Decenijska anketa 100 najboljih filmova svih vremena časopisa “Sight and Sound ” postala je 2022. po prvi put bogatija za “Apartman” (“The Apartment”, 1960.). Od filmova velikog Billyja Wildera dosad su se na listi obično nalazili “Neki to vole vruće” i “Bulevar sumraka”, a sada i “Apartman”, i to pozicioniran između njih.
Wilder je po novome zastupljen s tri filma, kao i npr. Stanley Kubrick (“Odiseja u svemiru ”, “Barry Lyndon”, “Isijavanje ”), dok četiri imaju samo Alfred Hitchcock (“Vrtoglavica ”, “Psiho ”, “Prozor u dvorište ”, “Sjever-sjeverozapad ”) i Jean-Luc Godard , počevši s “Do posljednjeg daha ”.

Zasluženo je to priznanje za Wildera, ali i “The Apartment” koji je nekako uvijek ostajao u sjeni klasične komedije “Some Like It Hot” i noirovske satirične crnohumorne drame “Sunset Boulevard”.
Pridoda li se ovim trima filmovima i noir krimi-triler “Dvostruka obmana”, eto Wilderove fantastične četvorke. Odabrati najbolji film u ovakvoj konkurenciji prilično je nemoguće, ali nakon novog gledanja izbor pada na “The Apartment”, barem do nekog idućeg susreta s preostalom trojkom.
”Apartman” je sumacija svega najboljeg od Wildera. Crno-bijeli kolorit sugerira da je film lako mogao postati i noir poput “Double Indemnity” i “Sunset Boulevard”, što se ne događa, ali je preuzeo njihovu mračnost, melankoliju, gorčinu i satiričnost, kao i glumca Freda MacMurrayja iz prvospomenutog klasika.
Od “Neki to vole vruće” naslijedio je, pak, humornu vrckavost, svršetak za anale s još jednom nezaboravnom odjavnom/posljednjom rečenicom (“Šuti i dijeli” – “Nitko nije savršen”) i Jacka Lemmona , zamalo i Marilyn Monroe s kojom je Wilder radio i romantičnu komediju “Sedam godina vjernosti ”.
”The Apartment” je sve to pomalo, (crna) komedija, drama, romansa, satira, farsa, rom-com, ali i božićni film, jedini na listi “Sight and Sounda”, lišenoj “Divnog života ”. Radnja s odvija tijekom blagdanske sezone i uključuje razdoblje od prije Badnjaka do proslave Nove godine: Wilder snima i “office Christmas party” koji, dakako, neće postati “Ludi Božić u uredu ”.
Nije to tipična božićna komedija, na koncu “Apartman” je nastao u vrijeme kad Hollywood nije smjerno snimao “Christmas movies”. Božićne dekoracije su u podlozi kadra, a u prvom planu blagdanska melankolija koju savršeno, na granici komedije i tragedije, utjelovljuje Lemmon kao usamljeni C.C. Baxter zvani Bud, radnik s 19. kata newyorške osiguravajuće tvrtke.

Ne samo da Baxter nema kome doma poći, djevojci, ženi ili obitelji, nego jedva da ima i dom s obzirom da iznajmljuje svoj “ugodan, nije otmjen, ali zgodan” stan šefovima iz uprave (Ray Walston, Willard Waterman, David White ), uključujući i šefa svih šefova, mr. Sheldrakea (MacMurray), a oni tamo dovode ljubavnice od kojih jedna “izgleda kao Marilyn Monroe”. Baxter to radi u zamjenu za njihovu dobru riječ u kadrovskoj, tj. promaknuće u firmi i(li) povišicu, napredovanje na korporativnoj ljestvici.
”Ne mogu uvijek ući kad hoću”, notira siroti Baxter, čameći na kiši i zimi ispred zgrade kao pas dok čeka da neki od šefova, koji ga iskorištavaju, obave svoje, zbog čega će se razboliti i, takav, pokušati preusmjeriti raspored rentanja stana da ozdravi u vrhunski glumljenoj sceni “slapstick” komedije.
“Čiji je stan?”, u prolazu načujemo pitanje jedne ljubavnice i ponižavajući odgovor “Od neke budale s posla”. Naravno, “neka budala s posla” je Baxter kojeg Wilder geometrijski precizno kadrira samoga u središtu beskrajnog bijelog ureda (kao krajnjoj scenografskoj suprotnosti njegovom malom, mračnom stanu) tako da bi i jedan Kubrick bio mogao biti ljubomoran na “The Apartment”.
Wilder je dobio inspiraciju za film nakon gledanja “Kratkog susreta” Davida Leana s preljubnicima u iznajmljenom stanu muškarčeva prijatelja. Redatelj se sažalio nad čovjekom koji je prisiljen spavati u krevetu ljubavnika nakon njihove preljubničke afere, fokusirao na njegovu tragiku i kreirao Baxtera.
Susjedi, poput dr. Dreyfussa (Jack Kruschen ), misle da je Baxter svojevrsni Casanova, a on sve usamljeniji i jedino živne kad vidi kolegicu iz lifta, gđicu Kubelik u interpretaciji divne, neodoljivo slatke Shirley MacLaine . Draga mu je vrlo, on njoj također. Oboje se razlikuju od svih u zgradi (Baxter jedini skida šešir u dizalu) i stvoreni su jedno za drugo, no postoje komplikacije.

Gđica Kubelik je u preljubničkoj vezi sa Sheldrakeom, koji je dovodi u Baxterov stan i prodaje joj priče da će se razvesti, ali to nikako da napravi. “Kad voliš oženjena muškarca, ne smiješ nositi maskaru”, u jednoj u nizu odlično napisanih rečenica zaključuje Kubelik koja se pita “zašto ljudi uopće moraju voljeti ljude?”.
Baš kao Baxter, gđica Kubelik prihvaća kompromise i pokušava iskoristiti nadređene za svoj probitak i ostvarenje snova (da postane šefova žena, a on zamjenik šefa), ali oboje završavaju iskorišteni. Jer, tako stvari funkcioniraju u (korporativnom) svijetu izvrnutih društvenih i inih vrijednosti, gdje je normalno da je novac jedini motiv i da oženjeni šefovi odvode zaposlenice u krevet i poigravaju se osjećajima žena koje se, poput Kubelik, zaljube u “pogrešnog čovjeka u pogrešno vrijeme i mjesto”.
Cinični Wilder, međutim, kritizira takav šovinistički, seksistički sustav i osuđuje ga davno prije svog vremena, što film iz 1960. čini još uvijek relevantnim i subverzivno vizionarskim kad temeljne (bez)vrijednosti dehumanizirajućeg, bešćutnog sistema poljuljaju humanistički likovi usamljenog zlatnog srca Kubelik i Baxter koji odlučuje da će slušati doktora i postati “mensch”.
Usamljenost je osjetna u filmu režiranom na razmeđi cinizma i humanizma, posvećenom (ne)uzvraćenim ljubavima i tužnim, usamljenim srcima koja kucaju snažnije u melankolično, pa i depresivno blagdansko doba, kad ljudi očajnički pristaju na ljubav za jednu noć samo da ne budu sami, kao u sceni kad Baxteru za šankom pristupi gđa Margie (Hope Holiday ).
Romansa kuca u srcu “Apartmana” i romantično ozračje je opipljivo koliko i melankolično, a suptilne interakcije Lemmona i MacLaine su sjajne. Pa ipak, ako “The Apartment” postavlja neke temelje za buduće rom-comove, poput scene trčanja naglo prosvjetljenog lika na drugi kraj grada, film ne završava bajkovito kako biste očekivali i obrće odnos muškog i ženskog lika u sličnim situacijama. Kartanje umjesto ljubljenja. “Šuti i dijeli” umjesto “I ja tebe volim”.

"Apartman" je bio posljednji crno-bijeli film koji je osvojio glavnog Oscara sve do "Schindlerove list" 33 godine kasnije.

Decenijska anketa 100 najboljih filmova svih vremena časopisa “Sight and Sound ” postala je 2022. po prvi put bogatija za “Apartman” (“The Apartment”, 1960.). Od filmova velikog Billyja Wildera dosad su se na listi obično nalazili “Neki to vole vruće” i “Bulevar sumraka”, a sada i “Apartman”, i to pozicioniran između njih.
Wilder je po novome zastupljen s tri filma, kao i npr. Stanley Kubrick (“Odiseja u svemiru ”, “Barry Lyndon”, “Isijavanje ”), dok četiri imaju samo Alfred Hitchcock (“Vrtoglavica ”, “Psiho ”, “Prozor u dvorište ”, “Sjever-sjeverozapad ”) i Jean-Luc Godard , počevši s “Do posljednjeg daha ”.

Zasluženo je to priznanje za Wildera, ali i “The Apartment” koji je nekako uvijek ostajao u sjeni klasične komedije “Some Like It Hot” i noirovske satirične crnohumorne drame “Sunset Boulevard”.
Pridoda li se ovim trima filmovima i noir krimi-triler “Dvostruka obmana”, eto Wilderove fantastične četvorke. Odabrati najbolji film u ovakvoj konkurenciji prilično je nemoguće, ali nakon novog gledanja izbor pada na “The Apartment”, barem do nekog idućeg susreta s preostalom trojkom.
”Apartman” je sumacija svega najboljeg od Wildera. Crno-bijeli kolorit sugerira da je film lako mogao postati i noir poput “Double Indemnity” i “Sunset Boulevard”, što se ne događa, ali je preuzeo njihovu mračnost, melankoliju, gorčinu i satiričnost, kao i glumca Freda MacMurrayja iz prvospomenutog klasika.
Od “Neki to vole vruće” naslijedio je, pak, humornu vrckavost, svršetak za anale s još jednom nezaboravnom odjavnom/posljednjom rečenicom (“Šuti i dijeli” – “Nitko nije savršen”) i Jacka Lemmona , zamalo i Marilyn Monroe s kojom je Wilder radio i romantičnu komediju “Sedam godina vjernosti ”.
”The Apartment” je sve to pomalo, (crna) komedija, drama, romansa, satira, farsa, rom-com, ali i božićni film, jedini na listi “Sight and Sounda”, lišenoj “Divnog života ”. Radnja s odvija tijekom blagdanske sezone i uključuje razdoblje od prije Badnjaka do proslave Nove godine: Wilder snima i “office Christmas party” koji, dakako, neće postati “Ludi Božić u uredu ”.
Nije to tipična božićna komedija, na koncu “Apartman” je nastao u vrijeme kad Hollywood nije smjerno snimao “Christmas movies”. Božićne dekoracije su u podlozi kadra, a u prvom planu blagdanska melankolija koju savršeno, na granici komedije i tragedije, utjelovljuje Lemmon kao usamljeni C.C. Baxter zvani Bud, radnik s 19. kata newyorške osiguravajuće tvrtke.

Ne samo da Baxter nema kome doma poći, djevojci, ženi ili obitelji, nego jedva da ima i dom s obzirom da iznajmljuje svoj “ugodan, nije otmjen, ali zgodan” stan šefovima iz uprave (Ray Walston, Willard Waterman, David White ), uključujući i šefa svih šefova, mr. Sheldrakea (MacMurray), a oni tamo dovode ljubavnice od kojih jedna “izgleda kao Marilyn Monroe”. Baxter to radi u zamjenu za njihovu dobru riječ u kadrovskoj, tj. promaknuće u firmi i(li) povišicu, napredovanje na korporativnoj ljestvici.
”Ne mogu uvijek ući kad hoću”, notira siroti Baxter, čameći na kiši i zimi ispred zgrade kao pas dok čeka da neki od šefova, koji ga iskorištavaju, obave svoje, zbog čega će se razboliti i, takav, pokušati preusmjeriti raspored rentanja stana da ozdravi u vrhunski glumljenoj sceni “slapstick” komedije.
“Čiji je stan?”, u prolazu načujemo pitanje jedne ljubavnice i ponižavajući odgovor “Od neke budale s posla”. Naravno, “neka budala s posla” je Baxter kojeg Wilder geometrijski precizno kadrira samoga u središtu beskrajnog bijelog ureda (kao krajnjoj scenografskoj suprotnosti njegovom malom, mračnom stanu) tako da bi i jedan Kubrick bio mogao biti ljubomoran na “The Apartment”.
Wilder je dobio inspiraciju za film nakon gledanja “Kratkog susreta” Davida Leana s preljubnicima u iznajmljenom stanu muškarčeva prijatelja. Redatelj se sažalio nad čovjekom koji je prisiljen spavati u krevetu ljubavnika nakon njihove preljubničke afere, fokusirao na njegovu tragiku i kreirao Baxtera.
Susjedi, poput dr. Dreyfussa (Jack Kruschen ), misle da je Baxter svojevrsni Casanova, a on sve usamljeniji i jedino živne kad vidi kolegicu iz lifta, gđicu Kubelik u interpretaciji divne, neodoljivo slatke Shirley MacLaine . Draga mu je vrlo, on njoj također. Oboje se razlikuju od svih u zgradi (Baxter jedini skida šešir u dizalu) i stvoreni su jedno za drugo, no postoje komplikacije.

Gđica Kubelik je u preljubničkoj vezi sa Sheldrakeom, koji je dovodi u Baxterov stan i prodaje joj priče da će se razvesti, ali to nikako da napravi. “Kad voliš oženjena muškarca, ne smiješ nositi maskaru”, u jednoj u nizu odlično napisanih rečenica zaključuje Kubelik koja se pita “zašto ljudi uopće moraju voljeti ljude?”.
Baš kao Baxter, gđica Kubelik prihvaća kompromise i pokušava iskoristiti nadređene za svoj probitak i ostvarenje snova (da postane šefova žena, a on zamjenik šefa), ali oboje završavaju iskorišteni. Jer, tako stvari funkcioniraju u (korporativnom) svijetu izvrnutih društvenih i inih vrijednosti, gdje je normalno da je novac jedini motiv i da oženjeni šefovi odvode zaposlenice u krevet i poigravaju se osjećajima žena koje se, poput Kubelik, zaljube u “pogrešnog čovjeka u pogrešno vrijeme i mjesto”.
Cinični Wilder, međutim, kritizira takav šovinistički, seksistički sustav i osuđuje ga davno prije svog vremena, što film iz 1960. čini još uvijek relevantnim i subverzivno vizionarskim kad temeljne (bez)vrijednosti dehumanizirajućeg, bešćutnog sistema poljuljaju humanistički likovi usamljenog zlatnog srca Kubelik i Baxter koji odlučuje da će slušati doktora i postati “mensch”.
Usamljenost je osjetna u filmu režiranom na razmeđi cinizma i humanizma, posvećenom (ne)uzvraćenim ljubavima i tužnim, usamljenim srcima koja kucaju snažnije u melankolično, pa i depresivno blagdansko doba, kad ljudi očajnički pristaju na ljubav za jednu noć samo da ne budu sami, kao u sceni kad Baxteru za šankom pristupi gđa Margie (Hope Holiday ).
Romansa kuca u srcu “Apartmana” i romantično ozračje je opipljivo koliko i melankolično, a suptilne interakcije Lemmona i MacLaine su sjajne. Pa ipak, ako “The Apartment” postavlja neke temelje za buduće rom-comove, poput scene trčanja naglo prosvjetljenog lika na drugi kraj grada, film ne završava bajkovito kako biste očekivali i obrće odnos muškog i ženskog lika u sličnim situacijama. Kartanje umjesto ljubljenja. “Šuti i dijeli” umjesto “I ja tebe volim”.

"Apartman" je bio posljednji crno-bijeli film koji je osvojio glavnog Oscara sve do "Schindlerove list" 33 godine kasnije.
