Prikaz HIV-a
Njemački liječnici su jednom muškarcu uspjeli ukloniti HIV presađujući mu koštanu srž, što se može smatrati dosad najuspješnijom terapijom za liječenje ove bolesti.

Taj nevjerojatni slučaj daje nov zamah razvoju genske terapije za HIV. Umjesto doživotnog uzimanja skupih i toksičnih lijekova, zaraženi HIV-om mogli bi se podvrgnuti jednokratnoj terapiji. Ovaj 42-godišnji Amerikanac zaražen je HIV-om već deset godina.

U Berlinu, gdje živi, četiri godine je liječen antiretrovirusnom terapijom. No, zatim je obolio od leukemije. Otkad mu je prije dvije godine presađena koštana srž, više nije primao terapiju protiv HIV-a i nije došlo do povratka bolesti. Smatra se da je on osoba koja najduže živi bez virusa, nakon što je prethodno primao antiretrovirusnu terapiju.

Svi detalji ovog slučaja objavljeni su prvi put u utorak u časopisu “New England Journal of Medicine”. Liječenje ovog Amerikanca počeli su liječnici Charite Hospitala u Berlinu, tražeći koštanu srž donora genetski otpornog na HIV.

Naime, neki ljudi, iako su izloženi više puta ovom virusu, ostali su nezaraženi. Prije 20 godina takva pojava je zabilježena kod nekih prostitutki u Nairobiju usprkos tisućama seksualnih kontakata.

Tako je otkriveno da neki ljudi nose mutaciju gena (CCR5) kojoj se pripisuje otpornost na HIV. U zapadnim populacijama procjenjuje se da od 1 do 3 posto ljudi ima tu mutaciju.

Profesor Jay Levy, specijalist za liječenje AIDS-a sa Sveučilišta u Kaliforniji, ustvrdio je da bi izjave o izlječenju ovog pacijenta mogle biti preuranjene, s obzirom na sposobnost virusa da se skrije u ostalim dijelovima tijela (mozak, jetra, limfni sustav, crijeva...) iz kojih se može ponovno aktivirati.

Njemački liječnici su jednom muškarcu uspjeli ukloniti HIV presađujući mu koštanu srž, što se može smatrati dosad najuspješnijom terapijom za liječenje ove bolesti.

Taj nevjerojatni slučaj daje nov zamah razvoju genske terapije za HIV. Umjesto doživotnog uzimanja skupih i toksičnih lijekova, zaraženi HIV-om mogli bi se podvrgnuti jednokratnoj terapiji. Ovaj 42-godišnji Amerikanac zaražen je HIV-om već deset godina.

U Berlinu, gdje živi, četiri godine je liječen antiretrovirusnom terapijom. No, zatim je obolio od leukemije. Otkad mu je prije dvije godine presađena koštana srž, više nije primao terapiju protiv HIV-a i nije došlo do povratka bolesti. Smatra se da je on osoba koja najduže živi bez virusa, nakon što je prethodno primao antiretrovirusnu terapiju.

Svi detalji ovog slučaja objavljeni su prvi put u utorak u časopisu “New England Journal of Medicine”. Liječenje ovog Amerikanca počeli su liječnici Charite Hospitala u Berlinu, tražeći koštanu srž donora genetski otpornog na HIV.

Naime, neki ljudi, iako su izloženi više puta ovom virusu, ostali su nezaraženi. Prije 20 godina takva pojava je zabilježena kod nekih prostitutki u Nairobiju usprkos tisućama seksualnih kontakata.

Tako je otkriveno da neki ljudi nose mutaciju gena (CCR5) kojoj se pripisuje otpornost na HIV. U zapadnim populacijama procjenjuje se da od 1 do 3 posto ljudi ima tu mutaciju.

Profesor Jay Levy, specijalist za liječenje AIDS-a sa Sveučilišta u Kaliforniji, ustvrdio je da bi izjave o izlječenju ovog pacijenta mogle biti preuranjene, s obzirom na sposobnost virusa da se skrije u ostalim dijelovima tijela (mozak, jetra, limfni sustav, crijeva...) iz kojih se može ponovno aktivirati.
