Svemirska utrka, barem ona u privatnom sektoru na relaciji Branson-Bezos, dosegla je kulminaciju. Naime, upravo bi se danas na izazovan put trebao otisnuti britanski milijarder Richard Branson, i to na VSS Unityju, proizvodu njegove kompanije Virgin Galactic Holding Inc (SPCE.N). Osim njega, na put kreće još pet osoba. Na visini od 89 kilometara iznad pustinje u Novom Meksiku on i ostatak ekipe iskusit će nekoliko minuta bestežinskog stanja, a zatim se vratiti na Zemlju. Ako sve prođe dobro, let će trajati oko 90 minuta i završiti na pisti u Spaceportu America.

To će biti 22. testni let u sklopu Bransonova svemirskog projekta, tek četvrti s posadom te prvi s punim sastavom predviđenih svemirskih putnika. Branson navodno ima jednu zadaću - evaluirati privatno iskustvo astronauta na njegovim letovima s ciljem poboljšanja putničkog iskustva za buduće korisnike. Naravno, tu je i "reklamni moment" - privući buduće putnike tako što će na vlastitoj koži dokazati da je let potpuno siguran.

Unatoč općem optimizmu, jer Branson navodno planira gledati finale Europskog prvenstva između Engleske i Italije, podvig, prvotno najavljen za 15 sati po hrvatskom vremenu da bi zbog loših vremenskih uvjeta bio odgođen za 16:30, nije bez opasnosti. Testiranje jednog od prethodnih prototipova Virgin Galactica završilo je sa smrtnim ishodom. No, ako uspije, bit će to svojevrsni udarac njegovu rivalu Jeffu Bezosu, osnivaču Amazona, koji bi se u svojoj izvedbi letjelice - New Shepardu na kojem radi njegova kompanija Blue Origin - trebao vinuti u svemir 20. srpnja.

Branson negira da se radi o utrci. "Ako je utrka, onda je utrka u proizvodnji predivnih svemirskih letjelica koje će mnogim drugim ljudima omogućiti da se domognu svemira. Mislim da nam je obojici to cilj", rekao je Branson. Bezos se možda ne bi složio. Naime, u njegovoj su se kompaniji posljednjih nekoliko dana trudili objasniti ljudima gdje točno počinje svemir, naglašavajući da njihova raketa ide dalje od Virginove, što su neki protumačili kao Bezosovu ljutnju jer ga je Branson preduhitrio. Naime, u toj konstelaciji milijardera Bezos je prvi trebao poletjeti u svemir. Njegov je let i dalje zakazan za 20. srpnja. No, 1. srpnja se oglasio Branson i najavio da će on u svemir ipak 11. srpnja, dakle devet dana prije Bezosa.

Ako sad sve prođe dobro, Virgin će ove godine izvesti još dva testna leta, a zatim iduće godine i u potpunosti komercijalno zaživjeti. Navodno već imaju, kako tvrde, najmanje 600 rezervacija, a cijena se trenutačno kreće od 250 do 400 tisuća dolara. Jednoga dana let bi po osobi trebao stajati "samo" 40 tisuća dolara. U 2023. godini planiraju 100 letova.

Što se tiče Blue Origina, Bezosova letjelica bit će lansirana na godišnjicu prvog slijetanja na Mjesec 1969. godine. Raketa nosi ime po Alanu Shepardu, prvom Amerikancu u svemiru. Bezos i njegova ekipa, u kojoj je i misteriozni putnik koji si je kartu za svemir kupio na aukciji za vrtoglavih 28 milijuna dolara, na visini od 100 kilometara provest će četiri minute. To će biti prvo lansiranje te letjelice s ljudskom posadom.

Kad je riječ o svemirskoj utrci, osim Virgin Galactica i Blue Origina, ne smije se nikako zaboraviti SpaceX Elona Muska. "Želim ti sve najbolje", poručio je Musk Bransonu na Twitteru.

To će biti 22. testni let u sklopu Bransonova svemirskog projekta, tek četvrti s posadom te prvi s punim sastavom predviđenih svemirskih putnika. Branson navodno ima jednu zadaću - evaluirati privatno iskustvo astronauta na njegovim letovima s ciljem poboljšanja putničkog iskustva za buduće korisnike. Naravno, tu je i "reklamni moment" - privući buduće putnike tako što će na vlastitoj koži dokazati da je let potpuno siguran.

Unatoč općem optimizmu, jer Branson navodno planira gledati finale Europskog prvenstva između Engleske i Italije, podvig, prvotno najavljen za 15 sati po hrvatskom vremenu da bi zbog loših vremenskih uvjeta bio odgođen za 16:30, nije bez opasnosti. Testiranje jednog od prethodnih prototipova Virgin Galactica završilo je sa smrtnim ishodom. No, ako uspije, bit će to svojevrsni udarac njegovu rivalu Jeffu Bezosu, osnivaču Amazona, koji bi se u svojoj izvedbi letjelice - New Shepardu na kojem radi njegova kompanija Blue Origin - trebao vinuti u svemir 20. srpnja.

Branson negira da se radi o utrci. "Ako je utrka, onda je utrka u proizvodnji predivnih svemirskih letjelica koje će mnogim drugim ljudima omogućiti da se domognu svemira. Mislim da nam je obojici to cilj", rekao je Branson. Bezos se možda ne bi složio. Naime, u njegovoj su se kompaniji posljednjih nekoliko dana trudili objasniti ljudima gdje točno počinje svemir, naglašavajući da njihova raketa ide dalje od Virginove, što su neki protumačili kao Bezosovu ljutnju jer ga je Branson preduhitrio. Naime, u toj konstelaciji milijardera Bezos je prvi trebao poletjeti u svemir. Njegov je let i dalje zakazan za 20. srpnja. No, 1. srpnja se oglasio Branson i najavio da će on u svemir ipak 11. srpnja, dakle devet dana prije Bezosa.

Ako sad sve prođe dobro, Virgin će ove godine izvesti još dva testna leta, a zatim iduće godine i u potpunosti komercijalno zaživjeti. Navodno već imaju, kako tvrde, najmanje 600 rezervacija, a cijena se trenutačno kreće od 250 do 400 tisuća dolara. Jednoga dana let bi po osobi trebao stajati "samo" 40 tisuća dolara. Što se tiče Blue Origina, Bezosova letjelica bit će lansirana na godišnjicu prvog slijetanja na Mjesec 1969. godine. Raketa nosi ime po Alanu Shepardu, prvom Amerikancu u svemiru. Bezos i njegova ekipa, u kojoj je i misteriozni putnik koji si je kartu za svemir kupio na aukciji za vrtoglavih 28 milijuna dolara, na visini od 100 kilometara provest će četiri minute. To će biti prvo lansiranje te letjelice s ljudskom posadom.

Kad je riječ o svemirskoj utrci, osim Virgin Galactica i Blue Origina, ne smije se nikako zaboraviti SpaceX Elona Muska. "Želim ti sve najbolje", poručio je Musk Bransonu na Twitteru.
