S olujom nazvanom Wilfred, koja se nad istočnim Atlantikom razvila 18. rujna, Svjetska meteorološka organizacija (WMO) potrošila je zadnje od imena koja su, kao i svake godine, prema osobnim imenima s početnim slovima od A do W, i ove godine unaprijed pripremljena za atlantsku sezonu oluja koja obično traje od lipnja do studenoga, a odnosi se na područje Karipskog mora, Meksičkog zaljeva i sjevernog dijela Atlantika.

Sezona se ispostavila rekordnom: Wilfred je, dakle, 21. po redu, jer se imena biraju prema engleskoj abecedi koja ima 26 slova, no slova Q, U, X, Y i Z se ne koriste jer je teško pronaći dobro poznata imena koja njima počinju (za razliku od nekih drugih regija za koje se koriste i "izbačena" slova).

Meteorolozi su se stoga ove godine morali okrenuli grčkom alfabetu - a i tu su već "potrošena" imena i Alfa i Beta.

Suptropska oluja Alfa bila je vrlo neobična suptropska ciklona, prva takva zabilježena pojava koja je pogodila Portugal 18. rujna, u isto vrijeme kad je Wilfred stigao do Zelenortskih otoka pred zapadnoafričkom obalom.

Tropska oluja Beta početkom ovoga tjedna stigla je do obale američke države Teksas u Meksičkom zaljevu kao vrlo spora oluja koja donosi dugotrajne kiše i poplave na području i Teksasa i Louisiane.

Gama i Eta

Iduća oluja zvat će se Gama - predviđaju je početkom listopada - a rekord bi oborila sedma oluja po grčkom alfabetu, Eta.

Potreba za grčkim alfabetom - i to imenima čak šest slova za šest oluja - stvorila se na Atlantiku samo jednom ranije, tijekom katastrofalne sezone 2005. godine, kad je veliki atlantski uragan pete kategorije, nazvan Katrina, u kolovozu opustošio područje američke savezne države Louisiane.

Katrina je za sobom ostavila 1800 mrtvih te štetu procijenjenu na 125 milijardi dolara, posebno u gradu New Orleansu i okolnim područjima.

Te teške i razorne sezone 2005. godine, oluja nazvana po zadnjem korištenom slovu abecede - Wilma - imenovana je 17. listopada, što je punih mjesec dana kasnije nego što je slovo W - oluja Wilfred - dosegnuto ove godine. Drugim riječima, ova bi sezona mogla oboriti rekord po broju oluja.

Pod pretpostavkom da je lakše pamtiti imena nego brojeve i tehničke izraze, praksa imenovanja oluja, odnosno tropskih ciklona, započela je kako bi se pomoglo njihovu brzom prepoznavanju u porukama upozorenja, te kako bi se medijima olakšalo izvještavanje.

Iskustvo je pokazalo da je upotreba kratkih, prepoznatljivih imena u pisanoj i govornoj komunikaciji brža i manje podložna pogreškama od starijih metoda identifikacije - za brzu komunikaciju zapetljanih podataka o zemljopisnim širinama i dužinama.

Te su prednosti osobito važne u razmjeni detaljnih informacija između stotina raštrkanih postaja, obalnih baza i brodova na moru.

Antjeov uragan

U početku su oluje nazivane proizvoljno, navodi WMO.

Atlantska oluja, koja je otkinula jarbol broda po imenu Antje, postala je poznata kao Antjeov uragan. Sredinom 20. stoljeća započela je praksa korištenja ženskih imena za oluje, a tražeći organiziraniji i učinkovitiji sustav imenovanja, meteorolozi su kasnije odlučili oluje identificirati koristeći imena s popisa poredanog po abecedi, pa je oluja s imenom koje započinje slovom A prva koja se dogodila u godini.

Na popise, koje izrađuje i ažurira međunarodni odbor Svjetske meteorološke organizacije (imena predlažu nacionalne meteorološke i hidrološke službe određene regije, a odobravaju ih odgovarajuća regionalna tijela za tropsku ciklonu na svojim godišnjim ili dvogodišnjim zasjedanjima) od 1979. uvode se i sa ženskima izmjenjuju i muška imena.

Rotira se šest popisa, pa će se popis iz ove ponovno koristiti 2026. godine. Ne znači, ipak, da će popisi biti identični - ako se, naime, dogodila oluja toliko smrtonosna ili oluja koja je učinila toliku materijalnu štetu da bi buduća upotreba njezina imena bila neprimjerena, izazivala neugodna sjećanja i usporedbe, na godišnjem sastanku Odbora WMO-a za tropske ciklone raspravi se i to: sporno ime briše se s popisa i odabire drugo, zamjensko.

Primjeri zloglasnih imena su Mangkhut (Filipini, 2018.), Irma i Maria (Karibi, 2017.), Haiyan (Filipini, 2013.), Sandy (SAD, 2012.), Katrina (SAD, 2005.), Mitch (Honduras, 1998.) i Tracy (Darwin, 1974.) .

Klupa za rezerve

Ove sezone nad Atlantikom je bilo živo: formiralo se toliko ciklona da je potrošeno 21 muško i žensko ime, koliko ih je bilo na raspolaganju: Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky i Wilfred. S 'klupe za rezerve' uskočila su imena grčkih slova, od kojih su već potrošeni Alfa i Beta.

A sezona uragana nije ni blizu kraja.

Obaranje rekorda

 

Grčka abeceda ima 24 slova; u sezoni uragana na Atlantiku 2005. potrošeno je prvih šest (alfa, beta, gama, delta, epsilon, zeta).

Sad treba vidjeti hoće li ova sezona "razmijeniti" i sedmo slovo, eta, i time već oboriti rekord, ili će možda nastaviti i dalje te rekord "učvrstiti" uzimanjem idućih slova - teta, jota, kapa, lambda...

S olujom nazvanom Wilfred, koja se nad istočnim Atlantikom razvila 18. rujna, Svjetska meteorološka organizacija (WMO) potrošila je zadnje od imena koja su, kao i svake godine, prema osobnim imenima s početnim slovima od A do W, i ove godine unaprijed pripremljena za atlantsku sezonu oluja koja obično traje od lipnja do studenoga, a odnosi se na područje Karipskog mora, Meksičkog zaljeva i sjevernog dijela Atlantika.

Sezona se ispostavila rekordnom: Wilfred je, dakle, 21. po redu, jer se imena biraju prema engleskoj abecedi koja ima 26 slova, no slova Q, U, X, Y i Z se ne koriste jer je teško pronaći dobro poznata imena koja njima počinju (za razliku od nekih drugih regija za koje se koriste i "izbačena" slova).

Meteorolozi su se stoga ove godine morali okrenuli grčkom alfabetu - a i tu su već "potrošena" imena i Alfa i Beta.

Suptropska oluja Alfa bila je vrlo neobična suptropska ciklona, prva takva zabilježena pojava koja je pogodila Portugal 18. rujna, u isto vrijeme kad je Wilfred stigao do Zelenortskih otoka pred zapadnoafričkom obalom.

Tropska oluja Beta početkom ovoga tjedna stigla je do obale američke države Teksas u Meksičkom zaljevu kao vrlo spora oluja koja donosi dugotrajne kiše i poplave na području i Teksasa i Louisiane.

Gama i Eta

Iduća oluja zvat će se Gama - predviđaju je početkom listopada - a rekord bi oborila sedma oluja po grčkom alfabetu, Eta.

Potreba za grčkim alfabetom - i to imenima čak šest slova za šest oluja - stvorila se na Atlantiku samo jednom ranije, tijekom katastrofalne sezone 2005. godine, kad je veliki atlantski uragan pete kategorije, nazvan Katrina, u kolovozu opustošio područje američke savezne države Louisiane.

Katrina je za sobom ostavila 1800 mrtvih te štetu procijenjenu na 125 milijardi dolara, posebno u gradu New Orleansu i okolnim područjima.

Te teške i razorne sezone 2005. godine, oluja nazvana po zadnjem korištenom slovu abecede - Wilma - imenovana je 17. listopada, što je punih mjesec dana kasnije nego što je slovo W - oluja Wilfred - dosegnuto ove godine. Drugim riječima, ova bi sezona mogla oboriti rekord po broju oluja.

Pod pretpostavkom da je lakše pamtiti imena nego brojeve i tehničke izraze, praksa imenovanja oluja, odnosno tropskih ciklona, započela je kako bi se pomoglo njihovu brzom prepoznavanju u porukama upozorenja, te kako bi se medijima olakšalo izvještavanje.

Iskustvo je pokazalo da je upotreba kratkih, prepoznatljivih imena u pisanoj i govornoj komunikaciji brža i manje podložna pogreškama od starijih metoda identifikacije - za brzu komunikaciju zapetljanih podataka o zemljopisnim širinama i dužinama.

Te su prednosti osobito važne u razmjeni detaljnih informacija između stotina raštrkanih postaja, obalnih baza i brodova na moru.

Antjeov uragan

U početku su oluje nazivane proizvoljno, navodi WMO.

Atlantska oluja, koja je otkinula jarbol broda po imenu Antje, postala je poznata kao Antjeov uragan. Sredinom 20. stoljeća započela je praksa korištenja ženskih imena za oluje, a tražeći organiziraniji i učinkovitiji sustav imenovanja, meteorolozi su kasnije odlučili oluje identificirati koristeći imena s popisa poredanog po abecedi, pa je oluja s imenom koje započinje slovom A prva koja se dogodila u godini.

Na popise, koje izrađuje i ažurira međunarodni odbor Svjetske meteorološke organizacije (imena predlažu nacionalne meteorološke i hidrološke službe određene regije, a odobravaju ih odgovarajuća regionalna tijela za tropsku ciklonu na svojim godišnjim ili dvogodišnjim zasjedanjima) od 1979. uvode se i sa ženskima izmjenjuju i muška imena.

Rotira se šest popisa, pa će se popis iz ove ponovno koristiti 2026. godine. Ne znači, ipak, da će popisi biti identični - ako se, naime, dogodila oluja toliko smrtonosna ili oluja koja je učinila toliku materijalnu štetu da bi buduća upotreba njezina imena bila neprimjerena, izazivala neugodna sjećanja i usporedbe, na godišnjem sastanku Odbora WMO-a za tropske ciklone raspravi se i to: sporno ime briše se s popisa i odabire drugo, zamjensko.

Primjeri zloglasnih imena su Mangkhut (Filipini, 2018.), Irma i Maria (Karibi, 2017.), Haiyan (Filipini, 2013.), Sandy (SAD, 2012.), Katrina (SAD, 2005.), Mitch (Honduras, 1998.) i Tracy (Darwin, 1974.) .

Klupa za rezerve

Ove sezone nad Atlantikom je bilo živo: formiralo se toliko ciklona da je potrošeno 21 muško i žensko ime, koliko ih je bilo na raspolaganju: Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gonzalo, Hanna, Isaias, Josephine, Kyle, Laura, Marco, Nana, Omar, Paulette, Rene, Sally, Teddy, Vicky i Wilfred. S 'klupe za rezerve' uskočila su imena grčkih slova, od kojih su već potrošeni Alfa i Beta.

A sezona uragana nije ni blizu kraja.

Obaranje rekorda

 

Grčka abeceda ima 24 slova; u sezoni uragana na Atlantiku 2005. potrošeno je prvih šest (alfa, beta, gama, delta, epsilon, zeta).

Sad treba vidjeti hoće li ova sezona "razmijeniti" i sedmo slovo, eta, i time već oboriti rekord, ili će možda nastaviti i dalje te rekord "učvrstiti" uzimanjem idućih slova - teta, jota, kapa, lambda...

S olujom nazvanom Wilfred, koja se nad istočnim Atlantikom razvila 18. rujna, Svjetska meteorološka organizacija (WMO) potrošila je zadnje od imena koja su, kao i svake godine, prema osobnim imenima s početnim slovima od A do W, i ove godine unaprijed pripremljena za atlantsku sezonu oluja koja obično traje od lipnja do studenoga, a odnosi se na područje Karipskog mora, Meksičkog zaljeva i sjevernog dijela Atlantika.

Sezona se ispostavila rekordnom: Wilfred je, dakle, 21. po redu, jer se imena biraju prema engleskoj abecedi koja ima 26 slova, no slova Q, U, X, Y i Z se ne koriste jer je teško pronaći dobro poznata imena koja njima počinju (za razliku od nekih drugih regija za koje se koriste i "izbačena" slova).

Meteorolozi su se stoga ove godine morali okrenuli grčkom...
