Elizabeth Kopple je kreativna spisateljica koja istražuje život kroz prizmu ožalošćene majke. Nadahnjuje čitatelje koji su pretrpjeli gubitak djeteta svojim iskustvima s pokojnim sinom Henryjem.

Ona i njezin suprug žive na relaciji između Santa Monice u Kaliforniji i Washingtona, D.C., gdje njihov najmlađi sin pohađa koledž, a njihov gubitak opisala je za Huffpost.com.

- U ljeto 2022. moj suprug Chuck i ja poslali smo Henryja, našeg 18-godišnjeg sina, na koledž. Prevladao je toliko izazova da bi stigao tamo: poremećaj pažnje/hiperaktivnost, tjeskobu i poteškoće u povezivanju s drugom djecom.

Kako je sazrijevao, stekao je samopouzdanje sudjelujući u krosu, drami i debati. Razvio je odnos s vršnjacima tako što je više slušao, a manje pričao.

Kad je odletio na koledž, iza sebe je ostavio prijatelje iz srednje škole, ljetne poslove i grupe mladih. Bio je akademski spreman i čak je zaradio stipendiju.

Sljedećeg ponedjeljka navečer, oko ponoći, Chucka i mene su probudila dva policajca koji su nam rekli da je Henry mrtav - piše majka preminulog studenta.

Ranije te večeri, prvog dana nastave, Henry se nakon večere družio s kolegama studentima. Nestabilna konstrukcija u njegovoj blizini srušila se i usmrtila njega te ranila još dvoje učenika.

- Samo tako, otišao je. Počne me boljeti sredina prsnog koša, kao kad se može dogoditi nešto strašno. Ali već jest. Nikad više neću osjetiti svoje ruke oko širokih ramena svog sina.

Kako je ovo moguće? Pomogao sam Henryju da se raspakira u njegovoj sobi u domu. Odložili smo njegove traperice, brda čarapa i toaletne potrepštine, knjigu koju je s uzbuđenjem čitao pod nazivom "Nordijska teorija svega" i šalice instant juhe od crnog graha i limete Dr. McDougall.

U trenu su izbrisana sva očekivanja za našu obitelj i našu budućnost. U mislima još uvijek planiram roditeljski vikend, Dan zahvalnosti, šaljem njegovu zimsku odjeću, i tako dalje, i tako dalje. Vidim budućnost obiteljskih večera sa svoja dva sina - navedeno je u tekstu Huffpost.com.

- Sva su djeca nevjerojatna - pa tako i Henry. Bio je neizreciva kombinacija: čudan i nespretan, briljantan i zgodan, pošten i ljubazan. Kao dječak bio je opsjednut skupljanjem kamenja i brzo bi zaostao kad god bismo pješačili.

Kad bi mu se džepovi napuhali, spremao bi ih u podignutu košulju. Jednog je ljeta napunio cijelu torbu kamenjem prije nego što se vratio kući iz kampa.

U osnovnoj školi stalno je gubio stvari: ruksak, jaknu, kutiju za ručak ili violinu. Našli bismo ih posvuda osim u njegovoj učionici. Poput rastresenog profesora, nosio je košulje naopako, a kosu je rijetko četkao.

Bio je vegetarijanac, a njegov omiljeni obrok bila je chana masala nakon koje je slijedio sladoled dulce de leche. Uvijek me je dvaput zagrlio kad bi se opraštao.

Kako je rastao, Henry se počeo zanimati za javne poslove. Volio je čitati o političkoj korupciji i raspravljati o prednostima glasovanja po izboru. Provodio je sate na Redditu i dijelio smiješne memeove koje ja nikad nisam razumio.

Najsretniji je bio u društvu drugih tinejdžera i posjećivao je sastanke i konferencije mladih, čak i kad nikoga nije poznavao. Imao je divan osmijeh otvorenih usta i povezivao se s mnogim tinejdžerima koji su trebali prijatelja. Henry je stvorio vlastiti efekt leptira utkavši smijeh i svjetlost u živote drugih. Nikada nećemo saznati koliko - bolno je završila ispovijest nesretne majke.

Elizabeth Kopple je kreativna spisateljica koja istražuje život kroz prizmu ožalošćene majke. Nadahnjuje čitatelje koji su pretrpjeli gubitak djeteta svojim iskustvima s pokojnim sinom Henryjem.

Ona i njezin suprug žive na relaciji između Santa Monice u Kaliforniji i Washingtona, D.C., gdje njihov najmlađi sin pohađa koledž, a njihov gubitak opisala je za Huffpost.com.

- U ljeto 2022. moj suprug Chuck i ja poslali smo Henryja, našeg 18-godišnjeg sina, na koledž. Prevladao je toliko izazova da bi stigao tamo: poremećaj pažnje/hiperaktivnost, tjeskobu i poteškoće u povezivanju s drugom djecom.

Kako je sazrijevao, stekao je samopouzdanje sudjelujući u krosu, drami i debati. Razvio je odnos s vršnjacima tako što je više slušao, a manje pričao.

Kad je odletio na koledž, iza sebe je ostavio prijatelje iz srednje škole, ljetne poslove i grupe mladih. Bio je akademski spreman i čak je zaradio stipendiju.

Sljedećeg ponedjeljka navečer, oko ponoći, Chucka i mene su probudila dva policajca koji su nam rekli da je Henry mrtav - piše majka preminulog studenta.

Ranije te večeri, prvog dana nastave, Henry se nakon večere družio s kolegama studentima. Nestabilna konstrukcija u njegovoj blizini srušila se i usmrtila njega te ranila još dvoje učenika.

- Samo tako, otišao je. Počne me boljeti sredina prsnog koša, kao kad se može dogoditi nešto strašno. Ali već jest. Nikad više neću osjetiti svoje ruke oko širokih ramena svog sina.

Kako je ovo moguće? Pomogao sam Henryju da se raspakira u njegovoj sobi u domu. Odložili smo njegove traperice, brda čarapa i toaletne potrepštine, knjigu koju je s uzbuđenjem čitao pod nazivom "Nordijska teorija svega" i šalice instant juhe od crnog graha i limete Dr. McDougall.

U trenu su izbrisana sva očekivanja za našu obitelj i našu budućnost. U mislima još uvijek planiram roditeljski vikend, Dan zahvalnosti, šaljem njegovu zimsku odjeću, i tako dalje, i tako dalje. Vidim budućnost obiteljskih večera sa svoja dva sina - navedeno je u tekstu Huffpost.com.

- Sva su djeca nevjerojatna - pa tako i Henry. Bio je neizreciva kombinacija: čudan i nespretan, briljantan i zgodan, pošten i ljubazan. Kao dječak bio je opsjednut skupljanjem kamenja i brzo bi zaostao kad god bismo pješačili.

Kad bi mu se džepovi napuhali, spremao bi ih u podignutu košulju. Jednog je ljeta napunio cijelu torbu kamenjem prije nego što se vratio kući iz kampa.

U osnovnoj školi stalno je gubio stvari: ruksak, jaknu, kutiju za ručak ili violinu. Našli bismo ih posvuda osim u njegovoj učionici. Poput rastresenog profesora, nosio je košulje naopako, a kosu je rijetko četkao.

Bio je vegetarijanac, a njegov omiljeni obrok bila je chana masala nakon koje je slijedio sladoled dulce de leche. Uvijek me je dvaput zagrlio kad bi se opraštao.

Kako je rastao, Henry se počeo zanimati za javne poslove. Volio je čitati o političkoj korupciji i raspravljati o prednostima glasovanja po izboru. Provodio je sate na Redditu i dijelio smiješne memeove koje ja nikad nisam razumio.

Najsretniji je bio u društvu drugih tinejdžera i posjećivao je sastanke i konferencije mladih, čak i kad nikoga nije poznavao. Imao je divan osmijeh otvorenih usta i povezivao se s mnogim tinejdžerima koji su trebali prijatelja. Henry je stvorio vlastiti efekt leptira utkavši smijeh i svjetlost u živote drugih. Nikada nećemo saznati koliko - bolno je završila ispovijest nesretne majke.
