Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. U studenom 2020. čudan val pojavio se iz vedra neba, podižući usamljenu plutaču s obale Britanske Kolumbije na 17,6 metara. Četverokatni vodeni zid konačno je potvrđen u veljači 2022. kao najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen u to vrijeme.

Smatra se da se takav izniman događaj događa samo jednom u 1.300 godina. I da nije bilo plutače, možda nikada ne bismo ni saznali da se to uopće dogodilo, piše Science Alert, a prenosi poslovni.hr.

Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. Tek je 1995. mit postao činjenica. Prvog dana nove godine, gotovo 26 metara visok val iznenada je udario u platformu za bušenje nafte otprilike 160 kilometara od obale Norveške. U to vrijeme, takozvani Draupnerov val prkosio je svim prethodnim modelima koje su znanstvenici sastavili.

Od tada su zabilježeni još deseci lažnih valova (neki čak i u jezerima), i dok ovaj posljednji Ucluelet val nije bio najviši, njegova relativna veličina u usporedbi s valovima oko njega bila je bez presedana.

Znanstvenici definiraju lažni val kao bilo koji val koji je dvostruko viši od valova koji ga okružuju. Draupnerov val, primjerice, bio je visok 25,6 metara, dok su njegovi susjedi bili visoki samo 12 metara.

"Proporcionalno, Ucluelet val je vjerojatno najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen", objasnio je fizičar Johannes Gemmrich sa Sveučilišta Victoria 2022. godine.

"Izravno je opaženo samo nekoliko lažnih valova na otvorenom moru, a ništa ove veličine", dodao je.

Danas istraživači još uvijek pokušavaju otkriti kako nastaju lažni valovi kako bismo mogli bolje predvidjeti kada će se pojaviti. To uključuje mjerenje lažnih valova u stvarnom vremenu i također pokretanje modela na način na koji ih vjetar diže.

Plutača koja je pokupila val Ucluelet postavljena je na pučinu zajedno s desecima drugih od strane istraživačkog instituta pod nazivom MarineLabs u pokušaju da sazna više o opasnostima u dubinama.

Čak i kada se čudni valovi pojave daleko od obale, oni i dalje mogu uništiti pomorske operacije, vjetroelektrane ili naftne platforme. Ako su dovoljno velike, mogu ugroziti i živote kupača. Srećom, ni Ucluelet ni Draupner nisu prouzročili ozbiljnu štetu niti odnijeli živote, ali drugi skitnički valovi jesu.

Za neke brodove koji su nestali 1970-ih, primjerice, sada se smatra da su ih potopili iznenadni, prijeteći valovi. Ostaci plutajuće olupine izgledaju kao djelo goleme bijele kape.

Nažalost, studija iz 2020. predvidjela je da će se visine valova u sjevernom Pacifiku povećati s klimatskim promjenama, što sugerira da val Ucluelet možda neće zadržati svoj rekord toliko dugo koliko sugeriraju naša trenutna predviđanja.

"Cilj nam je poboljšati sigurnost i donošenje odluka za pomorske operacije i obalne zajednice kroz široko rasprostranjeno mjerenje svjetskih obala", rekao je izvršni direktor MarineLabsa Scott Beatty.

"Snimanje ovog vala koji se događa jednom u tisućljeću, upravo u našem dvorištu, uzbudljiv je pokazatelj moći obalne inteligencije da transformira morsku sigurnost."

Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. U studenom 2020. čudan val pojavio se iz vedra neba, podižući usamljenu plutaču s obale Britanske Kolumbije na 17,6 metara. Četverokatni vodeni zid konačno je potvrđen u veljači 2022. kao najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen u to vrijeme.

Smatra se da se takav izniman događaj događa samo jednom u 1.300 godina. I da nije bilo plutače, možda nikada ne bismo ni saznali da se to uopće dogodilo, piše Science Alert, a prenosi poslovni.hr.

Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. Tek je 1995. mit postao činjenica. Prvog dana nove godine, gotovo 26 metara visok val iznenada je udario u platformu za bušenje nafte otprilike 160 kilometara od obale Norveške. U to vrijeme, takozvani Draupnerov val prkosio je svim prethodnim modelima koje su znanstvenici sastavili.

Od tada su zabilježeni još deseci lažnih valova (neki čak i u jezerima), i dok ovaj posljednji Ucluelet val nije bio najviši, njegova relativna veličina u usporedbi s valovima oko njega bila je bez presedana.

Znanstvenici definiraju lažni val kao bilo koji val koji je dvostruko viši od valova koji ga okružuju. Draupnerov val, primjerice, bio je visok 25,6 metara, dok su njegovi susjedi bili visoki samo 12 metara.

"Proporcionalno, Ucluelet val je vjerojatno najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen", objasnio je fizičar Johannes Gemmrich sa Sveučilišta Victoria 2022. godine.

"Izravno je opaženo samo nekoliko lažnih valova na otvorenom moru, a ništa ove veličine", dodao je.

Danas istraživači još uvijek pokušavaju otkriti kako nastaju lažni valovi kako bismo mogli bolje predvidjeti kada će se pojaviti. To uključuje mjerenje lažnih valova u stvarnom vremenu i također pokretanje modela na način na koji ih vjetar diže.

Plutača koja je pokupila val Ucluelet postavljena je na pučinu zajedno s desecima drugih od strane istraživačkog instituta pod nazivom MarineLabs u pokušaju da sazna više o opasnostima u dubinama.

Čak i kada se čudni valovi pojave daleko od obale, oni i dalje mogu uništiti pomorske operacije, vjetroelektrane ili naftne platforme. Ako su dovoljno velike, mogu ugroziti i živote kupača. Srećom, ni Ucluelet ni Draupner nisu prouzročili ozbiljnu štetu niti odnijeli živote, ali drugi skitnički valovi jesu.

Za neke brodove koji su nestali 1970-ih, primjerice, sada se smatra da su ih potopili iznenadni, prijeteći valovi. Ostaci plutajuće olupine izgledaju kao djelo goleme bijele kape.

Nažalost, studija iz 2020. predvidjela je da će se visine valova u sjevernom Pacifiku povećati s klimatskim promjenama, što sugerira da val Ucluelet možda neće zadržati svoj rekord toliko dugo koliko sugeriraju naša trenutna predviđanja.

Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. U studenom 2020. čudan val pojavio se iz vedra neba, podižući usamljenu plutaču s obale Britanske Kolumbije na 17,6 metara. Četverokatni vodeni zid konačno je potvrđen u veljači 2022. kao najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen u to vrijeme.

Smatra se da se takav izniman događaj događa samo jednom u 1.300 godina. I da nije bilo plutače, možda nikada ne bismo ni saznali da se to uopće dogodilo, piše Science Alert, a prenosi poslovni.hr.

Stoljećima su tzv. lažni valovi smatrani samo nautičkim folklorom. Tek je 1995. mit postao činjenica. Prvog dana nove godine, gotovo 26 metara visok val iznenada je udario u platformu za bušenje nafte otprilike 160 kilometara od obale Norveške. U to vrijeme, takozvani Draupnerov val prkosio je svim prethodnim modelima koje su znanstvenici sastavili.

Od tada su zabilježeni još deseci lažnih valova (neki čak i u jezerima), i dok ovaj posljednji Ucluelet val nije bio najviši, njegova relativna veličina u usporedbi s valovima oko njega bila je bez presedana.

Znanstvenici definiraju lažni val kao bilo koji val koji je dvostruko viši od valova koji ga okružuju. Draupnerov val, primjerice, bio je visok 25,6 metara, dok su njegovi susjedi bili visoki samo 12 metara.

"Proporcionalno, Ucluelet val je vjerojatno najekstremniji lažni val ikada zabilježen", objasnio je fizičar Johannes Gemmrich sa Sveučilišta Victoria 2022. godine.

"Izravno je opaženo samo nekoliko lažnih valova na otvorenom moru, a ništa ove veličine", dodao je.

Danas istraživači još uvijek pokušavaju otkriti kako nastaju lažni valovi kako bismo mogli bolje predvidjeti kada će se pojaviti. To uključuje mjerenje lažnih valova u stvarnom vremenu i također pokretanje modela na način na koji ih vjetar diže.

Plutača koja je pokupila val Ucluelet postavljena je na pučinu zajedno s desecima drugih od strane istraživačkog instituta pod nazivom MarineLabs u pokušaju da sazna više o opasnostima u dubinama.
