Sjeverna Irska udaljena je tisućama milja od Bliskog istoka, ali znaci tamošnjeg sukoba mogu se vidjeti na ulicama britanske pokrajine.

Palestinske i izraelske zastave vijore se u proirskim i probritanskim četvrtima u Sjevernoj Irskoj, podsjećajući na vlastitu povijest sukoba i podjela koje još uvijek utječu na svakodnevni život unatoč mirovnom sporazumu iz 1998.

Zastave, grafiti i murali pokazuju potporu Palestincima ili Izraelu, ovisno o tome na kojoj se strani podjele nalaze.

Na Falls Roadu, glavnoj arteriji u većinski proirskim zapadnim četvrtima Belfasta, Pat Sheehan, zastupnik Sinna Feina, bivšeg političkog krila IRA-e, objasnio je da lokalno stanovništvo osjeća empatiju prema Palestincima.

"Ako postoji neka nacija koja može razumjeti poteškoće s kojima sada žive Palestinci, to su Irci", rekao je Sheehan za AFP ispred svježe oslikanog propalestinskog murala.

Sheehan je na svečanosti prije dva tjedna otkrio mural na kojem je ispisano "Slobodna Palestina" sa stisnutom šakom u palestinskim i irskim bojama.

"Irska je 800 godina patila u kolonijalno okupaciji, bilo je mnogo oružanih ustanaka protiv britanske vladavine, a vidimo kako Palestinci pate u sličnoj situaciji", dodao je.

Palestinske zastave već se dugo vijore u prorepublikanskim područjima, no njihov je broj posljednjih tjedana dramatično porastao.

Suočavanje s terorizmom

U blizini takozvane linije mira, jedne od mnogih prepreka od betona i metala koje dijele četvrti Belfasta čak i 25 godina nakon mirovnog sporazuma, probritansko područje Shankill Road sada krase izraelske zastave.

Brian Kingston, zastupnik najveće probritanske stranke DUP-a rekao je da unionistička zajednica dugo godina razumije izraelski cilj.

"Vidimo da je Izrael godiama užasno patio od terorizma baš kao i mi", rekao je Kingston, koji je svojedobno bio i belfastski gradonačelnik.

Ranije tog dana, Kingston je prisustvovao obilježavanju 30. godišnjice bombaškog napada IRA-e na prodavaonicu ribe i krumpirića na Shankill Roadu u kojem je poginulo devet ljudi.

"IRA i PLO (Palestinska oslobodilačka organizacija) surađivali su u međunarodnom terorizmu", rekao je.

PLO je osnovan 1964. godine i njegovo vojno krilo teroriziralo je Izraelce prije nego što su dvije strane potpisale mirovni sporazum 1993. godine.

Biranje strana

Ronit Berger Hobson, rođena Izraelka i profesorica na Kraljičinom sveučilištu u Belfastu, rekla je da je počela istraživati mirovni proces u Sjevernoj Irskoj kako bi naučila kako bi se on potencijalno mogao primijeniti na izraelsko-palestinski sukob.

Hobson je rekla da sjevernoirsko iskazivanje solidarnosti vjerojatno proizlazi iz uglavnom pogrešnog povlačenja paralela sa sukobom između Izraela i Palestinaca.

"Sukobi su daleko kompliciraniji. Baš kao što ovaj ovdje seže stoljećima unatrag, tako je i u onom između Izraelaca i Palestinaca, ali na vrlo različite načine."

Palestinske i izraelske zastave vijore se u proirskim i probritanskim četvrtima u Sjevernoj Irskoj, podsjećajući na vlastitu povijest sukoba i podjela koje još uvijek utječu na svakodnevni život unatoč mirovnom sporazumu iz 1998.

Zastave, grafiti i murali pokazuju potporu Palestincima ili Izraelu, ovisno o tome na kojoj se strani podjele nalaze.

Na Falls Roadu, glavnoj arteriji u većinski proirskim zapadnim četvrtima Belfasta, Pat Sheehan, zastupnik Sinna Feina, bivšeg političkog krila IRA-e, objasnio je da lokalno stanovništvo osjeća empatiju prema Palestincima.

"Ako postoji neka nacija koja može razumjeti poteškoće s kojima sada žive Palestinci, to su Irci", rekao je Sheehan za AFP ispred svježe oslikanog propalestinskog murala.

Sheehan je na svečanosti prije dva tjedna otkrio mural na kojem je ispisano "Slobodna Palestina" sa stisnutom šakom u palestinskim i irskim bojama.

"Irska je 800 godina patila u kolonijalno okupaciji, bilo je mnogo oružanih ustanaka protiv britanske vladavine, a vidimo kako Palestinci pate u sličnoj situaciji", dodao je.

Palestinske zastave već se dugo vijore u prorepublikanskim područjima, no njihov je broj posljednjih tjedana dramatično porastao.

Suočavanje s terorizmom

U blizini takozvane linije mira, jedne od mnogih prepreka od betona i metala koje dijele četvrti Belfasta čak i 25 godina nakon mirovnog sporazuma, probritansko područje Shankill Road sada krase izraelske zastave.

Brian Kingston, zastupnik najveće probritanske stranke DUP-a rekao je da unionistička zajednica dugo godina razumije izraelski cilj.

"Vidimo da je Izrael godiama užasno patio od terorizma baš kao i mi", rekao je Kingston, koji je svojedobno bio i belfastski gradonačelnik.

Ranije tog dana, Kingston je prisustvovao obilježavanju 30. godišnjice bombaškog napada IRA-e na prodavaonicu ribe i krumpirića na Shankill Roadu u kojem je poginulo devet ljudi.

"IRA i PLO (Palestinska oslobodilačka organizacija) surađivali su u međunarodnom terorizmu", rekao je.

PLO je osnovan 1964. godine i njegovo vojno krilo teroriziralo je Izraelce prije nego što su dvije strane potpisale mirovni sporazum 1993. godine.

Ronit Berger Hobson, rođena Izraelka i profesorica na Kraljičinom sveučilištu u Belfastu, rekla je da je počela istraživati mirovni proces u Sjevernoj Irskoj kako bi naučila kako bi se on potencijalno mogao primijeniti na izraelsko-palestinski sukob.

Hobson je rekla da sjevernoirsko iskazivanje solidarnosti vjerojatno proizlazi iz uglavnom pogrešnog povlačenja paralela sa sukobom između Izraela i Palestinaca.

"Sukobi su daleko kompliciraniji. Baš kao što ovaj ovdje seže stoljećima unatrag, tako je i u onom između Izraelaca i Palestinaca, ali na vrlo različite načine."
