Između 1916. i 1970. oko šest milijuna Afroamerikanaca preselilo se iz ruralnih južnih dijelova Amerike na sjeveroistok, srednji zapad i zapad (tzv. "velika migracija").
Mnoge crne obitelji privukla je Kalifornija zbog obećanih poslova i prilike da napuste jug Jima Crowa . Ovo se dogodilo jednoj obitelji za vrijeme deset dana u novom obiteljskom domu...
Uvodni natpis nove Amazonove serije "Them" ili "Oni", premijerno puštene 9. travnja za "bingersko" gledanje svih deset epizoda odjednom, sugerira tip horora kojemu nedvojbeno stremi kreator Little Marvin i njegovi režiseri poput Daniela Stamma ("Posljednji egzorcizam").
Naime, "Them" seli tzv. uzvišeni horor novog milenija ("elevated horror") i na televiziju, među serije, nakon što se ustalio na filmskim festivalima i u kinima kao žanrovska dominanta protekle dekade.
Podsjetimo, to je tip strave i užasa koji otvoreno tipuje biti sociopolitički važan i skrenuti pozornost na neke društvene horore. Marvinova serija "Oni" u tom smislu nasljeđuje superiornije filmove Jordana Peelea "Bježi!" i "Mi", ali i još neka ostvarenja nastala u jeku popularosti "peeleovskog" horora ("Antebellum"), zaključno s odličnim "His House".
Zajedničko filmovima "Get Out", "Us"... i seriji "Them" je tema rasizma, odnosno oslikavanje trauma crnaca u Americi ili drugdje, jučer, danas, moguće i sutra, čega se u formi horora s fantazijskim prefiksom na TV-u dotakao "Lovecraft Country".
Kao i u filmovima "Mi" i "Njegova kuća", ovdje je također u centru pažnje jedna crna obitelj, i to nakon što se pedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća doseli u bijelo, neprijateljski nastrojeno kalifornijsko predgrađe – otac Henry Emory, majka Lucky, tinejdžerska kćerka Ruby i mala Gracie (Ashley Thomas, Deborah Ayorinde, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Melody Hurd ).

Serija počinje majčinim košmarom i pokušava zadržati košmarnu atmosferu kroz deset neujednačenih epizoda kad se zavrti u krugu repeticije.
"Them" je imao potencijal biti sjajna stvar, ali inzistiranje na visokom broju epizoda lišava priču kompaktnosti filmskih uzora s kojima je hororski "au pair", ponekad i brutalniji, zbog čega se svaka epizoda otvara uz upozorenje na "nasilje prema manjini".
Neovisno o tome, serija zavrjeđuje da se pogleda, tematski je relevantna, žanrovski i režijski prilično umješna, s dosta stila, od uporabe podijeljenih ekrana do cijele jedne epizode snimljene u c/b tehnici koja pokazuje odakle seže "prokletstvo" i slaže se s ranijim simboličnim prizorom Rubyne crne ruke (potom i cijelog tijela) natopljene bijelom bojom.
Svakog člana obitelji proganjaju nekakve prikaze, od lika nalik crnom "klaunu" i nekakvog čovjeka sa šeširom, do gospođe Vere, kao preslik prošle ili sadašnje traume dok ih provociraju susjedi predvođeni Betty (uživljena Allison Pill ) ili vršnjaci u školi.
Njihove halucinacije i vizije su najdojmljivije uprizorene, nerijetko i u formi klasičnih "bu" scena iz košmara kakve je sanjao Peele u "Us" na temu konflikta dviju Amerika, prošle i sadašnje, crne i bijele.
"Oni" se nekako najviše slažu s "Mi", tvoreći smetrični naslov "Us + Them" na "rogerwaterovski" način.

Između 1916. i 1970. oko šest milijuna Afroamerikanaca preselilo se iz ruralnih južnih dijelova Amerike na sjeveroistok, srednji zapad i zapad (tzv. "velika migracija").
Mnoge crne obitelji privukla je Kalifornija zbog obećanih poslova i prilike da napuste jug Jima Crowa . Ovo se dogodilo jednoj obitelji za vrijeme deset dana u novom obiteljskom domu...
Uvodni natpis nove Amazonove serije "Them" ili "Oni", premijerno puštene 9. travnja za "bingersko" gledanje svih deset epizoda odjednom, sugerira tip horora kojemu nedvojbeno stremi kreator Little Marvin i njegovi režiseri poput Daniela Stamma ("Posljednji egzorcizam").
Naime, "Them" seli tzv. uzvišeni horor novog milenija ("elevated horror") i na televiziju, među serije, nakon što se ustalio na filmskim festivalima i u kinima kao žanrovska dominanta protekle dekade.
Podsjetimo, to je tip strave i užasa koji otvoreno tipuje biti sociopolitički važan i skrenuti pozornost na neke društvene horore. Marvinova serija "Oni" u tom smislu nasljeđuje superiornije filmove Jordana Peelea "Bježi!" i "Mi", ali i još neka ostvarenja nastala u jeku popularosti "peeleovskog" horora ("Antebellum"), zaključno s odličnim "His House".
Zajedničko filmovima "Get Out", "Us"... i seriji "Them" je tema rasizma, odnosno oslikavanje trauma crnaca u Americi ili drugdje, jučer, danas, moguće i sutra, čega se u formi horora s fantazijskim prefiksom na TV-u dotakao "Lovecraft Country".
Kao i u filmovima "Mi" i "Njegova kuća", ovdje je također u centru pažnje jedna crna obitelj, i to nakon što se pedesetih godina prošlog stoljeća doseli u bijelo, neprijateljski nastrojeno kalifornijsko predgrađe – otac Henry Emory, majka Lucky, tinejdžerska kćerka Ruby i mala Gracie (Ashley Thomas, Deborah Ayorinde, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Melody Hurd ).

Serija počinje majčinim košmarom i pokušava zadržati košmarnu atmosferu kroz deset neujednačenih epizoda kad se zavrti u krugu repeticije.
"Them" je imao potencijal biti sjajna stvar, ali inzistiranje na visokom broju epizoda lišava priču kompaktnosti filmskih uzora s kojima je hororski "au pair", ponekad i brutalniji, zbog čega se svaka epizoda otvara uz upozorenje na "nasilje prema manjini".
Neovisno o tome, serija zavrjeđuje da se pogleda, tematski je relevantna, žanrovski i režijski prilično umješna, s dosta stila, od uporabe podijeljenih ekrana do cijele jedne epizode snimljene u c/b tehnici koja pokazuje odakle seže "prokletstvo" i slaže se s ranijim simboličnim prizorom Rubyne crne ruke (potom i cijelog tijela) natopljene bijelom bojom.
Svakog člana obitelji proganjaju nekakve prikaze, od lika nalik crnom "klaunu" i nekakvog čovjeka sa šeširom, do gospođe Vere, kao preslik prošle ili sadašnje traume dok ih provociraju susjedi predvođeni Betty (uživljena Allison Pill ) ili vršnjaci u školi.
Njihove halucinacije i vizije su najdojmljivije uprizorene, nerijetko i u formi klasičnih "bu" scena iz košmara kakve je sanjao Peele u "Us" na temu konflikta dviju Amerika, prošle i sadašnje, crne i bijele.
"Oni" se nekako najviše slažu s "Mi", tvoreći smetrični naslov "Us + Them" na "rogerwaterovski" način.
