Živim bićima, za osnovne životne potrebe, u suštini treba zrak i voda, no najnovija istraživanja u Americi otkrila su živo stvorenje kojem kisik uopće ne treba. Riječ je o parazitu koji ne treba kisik da bi stvarao energiju, a razvio se u tkivu lososa.

Viši znanstveni suradnik s odjela za mikrobiologiju Sveučilišta u Oregonu, Stephen Atkinson, stvar je pojednostavnio izjavom 'manje je zbilja ponekad više'. 

Atkinson je u časopisu PNAS objavio članak o revolucionarnom organizmu Henneguya salminicola koji ima manje od deset stanica.

"Kada razmišljamo o 'životinjama', zamišljamo višestanična stvorenja koja trebaju kisik da bi preživjela, za razliku od mnogih jednostaničnih organizama kao što su protisti i bakterije. Henneguya salminicola je miksozojska cnidaria, nešto između meduze i koralja. Živi unutar lososa i 'krade' već spremne nutrijente iz njega umjesto da direktno koristi kisik", napisao je Atkinson. 

Atkinson zaključuje da su ovakva otkrića njegovog tima proširila definiciju živih bića.

Parazit živi u područjima niske razine kisika, pa uopće ne treba disati

Ovaj zanimljivi organizam, unutar lososa stvara bijele ćelije, koje ribi ne smetaju, a ne mogu naštetiti ni ljudima. Interesantno je da stanje unutar lososa obuhvaća kisikom siromašno područje, zbog čega parazit preživljava 'dišući' bez spomenutog elementa. Parazit funkcionira tako da u potpunosti ispusti svoj genom mitohondrija, koji inače služi za pretvaranje hrane u energiju kod većine organizama.

"Gubeći genom, parazit štedi energiju i ne mora ga kopirati za stvari koje mu više nisu potrebne", kaže Atkinson. 

Ovakav tip životinje uglavnom postavlja više pitanja, no što nudi odgovora. Stručnjaci stoga ne mogu sa sigurnošću potvrditi na što se točno parazit oslanja umjesto kisika, no Atkinson pretpostavlja da organizam apsorbira molekule svog domaćina koji je već proizveo energiju.

Atkinoson i njegov tim smatraju da ovaj oblik organizma definitivno nije jedino živo biće koje može preživjeti bez kisika, a vjeruju da će otkriti i još mnoge zanimljive forme i načine postojanja.

Živim bićima, za osnovne životne potrebe, u suštini treba zrak i voda, no najnovija istraživanja u Americi otkrila su živo stvorenje kojem kisik uopće ne treba. Riječ je o parazitu koji ne treba kisik da bi stvarao energiju, a razvio se u tkivu lososa.

Viši znanstveni suradnik s odjela za mikrobiologiju Sveučilišta u Oregonu, Stephen Atkinson, stvar je pojednostavnio izjavom 'manje je zbilja ponekad više'. 

Atkinson je u časopisu PNAS objavio članak o revolucionarnom organizmu Henneguya salminicola koji ima manje od deset stanica.

"Kada razmišljamo o 'životinjama', zamišljamo višestanična stvorenja koja trebaju kisik da bi preživjela, za razliku od mnogih jednostaničnih organizama kao što su protisti i bakterije. Henneguya salminicola je miksozojska cnidaria, nešto između meduze i koralja. Živi unutar lososa i 'krade' već spremne nutrijente iz njega umjesto da direktno koristi kisik", napisao je Atkinson. 

Atkinson zaključuje da su ovakva otkrića njegovog tima proširila definiciju živih bića.

Parazit živi u područjima niske razine kisika, pa uopće ne treba disati

Ovaj zanimljivi organizam, unutar lososa stvara bijele ćelije, koje ribi ne smetaju, a ne mogu naštetiti ni ljudima. Interesantno je da stanje unutar lososa obuhvaća kisikom siromašno područje, zbog čega parazit preživljava 'dišući' bez spomenutog elementa. Parazit funkcionira tako da u potpunosti ispusti svoj genom mitohondrija, koji inače služi za pretvaranje hrane u energiju kod većine organizama.

"Gubeći genom, parazit štedi energiju i ne mora ga kopirati za stvari koje mu više nisu potrebne", kaže Atkinson. 

Ovakav tip životinje uglavnom postavlja više pitanja, no što nudi odgovora. Stručnjaci stoga ne mogu sa sigurnošću potvrditi na što se točno parazit oslanja umjesto kisika, no Atkinson pretpostavlja da organizam apsorbira molekule svog domaćina koji je već proizveo energiju.

Atkinoson i njegov tim smatraju da ovaj oblik organizma definitivno nije jedino živo biće koje može preživjeti bez kisika, a vjeruju da će otkriti i još mnoge zanimljive forme i načine postojanja.
