Snježni leopardi u zoološkom vrtu u američkom gradu Louisville posljednje su u nizu životinja zaraženih koronavirusom. Jedna ženka ove vrste velikih mačaka, NeeCee, testirana je pozitivno, a dva mužjaka, Kimti i Meru, smatraju se pozitivnima na temelju testova u regionalnom veterinarsko-dijagnostičkom centru koji još moraju biti potvrđeni u nacionalnom laboratoriju, prenosi The New York Times.

Sve tri životinje pokazuju slične manje simptome kašlja i kihanja, slično poput tigrova i lavova u zoološkom vrtu u Bronxu koji su bili pozitivni još u travnju. Štićenice zoološkoga u New Yorku oporavile su se bez poteškoća, pa se očekuje da će situacija biti ista i sa snježnim leopardima u Kentuckyju.

Kućne mačke, psi i nerci također su se već ranije zarazili virusom koji kod ljudi uzrokuje Covid-19. Domaće mačke i nerc mogu ga prenijeti na druge životinje. Nerc je jedina životinja do sada za koju je poznato da je bila teško bolesne i jedina životinje za koju je poznato da prenosi virus natrag na ljude.

Iz tog razloga Danska je naredila da se ubije oko 17 milijuna nerca iz straha da bi virus kod njih mogao mutirati i tako negativno utjecati na potencijalnu učinkovitost cjepiva. Ti strahovi nisu službeno potkrijepljeni, ali brojni znanstvenici podržali su njihov potez jer paralelna pandemija nerca povećava rizik od mutacija i veće šanse za prijenos na ljude i možda druge životinje.

Za sada nema dokumentiranih slučajeva da psi ili mačke prenose virus na ljude. Centri za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti nude preporuke za postupanje s kućnim ljubimcima ako se vlasnici zaraze, a Ministarstvo poljoprivrede ima smjernice za uzgajivače nerca.

Testovi na virus na životinjama nisu isti kao oni na ljudima i mogu se provoditi samo u specijaliziranim laboratorijima koji ne testiraju ljude. Zoološki vrt u Louisvilleu poslao je uzorke fekalija u Veterinarski dijagnostički laboratorij Sveučilišta Illinois, koji je obavio početna ispitivanja koja su pokazala da su sva tri snježna leoparda pozitivna. Uzorci su zatim proslijeđeni Nacionalnim laboratorijima za veterinarske usluge u Amesu, Iowa, što je potvrdilo pozitivan rezultat za ženku snježnog leoparda dok mužjaci još čekaju drugi rezultat.

Snježni leopardi u zoološkom vrtu u američkom gradu Louisville posljednje su u nizu životinja zaraženih koronavirusom. Jedna ženka ove vrste velikih mačaka, NeeCee, testirana je pozitivno, a dva mužjaka, Kimti i Meru, smatraju se pozitivnima na temelju testova u regionalnom veterinarsko-dijagnostičkom centru koji još moraju biti potvrđeni u nacionalnom laboratoriju, prenosi The New York Times.

Sve tri životinje pokazuju slične manje simptome kašlja i kihanja, slično poput tigrova i lavova u zoološkom vrtu u Bronxu koji su bili pozitivni još u travnju. Štićenice zoološkoga u New Yorku oporavile su se bez poteškoća, pa se očekuje da će situacija biti ista i sa snježnim leopardima u Kentuckyju.

Kućne mačke, psi i nerci također su se već ranije zarazili virusom koji kod ljudi uzrokuje Covid-19. Domaće mačke i nerc mogu ga prenijeti na druge životinje. Nerc je jedina životinja do sada za koju je poznato da je bila teško bolesne i jedina životinje za koju je poznato da prenosi virus natrag na ljude.

Iz tog razloga Danska je naredila da se ubije oko 17 milijuna nerca iz straha da bi virus kod njih mogao mutirati i tako negativno utjecati na potencijalnu učinkovitost cjepiva. Ti strahovi nisu službeno potkrijepljeni, ali brojni znanstvenici podržali su njihov potez jer paralelna pandemija nerca povećava rizik od mutacija i veće šanse za prijenos na ljude i možda druge životinje.

Za sada nema dokumentiranih slučajeva da psi ili mačke prenose virus na ljude. Centri za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti nude preporuke za postupanje s kućnim ljubimcima ako se vlasnici zaraze, a Ministarstvo poljoprivrede ima smjernice za uzgajivače nerca.

Testovi na virus na životinjama nisu isti kao oni na ljudima i mogu se provoditi samo u specijaliziranim laboratorijima koji ne testiraju ljude. Zoološki vrt u Louisvilleu poslao je uzorke fekalija u Veterinarski dijagnostički laboratorij Sveučilišta Illinois, koji je obavio početna ispitivanja koja su pokazala da su sva tri snježna leoparda pozitivna. Uzorci su zatim proslijeđeni Nacionalnim laboratorijima za veterinarske usluge u Amesu, Iowa, što je potvrdilo pozitivan rezultat za ženku snježnog leoparda dok mužjaci još čekaju drugi rezultat.

Snježni leopardi zarazili su se Covidom-19: zasad je samo jedna životinjska vrsta uspjela prenijeti virus nazad na ljude

Snježni leopardi u zoološkom vrtu u američkom gradu Louisville posljednje su u nizu životinja zaraženih koronavirusom. Jedna ženka ove vrste velikih mačaka, NeeCee, testirana je pozitivno, a dva mužjaka, Kimti i Meru, smatraju se pozitivnima na temelju testova u regionalnom veterinarsko-dijagnostičkom centru koji još moraju biti potvrđeni u nacionalnom laboratoriju, prenosi The New York Times.

Sve tri životinje pokazuju slične manje simptome kašlja i kihanja, slično poput tigrova i lavova u zoološkom vrtu u Bronxu koji su bili pozitivni još u travnju. Štićenice zoološkoga u New Yorku oporavile su se bez poteškoća, pa se očekuje da će situacija biti ista i sa snježnim leopardima u Kentuckyju.

Kućne mačke, psi i nerci također su se već ranije zarazili virusom...
