Bivši američki veleposlanik u Boliviji optužen je da je desetljećima radio kao tajni agent za Kubu.

Riječ je o Victoru Manuelu Rochi (73), koji je Ameriku u svojim razgovorima nazivao "neprijateljem" dok je radio, kako je rekao, za "jačanje revolucije". I sve to još od 1981. godine.

Njegova posljednja veleposlanička pozicija bila je u Boliviji, međutim Rocha je iskusni diplomat koji je američku vladu predstavljao na raznim položajima u Argentini, Hondurasu, Meksiku i Dominikanskoj Republici. Bio je i član Nacionalnog vijeća sigurnosti - piše Jutarnji list.

Yale i Harvard

U Boliviji je bio od 1999. do 2002. godine. "Preko 40 godina bio je kubanski agent, a njegova diplomatska karijera omogućila mu je pristup nejavnim podacima i mogućnost utjecaja na vanjsku politiku", naveli su američki tužitelji u optužnici.

Prema riječima javnog odvjetnika Merricka Garlanda, Rochin slučaj predstavlja najdugotrajniju i najviše pozicioniranu infiltraciju stranih agenata u američku vladu.

Rocha je uhićen u petak u Miamiju, nakon što je godinu dana bio pod istragom i pratnjom. Rocha je rođen u Kolumbiji, a odrastao je u New Yorku, gdje je pohađao prestižna sveučilišta Yale, Harvard i Georgetown.

Prema sudskim dokumentima, otpečaćenim za javnost u ponedjeljak, Rocha je nekoliko puta putovao na Kubu od 1981. do danas.

U studenome 2022. tajni agent FBI-ja kontaktirao je Rochu putem WhatsAppa predstavljajući se kao predstavnik kubanske obavještajne službe.

Rochi je rekao da ima poruku od "prijatelja iz Havane". Rocha se pristao s agentom sastati nekoliko puta, a jednom je tražio da se sretnu na specifičnom mjestu navodeći da ga "tamo sigurno nitko neće vidjeti".

Tijekom tri sastanka s tajnim agentom Rocha je ispričao mnoge pojedinosti o svojem radu za kubansku vladu. "Točno sam znao što raditi, a kubanska agencija me je podržavala... To je dug proces i nije lagan", kazao je agentu.

Rocha je stalno govorio o radu za Kubu kao o "našem radu", a spominjao je i želju da zaštiti sve dotad postignuto.

Kada ga je tajni agent upitao je li još s njima, Rocha je odgovorio da ga to pitanje ljuti. "To je kao da mi postavljaš pitanje o tome jesam li muškarac", rekao je.

Rušenje malih aviona

Rocha je u razgovorima sebe imenovao kao šefa u doba rušenja malih aviona.

Prema tužiteljskim spisima, to se odnosi na kubansko rušenje dvaju nenaoružanih aviona organizacije Braća za pomoć, a usmjerena je protiv Fidela Castra i njegove obitelji.

U nesreći je poginulo četvero ljudi, a sve se dogodilo 1996., kada je radio u Havani.

Bivši američki veleposlanik u Boliviji optužen je da je desetljećima radio kao tajni agent za Kubu.

Riječ je o Victoru Manuelu Rochi (73), koji je Ameriku u svojim razgovorima nazivao "neprijateljem" dok je radio, kako je rekao, za "jačanje revolucije". I sve to još od 1981. godine.

Njegova posljednja veleposlanička pozicija bila je u Boliviji, međutim Rocha je iskusni diplomat koji je američku vladu predstavljao na raznim položajima u Argentini, Hondurasu, Meksiku i Dominikanskoj Republici. Bio je i član Nacionalnog vijeća sigurnosti - piše Jutarnji list.

Yale i Harvard

U Boliviji je bio od 1999. do 2002. godine. "Preko 40 godina bio je kubanski agent, a njegova diplomatska karijera omogućila mu je pristup nejavnim podacima i mogućnost utjecaja na vanjsku politiku", naveli su američki tužitelji u optužnici.

Prema riječima javnog odvjetnika Merricka Garlanda, Rochin slučaj predstavlja najdugotrajniju i najviše pozicioniranu infiltraciju stranih agenata u američku vladu.

Rocha je uhićen u petak u Miamiju, nakon što je godinu dana bio pod istragom i pratnjom. Rocha je rođen u Kolumbiji, a odrastao je u New Yorku, gdje je pohađao prestižna sveučilišta Yale, Harvard i Georgetown.

Prema sudskim dokumentima, otpečaćenim za javnost u ponedjeljak, Rocha je nekoliko puta putovao na Kubu od 1981. do danas.

U studenome 2022. tajni agent FBI-ja kontaktirao je Rochu putem WhatsAppa predstavljajući se kao predstavnik kubanske obavještajne službe.

Rochi je rekao da ima poruku od "prijatelja iz Havane". Rocha se pristao s agentom sastati nekoliko puta, a jednom je tražio da se sretnu na specifičnom mjestu navodeći da ga "tamo sigurno nitko neće vidjeti".

Tijekom tri sastanka s tajnim agentom Rocha je ispričao mnoge pojedinosti o svojem radu za kubansku vladu. "Točno sam znao što raditi, a kubanska agencija me je podržavala... To je dug proces i nije lagan", kazao je agentu.

Rocha je stalno govorio o radu za Kubu kao o "našem radu", a spominjao je i želju da zaštiti sve dotad postignuto.

Kada ga je tajni agent upitao je li još s njima, Rocha je odgovorio da ga to pitanje ljuti. "To je kao da mi postavljaš pitanje o tome jesam li muškarac", rekao je.

Rušenje malih aviona

Rocha je u razgovorima sebe imenovao kao šefa u doba rušenja malih aviona.

Prema tužiteljskim spisima, to se odnosi na kubansko rušenje dvaju nenaoružanih aviona organizacije Braća za pomoć, a usmjerena je protiv Fidela Castra i njegove obitelji.

U nesreći je poginulo četvero ljudi, a sve se dogodilo 1996., kada je radio u Havani.
