Dobar vid ovisi o brojnim hranjivim sastojcima koje moramo unijeti hranom ili uz pomoć dodataka prehrani. Tvar koja je posebno važna za zdravlje očiju naziva se lutein. Klasificiran je kao karotenoid, koji u našem tijelu djeluje i kao antioksidans, odnosno tvari koje se bore protiv opasnih slobodnih radikala. Karotenoidi su tzv. fitokemikalije koje se mogu naći u raznim biljkama.
Žive boje biljaka ili njihovih plodova - posebno crvene, narančaste i žute - bogate su karotenoidima. Lutein je jedini karotenoid prisutan u ljudskoj mrežnici osim zeaksantina. Najveće količine ovog karotenoida mogu se naći na području makule ili makule (pa se lutein ponekad naziva i makularni pigment). Makula je dio mrežnice koji ima izuzetno velik utjecaj na naš vid, pa ne čudi da je lutein vrlo važan u smanjenju rizika od raznih očnih problema.
Lutein kao preventiva
Lutein - poput ostalih karotenoida - smanjuje rizik od oksidativnog stresa koji je povezan s mnogim kroničnim bolestima, a ujedno ima i protuupalno djelovanje. Ako osiguramo dovoljan unos luteina, to može pridonijeti oštrijem vidu i poboljšanoj osjetljivosti očiju na kontraste. Istodobno, lutein može smanjiti mogućnost oštećenja oka zbog izlaganja sunčevoj svjetlosti i plavom svjetlu koje emitiraju različiti elektronički uređaji, a istovremeno je tvar koja usporava odumiranje očnih stanica.
Budući da je lutein uključen u pretvorbu svjetlosnih signala na našoj mrežnici i jer pomaže u prevođenju tih signala u dijelove mozga odgovorne za vid, nedostatak ove tvari može dovesti do ozbiljnih komplikacija. Adekvatan unos luteina, međutim, nije samo koristan kao preventiva, već može pomoći i onima kojima su već dijagnosticirani različiti problemi s očima.
Kod ljudi s dobnom degeneracijom makule lutein može pomoći usporiti napredovanje bolesti, smanjujući time rizik sljepoće. Također je korisno za ljude s dijabetičnom retinopatijom, za one s kataraktom i za sindrom suhog oka, koji je često povezan s neugodnim osjećajima žarenja, svrbeža i crvenila. Lutein može pomoći u ublažavanju svih navedenih simptoma.
Gdje je najviše luteina i koliko ga je potrebno?
Osigurati dovoljan unos luteina jedna od najvažnijih mjera koje možemo poduzeti kako bismo zaštitili oči ili spriječili daljnji gubitak vida ako su se ozljede već dogodile. Ali što se tiče potrebne količine, za sada ne postoje jasno definirane smjernice, pa se možemo oslanjati uglavnom na razna istraživanja.
Jedan od njih, koji je trajao čak 5 godina i u kojem je sudjelovalo 4200 ljudi, otkrio je, na primjer, da dnevni unos luteina potreban za smanjenje rizika od degeneracije slijepe točke iznosi oko 10 mg. Nažalost, mnogi ljudi svakodnevno unose mnogo manje količine ovog karotenoida.
Namirnice, posebno bogate luteinom su kelj, špinat, salata i druge vrste zelenog lisnatog povrća, te brokula, peršin, bosiljak, poriluk, grašak, crvena paprika, kukuruz i pistacije. Za najbolju moguću apsorpciju, preporučljivo je kombinirati navedenu hranu sa zdravim masnoćama.
Ako je potrebno, možete si pomoći i s dodacima prehrani koji sadrže veće količine luteina, što se naravno posebno preporučuje onima koji već imaju određenih problema s očima ili svima onima kojima prijeti rizik od razvoja takvih problema, između ostalog i zbog genetskih čimbenika.

Dobar vid ovisi o brojnim hranjivim sastojcima koje moramo unijeti hranom ili uz pomoć dodataka prehrani. Tvar koja je posebno važna za zdravlje očiju naziva se lutein. Klasificiran je kao karotenoid, koji u našem tijelu djeluje i kao antioksidans, odnosno tvari koje se bore protiv opasnih slobodnih radikala. Karotenoidi su tzv. fitokemikalije koje se mogu naći u raznim biljkama.
Žive boje biljaka ili njihovih plodova - posebno crvene, narančaste i žute - bogate su karotenoidima. Lutein je jedini karotenoid prisutan u ljudskoj mrežnici osim zeaksantina. Najveće količine ovog karotenoida mogu se naći na području makule ili makule (pa se lutein ponekad naziva i makularni pigment). Makula je dio mrežnice koji ima izuzetno velik utjecaj na naš vid, pa ne čudi da je lutein vrlo važan u smanjenju rizika od raznih očnih problema.
Lutein kao preventiva
Lutein - poput ostalih karotenoida - smanjuje rizik od oksidativnog stresa koji je povezan s mnogim kroničnim bolestima, a ujedno ima i protuupalno djelovanje. Ako osiguramo dovoljan unos luteina, to može pridonijeti oštrijem vidu i poboljšanoj osjetljivosti očiju na kontraste. Istodobno, lutein može smanjiti mogućnost oštećenja oka zbog izlaganja sunčevoj svjetlosti i plavom svjetlu koje emitiraju različiti elektronički uređaji, a istovremeno je tvar koja usporava odumiranje očnih stanica.
Budući da je lutein uključen u pretvorbu svjetlosnih signala na našoj mrežnici i jer pomaže u prevođenju tih signala u dijelove mozga odgovorne za vid, nedostatak ove tvari može dovesti do ozbiljnih komplikacija. Adekvatan unos luteina, međutim, nije samo koristan kao preventiva, već može pomoći i onima kojima su već dijagnosticirani različiti problemi s očima.
Kod ljudi s dobnom degeneracijom makule lutein može pomoći usporiti napredovanje bolesti, smanjujući time rizik sljepoće. Također je korisno za ljude s dijabetičnom retinopatijom, za one s kataraktom i za sindrom suhog oka, koji je često povezan s neugodnim osjećajima žarenja, svrbeža i crvenila. Lutein može pomoći u ublažavanju svih navedenih simptoma.
Gdje je najviše luteina i koliko ga je potrebno?
Osigurati dovoljan unos luteina jedna od najvažnijih mjera koje možemo poduzeti kako bismo zaštitili oči ili spriječili daljnji gubitak vida ako su se ozljede već dogodile. Ali što se tiče potrebne količine, za sada ne postoje jasno definirane smjernice, pa se možemo oslanjati uglavnom na razna istraživanja.
Jedan od njih, koji je trajao čak 5 godina i u kojem je sudjelovalo 4200 ljudi, otkrio je, na primjer, da dnevni unos luteina potreban za smanjenje rizika od degeneracije slijepe točke iznosi oko 10 mg. Nažalost, mnogi ljudi svakodnevno unose mnogo manje količine ovog karotenoida.
Namirnice, posebno bogate luteinom su kelj, špinat, salata i druge vrste zelenog lisnatog povrća, te brokula, peršin, bosiljak, poriluk, grašak, crvena paprika, kukuruz i pistacije. Za najbolju moguću apsorpciju, preporučljivo je kombinirati navedenu hranu sa zdravim masnoćama.
Ako je potrebno, možete si pomoći i s dodacima prehrani koji sadrže veće količine luteina, što se naravno posebno preporučuje onima koji već imaju određenih problema s očima ili svima onima kojima prijeti rizik od razvoja takvih problema, između ostalog i zbog genetskih čimbenika.
