačan način, govori prvo o Angeli Merkel, a zatim o svom slikarstvu; pokazuje svoje slike na iPadu, kaže da rad za slikarskim stalkom strukturira njegov dan i da mu je kist postao sredstvo za izražavanje politike od kada je napustio Bijelu kuću, piše dw.com.

George W. Bush se drži podalje od političke scene. Kad 43. predsjednik SAD-a daje intervjue, zapravo se raspravlja samo o njegovoj umjetnosti. Ali pravi iznimku za naš dokumentarac o Angeli Merkel, dočekuje nas u svojoj kući i izdvaja za nas puno vremena. "Merkel je u svoju najvažniju - kancelarsku funkciju - unijela visoku razinu i dostojanstvo. Donijela je vrlo teške odluke o tome što je najbolje za Njemačku i uvijek je ostala vjerna svojim načelima", kaže on. "Ona je suosjećajan vođa, žena koja se ne boji voditi."

Čvrsta poput stijene

Kao i za mnoge Amerikance Angela Merkel je i za njega svojevrsni personificirani „american dream" - „američki san". Žena koja je odrasla u komunističkoj neslobodi dospjela je na vrh slobodnog svijeta. I to ne bilo gdje, već u Njemačkoj, zemlji koju je SAD, prema američkom rezonu, dva puta oslobađao od diktature: prvo u cjelini od nacističkog režima, a zatim su njezin istočni dio izvukli „iz kandži Kremlja".

Tijekom četiri godine, posebno predsjednikovanja Donalda Trumpa, Merkel se u liberalnoj Americi smatrala "lidericom slobodnog svijeta"("the leader of the free world"), što je pozicija koja se do tada odnosila samo na američke predsjednike. U vrludanjima i zabludama unutar EU-a, ali i pojedinačnih zemalja-članica smatrana je svjetionikom u oluji, pouzdanom konstantom u svijetu koji se čini sve bržim i u kojem su problemi sve veći, a moguća rješenja sve kompliciranija.

"Angeli Merkel je uspjelo politički preživjeti u teškom okruženju više od osam godina. To je prilično nevjerojatno kad razmislite", kaže Bush. "I to pokazuje povjerenje koje su joj iskazali njemački birači", rekao je bivši američki predsjednik.

Kada se novoizabrana kancelarka Merkel prvi put rukovala s Georgom W. Bushom 2006. godine, odnosi između Njemačke i SAD-a su bili zahladili nakon što je Gerhard Schröder, koji je prije Merkelove bio kancelar, na kraju svog mandata žestoko kritizirao rat, koji je Bush poveo u Iraku. Mnogi su u tome vidjeli čistu predizbornu taktiku. Činjenica da se odnos s SAD-om brzo popravio imala je puno veze s okolnošću da su se on i Merkel odlično slagali od samog početka, kaže George W. Bush.

Razumijevanje za razlike u politici prema Rusiji

Kao i trenutni američki predsjednik Joe Biden, i Bush kritizira izgradnju Sjevernog toka 2, jer plinovod povećava ovisnost Njemačke od Rusije i komplicira situaciju za Ukrajinu. Bush međutim kaže da može razumjeti da Angela Merkel vodi drugačiju politiku prema Putinu i Rusiji od SAD-a i da svaka zemlja tu mora pronaći svoj vlastiti put.

Na pitanje o politici useljavanja Angele Merkel on pokazuje veliko razumijevanje. "Moja prva reakcija bila je da je ona žena velikog srca. Siguran sam da ju je motiviralo ljudsko suosjećanje. I, znate, to je za nju očito bila teška politička odluka, ali ona je preuzela odgovornost."

Nezadovoljan oštrom imigracijskom politikom Trumpove administracije, Bush je nedavno objavio knjigu s portretima imigranata, uključujući se na svoj način u politički diskurs.

Uzor za djevojke

Bush, otac dvije kćeri, odlazeću njemačku kancelarku vidi kao uzor, posebno za djevojke: "Mnogo je njih koji gledaju u Angelu Merkel i kažu: i ja bih jednog dana mogla doći na odgovornu i moćnu poziciju."

Angela Merkel sada posljednji put dolazi u posjet Washingtonu kao kancelarka. Stoga je sastanak s novim predsjednikom Bidenom prvi i oproštajni posjet u isto vrijeme. Politička Amerika polako postaje svjesna da se jedna era, veća i od same Angele Merkel, bliži kraju kao i da se ono što se do sada podrazumijevalo pod transatlantskim odnosima mora iznova definirati i to ne samo zato što zbog zemalja poput Kine ili Indije druge velike sile dobivaju sve važniju ulogu na svjetskoj političkoj sceni.

Angela Merkel je bila posljednja njemačka kancelarka koja je imala posla s Amerikom, za koju su bliski odnosi s Njemačkom i Europom bili državni rezon i nešto što se samo po sebi podrazumijeva.

George W. Bush se drži podalje od političke scene. Kad 43. predsjednik SAD-a daje intervjue, zapravo se raspravlja samo o njegovoj umjetnosti. Ali pravi iznimku za naš dokumentarac o Angeli Merkel, dočekuje nas u svojoj kući i izdvaja za nas puno vremena. "Merkel je u svoju najvažniju - kancelarsku funkciju - unijela visoku razinu i dostojanstvo. Donijela je vrlo teške odluke o tome što je najbolje za Njemačku i uvijek je ostala vjerna svojim načelima", kaže on. "Ona je suosjećajan vođa, žena koja se ne boji voditi."

Čvrsta poput stijene

Kao i za mnoge Amerikance Angela Merkel je i za njega svojevrsni personificirani „american dream" - „američki san". Žena koja je odrasla u komunističkoj neslobodi dospjela je na vrh slobodnog svijeta. I to ne bilo gdje, već u Njemačkoj, zemlji koju je SAD, prema američkom rezonu, dva puta oslobađao od diktature: prvo u cjelini od nacističkog režima, a zatim su njezin istočni dio izvukli „iz kandži Kremlja".

Tijekom četiri godine, posebno predsjednikovanja Donalda Trumpa, Merkel se u liberalnoj Americi smatrala "lidericom slobodnog svijeta"("the leader of the free world"), što je pozicija koja se do tada odnosila samo na američke predsjednike. U vrludanjima i zabludama unutar EU-a, ali i pojedinačnih zemalja-članica smatrana je svjetionikom u oluji, pouzdanom konstantom u svijetu koji se čini sve bržim i u kojem su problemi sve veći, a moguća rješenja sve kompliciranija.

"Angeli Merkel je uspjelo politički preživjeti u teškom okruženju više od osam godina. To je prilično nevjerojatno kad razmislite", kaže Bush. "I to pokazuje povjerenje koje su joj iskazali njemački birači", rekao je bivši američki predsjednik.

Kada se novoizabrana kancelarka Merkel prvi put rukovala s Georgom W. Bushom 2006. godine, odnosi između Njemačke i SAD-a su bili zahladili nakon što je Gerhard Schröder, koji je prije Merkelove bio kancelar, na kraju svog mandata žestoko kritizirao rat, koji je Bush poveo u Iraku. Mnogi su u tome vidjeli čistu predizbornu taktiku. Činjenica da se odnos s SAD-om brzo popravio imala je puno veze s okolnošću da su se on i Merkel odlično slagali od samog početka, kaže George W. Bush.

Razumijevanje za razlike u politici prema Rusiji

Kao i trenutni američki predsjednik Joe Biden, i Bush kritizira izgradnju Sjevernog toka 2, jer plinovod povećava ovisnost Njemačke od Rusije i komplicira situaciju za Ukrajinu. Bush međutim kaže da može razumjeti da Angela Merkel vodi drugačiju politiku prema Putinu i Rusiji od SAD-a i da svaka zemlja tu mora pronaći svoj vlastiti put.

Na pitanje o politici useljavanja Angele Merkel on pokazuje veliko razumijevanje. "Moja prva reakcija bila je da je ona žena velikog srca. Siguran sam da ju je motiviralo ljudsko suosjećanje. I, znate, to je za nju očito bila teška politička odluka, ali ona je preuzela odgovornost."

Nezadovoljan oštrom imigracijskom politikom Trumpove administracije, Bush je nedavno objavio knjigu s portretima imigranata, uključujući se na svoj način u politički diskurs.

Uzor za djevojke

Bush, otac dvije kćeri, odlazeću njemačku kancelarku vidi kao uzor, posebno za djevojke: "Mnogo je njih koji gledaju u Angelu Merkel i kažu: i ja bih jednog dana mogla doći na odgovornu i moćnu poziciju."

Angela Merkel sada posljednji put dolazi u posjet Washingtonu kao kancelarka. Stoga je sastanak s novim predsjednikom Bidenom prvi i oproštajni posjet u isto vrijeme. Politička Amerika polako postaje svjesna da se jedna era, veća i od same Angele Merkel, bliži kraju kao i da se ono što se do sada podrazumijevalo pod transatlantskim odnosima mora iznova definirati i to ne samo zato što zbog zemalja poput Kine ili Indije druge velike sile dobivaju sve važniju ulogu na svjetskoj političkoj sceni.

Angela Merkel je bila posljednja njemačka kancelarka koja je imala posla s Amerikom, za koju su bliski odnosi s Njemačkom i Europom bili državni rezon i nešto što se samo po sebi podrazumijeva.

Imanje obitelji Bush nalazi se na Atlantiku, u blizini Kennebunkporta, dva sata vožnje automobilom od Bostona. Dok naš snimateljski tim u dnevnoj sobi s puno svjetla postavlja kamere i osvjetljenje za intervju, George W. Bush se iznenada pojavljuje, sat vremena prije dogovorenog sastanka: u kratkim hlačama i svjetlozelenoj majici prekrivenoj mrljama od boje s ostatkom cigare u kutu usana i iPad-om u ruci. "Rado ću to uraditi za moju dragu Angelu", kaže on.

A onda, na vrlo privlačan i srdačan način, govori prvo o Angeli Merkel, a zatim o svom slikarstvu; pokazuje svoje slike na iPadu, kaže da rad za slikarskim stalkom strukturira njegov dan i da mu je kist postao sredstvo za izražavanje politike od kada je napustio Bijelu kuću, piše dw.com.
