Jedna od najmanjih otočnih država na svijetu, Niue, sa svojih 1700 stanovnika ne uspijeva osigurati zaštitu svoga velikog i bogatog teritorija ugroženog nezakonitim ribolovom, klimatskim promjenama i zagađenjem. Stoga su došli na ideju da traže sponzore koji za očuvanje jednog četvornog kilometra oceana trebaju platiti 150 eura.

Poduzetni premijer Dalton Tagelagi podijelio je morski teritorij na 127 000 jedinica OCC-ova (Ocean Conservation Commitmens) s ciljem prikupljanja 18 milijuna dolara za razdoblje od 20 godina.

Većina ribolova na Niueu odvija se u blizini obale tradicionalnim kanuima, no strane ribarske flote ulaze u zaštićenu zonu pa planiraju angažman bespilotnih letjelica za bolji nadzor.

Kao uzdignut koraljni atol koji stoji 60 metara iznad oceana na pola puta između Fiđija i Cookovih otoka, Niue nije u opasnosti da bude preplavljen porastom razine mora, ali zagrijavanje i kiselost oceana prijete koraljima i morskim vrstama, dok bi viša razina morske vode mogla smanjiti zalihe slatke vode na otoku.

Jedna od najmanjih otočnih država na svijetu, Niue, sa svojih 1700 stanovnika ne uspijeva osigurati zaštitu svoga velikog i bogatog teritorija ugroženog nezakonitim ribolovom, klimatskim promjenama i zagađenjem. Stoga su došli na ideju da traže sponzore koji za očuvanje jednog četvornog kilometra oceana trebaju platiti 150 eura.

Poduzetni premijer Dalton Tagelagi podijelio je morski teritorij na 127 000 jedinica OCC-ova (Ocean Conservation Commitmens) s ciljem prikupljanja 18 milijuna dolara za razdoblje od 20 godina.

Većina ribolova na Niueu odvija se u blizini obale tradicionalnim kanuima, no strane ribarske flote ulaze u zaštićenu zonu pa planiraju angažman bespilotnih letjelica za bolji nadzor.

Kao uzdignut koraljni atol koji stoji 60 metara iznad oceana na pola puta između Fiđija i Cookovih otoka, Niue nije u opasnosti da bude preplavljen porastom razine mora, ali zagrijavanje i kiselost oceana prijete koraljima i morskim vrstama, dok bi viša razina morske vode mogla smanjiti zalihe slatke vode na otoku.

Jedna od najmanjih otočnih država na svijetu, Niue, sa svojih 1700 stanovnika ne uspijeva osigurati zaštitu svoga velikog i bogatog teritorija ugroženog nezakonitim ribolovom, klimatskim promjenama i zagađenjem. Stoga su došli na ideju da traže sponzore koji za očuvanje jednog četvornog kilometra oceana trebaju platiti 150 eura.

Poduzetni premijer Dalton Tagelagi podijelio je morski teritorij na 127 000 jedinica OCC-ova (Ocean Conservation Commitmens) s ciljem prikupljanja 18 milijuna dolara za razdoblje od 20 godina.

Većina ribolova na Niueu odvija se u blizini obale tradicionalnim kanuima, no strane ribarske flote ulaze u zaštićenu zonu pa planiraju angažman bespilotnih letjelica za bolji nadzor.

Kao uzdignut koraljni atol koji stoji 60 metara iznad oceana na pola puta između Fiđija i Cookovih otoka, Niue nije u opasnosti da bude preplavljen porastom razine mora, ali zagrijavanje i kiselost oceana prijete koraljima i morskim vrstama, dok bi viša razina morske vode mogla smanjiti zalihe slatke vode na otoku.
