Tijesan je plakat filma "Amsterdam" da obuhvati sve glumačke zvijezde. Na poster su jedva stala imena Christiana Balea, Margot Robbie, Johna Davida Washingtona, Chrisa Rocka, Anye Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldane, Mikea Myersa, Ramija Maleka, Roberta De Nira, Taylor Swift... A tu su i Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenarts i Allesandro Nivola.

Prijašnja četiri filma redatelja Davida O. Russella ("Boksač", "U dobru i zlu", "Američki varalice", "Joy") također su privlačili poznate face, poput Marka Wahlberga, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence i Bradleyja Coopera, uz Balea i De Nira. No, "Amsterdam" ulazi u udžbenike kao jedan od filmova s najviše zvijezda, nadmašujući casting, na primjer, u nedavnom "Nožu u leđa", prošlogodišnjem "Don‘t Look Up" ili ovogodišnjoj "Smrti na Nilu".

To je najatraktivnija stavka Russellova ostvarenja. Gledatelj se uzbuđeno pita tko će s kime i kako podijeliti kadar, pa makar na nekoliko minuta. Hoće li se, recimo, popularne mlade glumice Robbie i Taylor-Joy naći u isto vrijeme pred kamerom i odmjeriti koja je bolja?

Isto pitanje vrijedi i za prvaka tzv. metodske glume De Nira i njegova dostojnog nasljednika Balea. Zanimljivo, neki su glumci uzbuđeni kao i gledatelji zbog susreta s glumačkim velikanima.

Taylor-Joy kao da ne glumi kad je njezina Libby Voze "neprimjereno uzbuđena" prilikom upoznavanja s De Nirovim generalom Gilom Dillenbeckom. I pjevačica Swift naizgled ne glumi nervozu što nasuprot njoj stoji jedan Bale, a hrabro je pristala glumiti u filmu u kojem njezin lik, Liz Meekins, biva ubrzo gurnut pod kotače kamiona, i to pokreće radnju.

Neki glumci dobro funkcioniraju u duetu, primjerice Myers i Shannon u ulogama britanskih i američkih paravan-špijuna, a neki baš i ne, konkretno Nivola i Schoenaerts kao par detektiva. Takav je i cijeli "Amsterdam", na mahove dobar, na mahove baš i ne, premda nije tolika katastrofa kako bi se dalo zaključiti po nekim stranim kritikama i rezultatima na američkim kinoblagajnama proteklog vikenda.

Ovo je, svakako, jedan od najneujednačenijih recentnih filmova, a zvjezdana ekipa dvosjekli je mač. Glumačka interakcija zvijezda forte je "Amsterdama", ali istovremeno i distrakcija od tonalno neujednačene priče napučene likovima s brojnim tikovima (ispadanje oka, vrtoglavica...) koji su nerijetko otkačeni isključivo otkačenosti radi i ne djeluju kao stvarne osobe, što ne odgovara filmu nadahnutom stvarnim događajima.

Inspiraciju je Russell pronašao u događaju iz tridesetih godina prošlog stoljeća – desničarskom pokušaju svrgavanja američkog predsjednika Franklina D. Roosevelta kako bi umirovljeni general Smedley Butler preuzeo vlast i uspostavio fašističku diktaturu nalik onima u Italiji i Njemačkoj.

U centru tog konspirativnog zapleta naći će se liječnik i odvjetnik Burt Berendsen i Harold Woodman (Bale, Washington), prijatelji i veterani Prvog svjetskog rata, a nakon što ih kontaktira Liz, kći njihova generala Billa Meekinsa (Ed Begley Jr.) koji je umro pod sumnjivim okolnostima. Kad Liz strada, Burt i Harold krivo su optuženi za njezino umorstvo i u bijegu pokušavaju skinuti ljagu sa svojih imena. Harolda i Burta upoznajemo u flashbacku, kao i bolničarku Valerie (Robbie).

S Valerie se obojica sprijateljuju, a Haroldu postaje i nešto više od prijateljice tijekom njihova boravka u postratnom Amsterdamu koji snimatelj, trostruki oskarovac Emmanuel Lubezki ("Gravitacija", "Birdman", "Povratnik"), snima u sepija tonovima, kao i cijeli film. Washington i Robbie su okej, posebice njezin lik koji izrađuje umjetnost od gelera.

Bale rabi metodsku glumu da (pre)uživljeno uđe pod kožu tragikomičnog lika iz neke humoreske braće Coen, možda i Wesa Andersona. Burt je liječnik staklenog oka i razbarušene frizure kakvog bi jedan George Clooney vjerojatno odglumio ležernije i ljudskije, s manje forsirane neobičnosti koja je primjetna u cijelom filmu, najviše u scenama kad likovi zapjevaju "besmislenu pjesmu".

Opet, koliko je Bale odveć discipliniran i u komičnoj ulozi, toliko Russell nije kao redatelj i scenarist. "Amsterdam" je nefokusiran i dugo dvoji što želi biti, "slapstick" komedija iz "zlatnog doba" Hollywooda, drama, humorni coenovski krimić, špijunski triler ili politička alegorija.

Film je sve to pomalo, bolji na razini pojedinih scena nego cjeline, a najzanimljiviji u političkom smislu, s podzapletom u kojem protagonisti sprječavaju fašistički puč nakon što "netko pokušava izvesti nešto mračno i izdajnički". Russell kao da povlači paralele između stvarnih događaja i nedavnog pokušaja svrgavanja demokracije, tj. desničarskog preuzimanja američke vlasti u desantu Trumpovih pristaša.

Tijesan je plakat filma "Amsterdam" da obuhvati sve glumačke zvijezde. Na poster su jedva stala imena Christiana Balea, Margot Robbie, Johna Davida Washingtona, Chrisa Rocka, Anye Taylor-Joy, Zoe Saldane, Mikea Myersa, Ramija Maleka, Roberta De Nira, Taylor Swift... A tu su i Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenarts i Allesandro Nivola.

Prijašnja četiri filma redatelja Davida O. Russella ("Boksač", "U dobru i zlu", "Američki varalice", "Joy") također su privlačili poznate face, poput Marka Wahlberga, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence i Bradleyja Coopera, uz Balea i De Nira. No, "Amsterdam" ulazi u udžbenike kao jedan od filmova s najviše zvijezda, nadmašujući casting, na primjer, u nedavnom "Nožu u leđa", prošlogodišnjem "Don‘t Look Up" ili ovogodišnjoj "Smrti na Nilu".

To je najatraktivnija stavka Russellova ostvarenja. Gledatelj se uzbuđeno pita tko će s kime i kako podijeliti kadar, pa makar na nekoliko minuta. Hoće li se, recimo, popularne mlade glumice Robbie i Taylor-Joy naći u isto vrijeme pred kamerom i odmjeriti koja je bolja?

Isto pitanje vrijedi i za prvaka tzv. metodske glume De Nira i njegova dostojnog nasljednika Balea. Zanimljivo, neki su glumci uzbuđeni kao i gledatelji zbog susreta s glumačkim velikanima.

Taylor-Joy kao da ne glumi kad je njezina Libby Voze "neprimjereno uzbuđena" prilikom upoznavanja s De Nirovim generalom Gilom Dillenbeckom. I pjevačica Swift naizgled ne glumi nervozu što nasuprot njoj stoji jedan Bale, a hrabro je pristala glumiti u filmu u kojem njezin lik, Liz Meekins, biva ubrzo gurnut pod kotače kamiona, i to pokreće radnju.

Neki glumci dobro funkcioniraju u duetu, primjerice Myers i Shannon u ulogama britanskih i američkih paravan-špijuna, a neki baš i ne, konkretno Nivola i Schoenaerts kao par detektiva. Takav je i cijeli "Amsterdam", na mahove dobar, na mahove baš i ne, premda nije tolika katastrofa kako bi se dalo zaključiti po nekim stranim kritikama i rezultatima na američkim kinoblagajnama proteklog vikenda.

Ovo je, svakako, jedan od najneujednačenijih recentnih filmova, a zvjezdana ekipa dvosjekli je mač. Glumačka interakcija zvijezda forte je "Amsterdama", ali istovremeno i distrakcija od tonalno neujednačene priče napučene likovima s brojnim tikovima (ispadanje oka, vrtoglavica...) koji su nerijetko otkačeni isključivo otkačenosti radi i ne djeluju kao stvarne osobe, što ne odgovara filmu nadahnutom stvarnim događajima.

Inspiraciju je Russell pronašao u događaju iz tridesetih godina prošlog stoljeća – desničarskom pokušaju svrgavanja američkog predsjednika Franklina D. Roosevelta kako bi umirovljeni general Smedley Butler preuzeo vlast i uspostavio fašističku diktaturu nalik onima u Italiji i Njemačkoj.

U centru tog konspirativnog zapleta naći će se liječnik i odvjetnik Burt Berendsen i Harold Woodman (Bale, Washington), prijatelji i veterani Prvog svjetskog rata, a nakon što ih kontaktira Liz, kći njihova generala Billa Meekinsa (Ed Begley Jr.) koji je umro pod sumnjivim okolnostima. Kad Liz strada, Burt i Harold krivo su optuženi za njezino umorstvo i u bijegu pokušavaju skinuti ljagu sa svojih imena. Harolda i Burta upoznajemo u flashbacku, kao i bolničarku Valerie (Robbie).

S Valerie se obojica sprijateljuju, a Haroldu postaje i nešto više od prijateljice tijekom njihova boravka u postratnom Amsterdamu koji snimatelj, trostruki oskarovac Emmanuel Lubezki ("Gravitacija", "Birdman", "Povratnik"), snima u sepija tonovima, kao i cijeli film. Washington i Robbie su okej, posebice njezin lik koji izrađuje umjetnost od gelera.

Bale rabi metodsku glumu da (pre)uživljeno uđe pod kožu tragikomičnog lika iz neke humoreske braće Coen, možda i Wesa Andersona. Burt je liječnik staklenog oka i razbarušene frizure kakvog bi jedan George Clooney vjerojatno odglumio ležernije i ljudskije, s manje forsirane neobičnosti koja je primjetna u cijelom filmu, najviše u scenama kad likovi zapjevaju "besmislenu pjesmu".

Opet, koliko je Bale odveć discipliniran i u komičnoj ulozi, toliko Russell nije kao redatelj i scenarist. "Amsterdam" je nefokusiran i dugo dvoji što želi biti, "slapstick" komedija iz "zlatnog doba" Hollywooda, drama, humorni coenovski krimić, špijunski triler ili politička alegorija.

Film je sve to pomalo, bolji na razini pojedinih scena nego cjeline, a najzanimljiviji u političkom smislu, s podzapletom u kojem protagonisti sprječavaju fašistički puč nakon što "netko pokušava izvesti nešto mračno i izdajnički". Russell kao da povlači paralele između stvarnih događaja i nedavnog pokušaja svrgavanja demokracije, tj. desničarskog preuzimanja američke vlasti u desantu Trumpovih pristaša.

Tijesan je plakat filma "Amsterdam" da obuhvati sve glumačke zvijezde.
