Pomelo je najveće citrusno voće, plod je velik poput dinje, pa i veći. Potječe iz Azije i glavni je predak grejpa na koji podsjeća okusom, ali je slađi.

Odličan je izvor vitamina C, a kao što je poznato, ovaj vitamin je snažan antioksidant koji pomaže spriječiti stanična oštećenja izazvana djelovanjem slobodnih radikala. Pomelo je bogat još nekim vitaminima, spomenimo vitamine B1 i B2, te mineralima, kao što su bakar i kalij, piše Živim.

Dobar za probavu

Obično se preporučuje pojesti najmanje 25 grama vlakana na dan. Jedan pomelo sadrži šest grama. Vjerojatno nećete pojesti baš cijeli plod odjednom, ali dobro je znati da je osobito bogat netopivim vlaknima koja dodaju volumen stolici, pa su dobra za prevenciju zatvora. Prehrambena vlakna su i hrana za „dobre” bakterije koje žive u našim crijevima.

Vlakna iz voća povezuju se s poboljšanjem gustoće kostiju, dugotrajnim održavanjem optimalne tjelesne težine, boljim zdravljem crijeva i mozga te smanjenim rizikom od nekih kroničnih bolesti.

Uz vlakna, pomelo sadrži i proteine, a oba ova nutrijenta pomažu da se dulje osjećamo sitima, što dovodi do smanjenja ukupnog kalorijskog unosa. Oguljeni pomelo, težak oko 600 grama, sadrži oko 230 kalorija, što je relativno malo za toliku količinu hrane.

Pomelo se može pohvaliti obiljem antioksidanata koji pomažu spriječiti, pa i poništiti štetu nastalu djelovanjem slobodnih radikala. Kad se nakupe u tijelu u većoj količini ti nestabilni spojevi mogu dovesti do razvoja kroničnih bolesti. Osim obilja vitamina C, pomelo sadrži još neke važne antioksidante, primjerice, naringenin i naringin, flavonoide uobičajene u agrumima, a u sastavu mu je i likopen, antioksidant obilno zastupljen u rajčicama.

Popravlja srčano zdravlje

Pomelo može utjecati na sniženje razina kolesterola i triglicerida u krvi, masnoća povezanih sa srčanim bolestima. U trotjednoj studiji u kojoj su štakori dobivali koncentrirani ekstrakt pomela, razina triglicerida snižena im je 21 posto, ukupnog kolesterola do šest posto, a LDL (tzv. lošeg) kolesterola i do 41 posto. Druga je studija otkrila da pomelo može sniziti masnoće u krvi sprečavajući tijelo da u potpunosti apsorbira kolesterol iz hrane.

Potreban je oprez! Tko uzima statine trebao bi izbjegavati jesti pomelo, jer to voće, baš kao i grejp, sadrži furanokumarine, spojeve koji mogu utjecati na metabolizam statina.

Borba protiv raka

Pomelo bi mogao biti od pomoći u ubijanju stanica raka i sprečavanju njihovog širenja. Studija na miševima pokazala je da ekstrakt kore pomela potiskuje rast tumora, podržava imunosni sustav i ubija stanice raka. Slično istraživanje bavilo se uništavanjem stanica raka kože na miševima pomoću ekstrakta listova pomela. Nadalje, na laboratorijskim se testovima pokazalo da spomenuti antioksidant naringenin ubija stanice raka prostate i gušterače te da usporava širenje raka pluća.

Kako ga jesti

Prije jela pomelo treba oguliti, a to se radi kao i s narančom - odrežite zamišljeni vrh voća, a potom nožem napravite nekoliko ureza u kori, od vrha do dna ploda. Sada jednostavno ogulite koru, dio po dio. Kao i ostalo citrusno voće i pomelo je bijelom membranom podijeljen na režnjeve koji se lako odvajaju.

Pomelo je najveće citrusno voće, plod je velik poput dinje, pa i veći. Potječe iz Azije i glavni je predak grejpa na koji podsjeća okusom, ali je slađi.

Odličan je izvor vitamina C, a kao što je poznato, ovaj vitamin je snažan antioksidant koji pomaže spriječiti stanična oštećenja izazvana djelovanjem slobodnih radikala. Pomelo je bogat još nekim vitaminima, spomenimo vitamine B1 i B2, te mineralima, kao što su bakar i kalij, piše Živim.

Dobar za probavu

Obično se preporučuje pojesti najmanje 25 grama vlakana na dan. Jedan pomelo sadrži šest grama. Vjerojatno nećete pojesti baš cijeli plod odjednom, ali dobro je znati da je osobito bogat netopivim vlaknima koja dodaju volumen stolici, pa su dobra za prevenciju zatvora. Prehrambena vlakna su i hrana za „dobre” bakterije koje žive u našim crijevima.

Vlakna iz voća povezuju se s poboljšanjem gustoće kostiju, dugotrajnim održavanjem optimalne tjelesne težine, boljim zdravljem crijeva i mozga te smanjenim rizikom od nekih kroničnih bolesti.

Uz vlakna, pomelo sadrži i proteine, a oba ova nutrijenta pomažu da se dulje osjećamo sitima, što dovodi do smanjenja ukupnog kalorijskog unosa. Oguljeni pomelo, težak oko 600 grama, sadrži oko 230 kalorija, što je relativno malo za toliku količinu hrane.

Pomelo se može pohvaliti obiljem antioksidanata koji pomažu spriječiti, pa i poništiti štetu nastalu djelovanjem slobodnih radikala. Kad se nakupe u tijelu u većoj količini ti nestabilni spojevi mogu dovesti do razvoja kroničnih bolesti. Osim obilja vitamina C, pomelo sadrži još neke važne antioksidante, primjerice, naringenin i naringin, flavonoide uobičajene u agrumima, a u sastavu mu je i likopen, antioksidant obilno zastupljen u rajčicama.

Popravlja srčano zdravlje

Pomelo može utjecati na sniženje razina kolesterola i triglicerida u krvi, masnoća povezanih sa srčanim bolestima. U trotjednoj studiji u kojoj su štakori dobivali koncentrirani ekstrakt pomela, razina triglicerida snižena im je 21 posto, ukupnog kolesterola do šest posto, a LDL (tzv. lošeg) kolesterola i do 41 posto. Druga je studija otkrila da pomelo može sniziti masnoće u krvi sprečavajući tijelo da u potpunosti apsorbira kolesterol iz hrane.

Potreban je oprez! Tko uzima statine trebao bi izbjegavati jesti pomelo, jer to voće, baš kao i grejp, sadrži furanokumarine, spojeve koji mogu utjecati na metabolizam statina.

Borba protiv raka

Pomelo bi mogao biti od pomoći u ubijanju stanica raka i sprečavanju njihovog širenja. Studija na miševima pokazala je da ekstrakt kore pomela potiskuje rast tumora, podržava imunosni sustav i ubija stanice raka. Slično istraživanje bavilo se uništavanjem stanica raka kože na miševima pomoću ekstrakta listova pomela. Nadalje, na laboratorijskim se testovima pokazalo da spomenuti antioksidant naringenin ubija stanice raka prostate i gušterače te da usporava širenje raka pluća.

Kako ga jesti

Prije jela pomelo treba oguliti, a to se radi kao i s narančom - odrežite zamišljeni vrh voća, a potom nožem napravite nekoliko ureza u kori, od vrha do dna ploda. Sada jednostavno ogulite koru, dio po dio. Kao i ostalo citrusno voće i pomelo je bijelom membranom podijeljen na režnjeve koji se lako odvajaju.
