Otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 puno smo toga pokušali kako bismo spriječili njeno širenje i često smo metodom pogreški i pokušaja dolazili do novih rješenja. Glavna stvar na kojoj svi rade trenutno je cjepivo, ali Forbesov stručnjak za zdravlje upozorava na važnosti testiranja i utrku u pronalaženju efikasnih testova. Uskoro bismo tako trebali dobiti nove vrste koje bi ubrzale i pojeftinile čitav proces.

Dobar sustav testiranja je ključan da bi se pandemija prestala širiti. Trenutno zaista i imamo veliki broj mogućnosti ispred sebe. Razumijemo što podrazumijeva otkrivanje pojačanih virusnih elemenata, za razliku od otkrivanja antitijela koja stvaramo kao odgovor na virus, dakle razlikujemo što znači da smo preboljeli, a što da još uvijek imamo virus.

Postoje PCR, serološki, s varijacijama poput brzih testova (RDT), enzimskih testova (ELISA), testova neutralizacije (PRNT) i imunoloških testova (CLIA), imamo čak i testove daha, dresiramo i pse da nanjuše virus. Međutim svaki od ovih testova ima neke svoje mane koje uključuju čak i pogrešne rezultate pa bi nam hitno trebalo efikasnije rješenje.

Najbolji način da se naučimo živjeti s pandemijom, što ćemo neminovno morati učiniti je razviti brže, jednostavnije, jeftinije i točnije dijagnostičke testove.

Prvi testovi koje smo počeli koristiti za otkrivanje infekcije bili su ne samo skupi, već i ne baš pouzdani te ih je bilo lako kontaminirati. Rezultati masovnih ispitivanja u zemljama poput Singapura ili Južne Koreje naveli su druge zemlje da pokušaju slijediti istu strategiju i testiraju veći broj ljudi. Zahvaljujući njima isto tako smo i shvatili da su testovi zapravo samo detektirali aktualno stanje osobe i da možda tek naknadno bude pozitivna. Zato se treba testirati nekad i više puta. Čekanje rezultata testova po nekoliko dana posve je besmisleno jer smo se mogli već u međuvremenu opet zaraziti.

Zbog toga je sada u tijeku utrka koja uključuje organizacije poput Zaklade Billa i Melinde Gates, španjolskog PharmaMar, Cepheid, Abbot, 3M, Sveučilišta Oxford i mnogih drugih. Zaklada XPRIZE ponudila je nagradu od 5 milijuna američkih dolara onome tko može smisliti pouzdan test koji daje rezultate u nekoliko minuta ili najviše, nekoliko sati, a koštao bi manje od 12 dolara: na natjecanje se prijavilo oko 699 timova iz 70 zemalja.

Nedugo zatim tehnološke kompanije će osmisliti jeftine, jednostavne i pouzdane testne pakete koje bismo mogli koristiti sami bez medicinskog osoblja kući. Na primjer, kada prijatelji ili obitelj posjećuju naše domove, kada prisustvujemo nekom društvenom događanju, i da dat će nam veći osjećaj normalnosti i sigurnosti. Isto tako moći ćemo biti u kontaktu s onima s kojima prije nismo mogli. 

Naravno, taj će osjećaj normalnosti biti prolazan: kad se vratimo vani u rizične situacije, opet ćemo se izložiti različitim kontaktima što će zahtijevati ponovno testiranje koje će tako, uz maske postati dio naše svakodnevice.

Otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 puno smo toga pokušali kako bismo spriječili njeno širenje i često smo metodom pogreški i pokušaja dolazili do novih rješenja. Glavna stvar na kojoj svi rade trenutno je cjepivo, ali Forbesov stručnjak za zdravlje upozorava na važnosti testiranja i utrku u pronalaženju efikasnih testova. Uskoro bismo tako trebali dobiti nove vrste koje bi ubrzale i pojeftinile čitav proces.

Dobar sustav testiranja je ključan da bi se pandemija prestala širiti. Trenutno zaista i imamo veliki broj mogućnosti ispred sebe. Razumijemo što podrazumijeva otkrivanje pojačanih virusnih elemenata, za razliku od otkrivanja antitijela koja stvaramo kao odgovor na virus, dakle razlikujemo što znači da smo preboljeli, a što da još uvijek imamo virus.

Postoje PCR, serološki, s varijacijama poput brzih testova (RDT), enzimskih testova (ELISA), testova neutralizacije (PRNT) i imunoloških testova (CLIA), imamo čak i testove daha, dresiramo i pse da nanjuše virus. Međutim svaki od ovih testova ima neke svoje mane koje uključuju čak i pogrešne rezultate pa bi nam hitno trebalo efikasnije rješenje.

Najbolji način da se naučimo živjeti s pandemijom, što ćemo neminovno morati učiniti je razviti brže, jednostavnije, jeftinije i točnije dijagnostičke testove.

Prvi testovi koje smo počeli koristiti za otkrivanje infekcije bili su ne samo skupi, već i ne baš pouzdani te ih je bilo lako kontaminirati. Rezultati masovnih ispitivanja u zemljama poput Singapura ili Južne Koreje naveli su druge zemlje da pokušaju slijediti istu strategiju i testiraju veći broj ljudi. Zahvaljujući njima isto tako smo i shvatili da su testovi zapravo samo detektirali aktualno stanje osobe i da možda tek naknadno bude pozitivna. Zato se treba testirati nekad i više puta. Čekanje rezultata testova po nekoliko dana posve je besmisleno jer smo se mogli već u međuvremenu opet zaraziti.

Zbog toga je sada u tijeku utrka koja uključuje organizacije poput Zaklade Billa i Melinde Gates, španjolskog PharmaMar, Cepheid, Abbot, 3M, Sveučilišta Oxford i mnogih drugih. Zaklada XPRIZE ponudila je nagradu od 5 milijuna američkih dolara onome tko može smisliti pouzdan test koji daje rezultate u nekoliko minuta ili najviše, nekoliko sati, a koštao bi manje od 12 dolara: na natjecanje se prijavilo oko 699 timova iz 70 zemalja.

Nedugo zatim tehnološke kompanije će osmisliti jeftine, jednostavne i pouzdane testne pakete koje bismo mogli koristiti sami bez medicinskog osoblja kući. Na primjer, kada prijatelji ili obitelj posjećuju naše domove, kada prisustvujemo nekom društvenom događanju, i da dat će nam veći osjećaj normalnosti i sigurnosti. Isto tako moći ćemo biti u kontaktu s onima s kojima prije nismo mogli. 

Naravno, taj će osjećaj normalnosti biti prolazan: kad se vratimo vani u rizične situacije, opet ćemo se izložiti različitim kontaktima što će zahtijevati ponovno testiranje koje će tako, uz maske postati dio naše svakodnevice.

Otkako je počela pandemija Covida-19 puno smo toga pokušali kako bismo spriječili njeno širenje i često smo metodom pogreški i pokušaja dolazili do novih rješenja. Glavna stvar na kojoj svi rade trenutno je cjepivo, ali Forbesov stručnjak za zdravlje upozorava na važnosti testiranja i utrku u pronalaženju efikasnih testova. Uskoro bismo tako trebali dobiti nove vrste koje bi ubrzale i pojeftinile čitav proces.

Dobar sustav testiranja je ključan da bi se pandemija prestala širiti. Trenutno zaista i imamo veliki broj mogućnosti ispred sebe. Razumijemo što podrazumijeva otkrivanje pojačanih virusnih elemenata, za razliku od otkrivanja antitijela koja stvaramo kao odgovor na virus, dakle razlikujemo što znači da smo preboljeli, a što da još uvijek imamo virus.
