Svako malo negdje na zemlji, najčešće nakon potresa, izda se upozorenje o mogućem tsunamiju. Pamti se golemi tsunami u Indijskom oceanu 2004. godine koji je za sobom ostavio čak 220.000 žrtava.

No o tome koji je najveći val zabilježen na zemlji članak je objavio Live Science. U njemu se navodi da je u srpnju 1958. godine potres magnitude 8,3 zabilježen u Fairweather Faultu, na južnoj obali Aljaske, izazvavši veliko klizište u obližnjem zaljevu Lituya, što je izazvalo razorni tsunami.

Kolosalni val izravnao je stabla na strmim padinama koje okružuju zaljev do maksimalne visine od 524 metra iznad razine mora, što je više od newyorškog Empire State Buildinga, visokog 443 metra. To je poznato kao visina naleta, ili visina koju val dosegne nakon što dođe do kopna.

Maksimalna visina vala bila je oko 150 metara, što ga čini višim od bilo kojeg vala zabilježenog na zemlji te vala kojemu su svjedočili očevici, rekao je za Live Science Hermann Fritz, profesor građevinarstva i inženjerstva okoliša na Tehnološkom institutu Georgije, specijaliziranom za tsunamije i uragane.

Vjerojatno je u povijesti zemlje bilo većih valova, što se može zaključiti iz geoloških naslaga, ali o tome koliki su bili i kolika im je bila visina naleta može se samo nagađati.

Svako malo negdje na zemlji, najčešće nakon potresa, izda se upozorenje o mogućem tsunamiju. Pamti se golemi tsunami u Indijskom oceanu 2004. godine koji je za sobom ostavio čak 220.000 žrtava.

No o tome koji je najveći val zabilježen na zemlji članak je objavio Live Science. U njemu se navodi da je u srpnju 1958. godine potres magnitude 8,3 zabilježen u Fairweather Faultu, na južnoj obali Aljaske, izazvavši veliko klizište u obližnjem zaljevu Lituya, što je izazvalo razorni tsunami.

Kolosalni val izravnao je stabla na strmim padinama koje okružuju zaljev do maksimalne visine od 524 metra iznad razine mora, što je više od newyorškog Empire State Buildinga, visokog 443 metra. To je poznato kao visina naleta, ili visina koju val dosegne nakon što dođe do kopna.

Vjerojatno je u povijesti zemlje bilo većih valova, što se može zaključiti iz geoloških naslaga, ali o tome koliki su bili i kolika im je bila visina naleta može se samo nagađati.

Svako malo negdje na zemlji, najčešće nakon potresa, izda se upozorenje o mogućem tsunamiju. Pamti se golemi tsunami u Indijskom oceanu 2004. godine koji je za sobom ostavio čak 220.000 žrtava.

No o tome koji je najveći val zabilježen na zemlji članak je objavio Live Science. U njemu se navodi da je u srpnju 1958. godine potres magnitude 8,3 zabilježen u Fairweather Faultu, na južnoj obali Aljaske, izazvavši veliko klizište u obližnjem zaljevu Lituya, što je izazvalo razorni tsunami.

Kolosalni val izravnao je stabla na strmim padinama koje okružuju zaljev do maksimalne visine od 524 metra iznad razine mora, što je više od newyorškog Empire State Buildinga, visokog 443 metra. To je poznato kao visina naleta, ili visina koju val dosegne nakon što dođe do kopna.
