One gmižu, množe se i spavaju - i stvaraju nesnosnu glavobolju planerima velikog željezničkog projekta na jugoistoku Njemačke.
Početak gradnje brze željeznice u blizini Stuttgarta zaustavljen je zbog neobičnog razloga: tisuća livadnih gušterica koje mjesto gdje bi trebao biti veliki željeznički tunel smatraju svojim domom.
A troškovi premještanja tih zakonom zaštićenih životinja takvi su da se projektantima ledi krv u žilama.
Gmazovi su otkriveni tijekom pregleda planirane trase između Wendlingena i Ulma, rekao je glasnogovornik projekta Joerg Hamann.
Iako su zeleno svjetlo nadležnih vlasti dobili prije više od godine dana, graditelji su morali zaustaviti projekt dok ne riješe problem s gušterima koji su na popisu ugroženih vrsta.
"Htjeli smo početi s radovima na proljeće, ali već smo izgubili tri, četiri mjeseca", rekao je Hamann.
Problem je u tome što se gušteri mogu premještati samo u određeno doba godine, a nikako ne tijekom hibernacije i razdoblja razmnožavanja.
"Nadamo se da će nam vlasti dopustiti da najkasnije u kolovozu krenemo s premještanjem", rekao je Hamann. U suprotnom, početak gradnje mogao bi biti pomaknut do idućeg proljeća.
"Nevjerojatno je teško naći drugo stanište za njih", kaže Manfred Leher, čelnik željezničkog projekta "Stuttgart 21".
Koliki je trošak premještaja jednog guštera? Oko 4000 eura. A procjenjuje se da će trebati premjestiti oko 10.000 zidnih i livadnih gušterica.
Aktivisti za zaštitu životinja nemaju sućuti za probleme građevinara. "Imam dojam da im gušterice služe za skretanje pozornosti s drugih problema koji su zapravo uzrokovali odgode", rekao je regionalni čelnik skupine "Prijatelji Zemlje" Gerhard Pfeifer.
Dvije su opcije za rješenje problema. Prva, skuplja, fizički je premještaj gušterica, a druga uključuje postavljanje plastične podloge kako bi im područje postalo neprivlačno pa bi eventualno same otišle.
"Cijena premještaja gušterica uopće nije visoka u usporedbi s cijenom tunela", kaže Pfeiffer.
Zidne gušterice nisu ugrožena vrsta jer je njihova populacija stabilna, ali to nije slučaj s livadnim guštericama.
"One su na popisu ugroženih vrsta i pripadaju u istu kategoriju kao, primjerice, mrki medvjed ili suri orao", naglašava Pfeifer. "A što bi bilo da su našli koloniju zaštićenih medvjeda u Wendligenu?", zapitao je.

One gmižu, množe se i spavaju - i stvaraju nesnosnu glavobolju planerima velikog željezničkog projekta na jugoistoku Njemačke.
Početak gradnje brze željeznice u blizini Stuttgarta zaustavljen je zbog neobičnog razloga: tisuća livadnih gušterica koje mjesto gdje bi trebao biti veliki željeznički tunel smatraju svojim domom.
A troškovi premještanja tih zakonom zaštićenih životinja takvi su da se projektantima ledi krv u žilama.
Gmazovi su otkriveni tijekom pregleda planirane trase između Wendlingena i Ulma, rekao je glasnogovornik projekta Joerg Hamann.
Iako su zeleno svjetlo nadležnih vlasti dobili prije više od godine dana, graditelji su morali zaustaviti projekt dok ne riješe problem s gušterima koji su na popisu ugroženih vrsta.
"Htjeli smo početi s radovima na proljeće, ali već smo izgubili tri, četiri mjeseca", rekao je Hamann.
Problem je u tome što se gušteri mogu premještati samo u određeno doba godine, a nikako ne tijekom hibernacije i razdoblja razmnožavanja.
"Nadamo se da će nam vlasti dopustiti da najkasnije u kolovozu krenemo s premještanjem", rekao je Hamann. U suprotnom, početak gradnje mogao bi biti pomaknut do idućeg proljeća.
"Nevjerojatno je teško naći drugo stanište za njih", kaže Manfred Leher, čelnik željezničkog projekta "Stuttgart 21".
Koliki je trošak premještaja jednog guštera? Oko 4000 eura. A procjenjuje se da će trebati premjestiti oko 10.000 zidnih i livadnih gušterica.
Aktivisti za zaštitu životinja nemaju sućuti za probleme građevinara. "Imam dojam da im gušterice služe za skretanje pozornosti s drugih problema koji su zapravo uzrokovali odgode", rekao je regionalni čelnik skupine "Prijatelji Zemlje" Gerhard Pfeifer.
Dvije su opcije za rješenje problema. Prva, skuplja, fizički je premještaj gušterica, a druga uključuje postavljanje plastične podloge kako bi im područje postalo neprivlačno pa bi eventualno same otišle.
"Cijena premještaja gušterica uopće nije visoka u usporedbi s cijenom tunela", kaže Pfeiffer.
Zidne gušterice nisu ugrožena vrsta jer je njihova populacija stabilna, ali to nije slučaj s livadnim guštericama.
"One su na popisu ugroženih vrsta i pripadaju u istu kategoriju kao, primjerice, mrki medvjed ili suri orao", naglašava Pfeifer. "A što bi bilo da su našli koloniju zaštićenih medvjeda u Wendligenu?", zapitao je.
