Hormonalne promjene prirodni su dio starenja, no iskustvo je različito za muškarce i žene. Za razliku od dramatičnijeg pada hormona koji se događa kod žena tijekom menopauze, promjene spolnih hormona kod muškaraca se događaju postupno. Ovo je stanje koje se naziva muška menopauza.

U muškaraca, proizvodnja testosterona i drugih hormona opada tijekom mnogo godina, a posljedice nisu nužno jasne. Ovo postupno opadanje razine testosterona naziva se kasni hipogonadizam ili nizak testosteron povezan s godinama.

Prepoznavanje niske razine testosterona

Međutim, većina starijih muškaraca još uvijek ima razinu testosterona unutar normalnog raspona, a samo procijenjenih 10% do 25% ima razine koje se smatraju niskima, prenosi Kurir. 

Niska razina testosterona kod starijih muškaraca često prođe nezapaženo. Razina testosterona može se provjeriti testom krvi, ali testovi se ne rade rutinski. A mnogi muškarci koji imaju nizak testosteron nemaju simptome. Osim toga, znakovi i simptomi povezani s niskim testosteronom nisu specifični za nizak testosteron. Oni također mogu biti uzrokovani godinama, korištenjem droga ili drugim uvjetima, kao što je indeks tjelesne mase od 30 ili više.

Znakovi i simptomi niske razine testosterona uključuju:

smanjena seksualna želja i aktivnost

smanjena spontana erekcija ili erektilna disfunkcija

umor i opći gubitak energije

depresija, razdražljivost i/ili promjene raspoloženja

neplodnost

valovi vrućine ili znojenje

debljanje, posebno oko trbuha

loša koncentracija, kratkotrajni gubitak pamćenja i pojava tzv. "moždane magle"

Također se mogu pojaviti anemija, problemi sa spavanjem i smanjena energija

Također je moguće doživjeti povećanu pospanost, poremećaje spavanja, blagu, neobjašnjivu anemiju, smanjenje mišićne mase i snage te povećanje tjelesne masti, piše Kurir.

Stručnjaci preporučuju samo testiranje starijih muškaraca na nizak testosteron ako imaju znakove ili simptome. Ako početni test pokaže nisku razinu testosterona, test treba ponoviti kako bi se potvrdili rezultati. Ako se potvrdi nizak testosteron, preporučuje se daljnje testiranje hipofize kako bi se utvrdio uzrok i isključili nedostaci drugih hormona.

Hormonalne promjene prirodni su dio starenja, no iskustvo je različito za muškarce i žene. Za razliku od dramatičnijeg pada hormona koji se događa kod žena tijekom menopauze, promjene spolnih hormona kod muškaraca se događaju postupno. Ovo je stanje koje se naziva muška menopauza.

U muškaraca, proizvodnja testosterona i drugih hormona opada tijekom mnogo godina, a posljedice nisu nužno jasne. Ovo postupno opadanje razine testosterona naziva se kasni hipogonadizam ili nizak testosteron povezan s godinama.

Prepoznavanje niske razine testosterona

Međutim, većina starijih muškaraca još uvijek ima razinu testosterona unutar normalnog raspona, a samo procijenjenih 10% do 25% ima razine koje se smatraju niskima, prenosi Kurir. 

Niska razina testosterona kod starijih muškaraca često prođe nezapaženo. Razina testosterona može se provjeriti testom krvi, ali testovi se ne rade rutinski. A mnogi muškarci koji imaju nizak testosteron nemaju simptome. Osim toga, znakovi i simptomi povezani s niskim testosteronom nisu specifični za nizak testosteron. Oni također mogu biti uzrokovani godinama, korištenjem droga ili drugim uvjetima, kao što je indeks tjelesne mase od 30 ili više.

Znakovi i simptomi niske razine testosterona uključuju:

smanjena seksualna želja i aktivnost

smanjena spontana erekcija ili erektilna disfunkcija

umor i opći gubitak energije

depresija, razdražljivost i/ili promjene raspoloženja

neplodnost

valovi vrućine ili znojenje

debljanje, posebno oko trbuha

loša koncentracija, kratkotrajni gubitak pamćenja i pojava tzv. "moždane magle"

Također se mogu pojaviti anemija, problemi sa spavanjem i smanjena energija

Također je moguće doživjeti povećanu pospanost, poremećaje spavanja, blagu, neobjašnjivu anemiju, smanjenje mišićne mase i snage te povećanje tjelesne masti, piše Kurir.

Stručnjaci preporučuju samo testiranje starijih muškaraca na nizak testosteron ako imaju znakove ili simptome. Ako početni test pokaže nisku razinu testosterona, test treba ponoviti kako bi se potvrdili rezultati. Ako se potvrdi nizak testosteron, preporučuje se daljnje testiranje hipofize kako bi se utvrdio uzrok i isključili nedostaci drugih hormona.
