Ljudske emisije stakleničkih plinova dovode do globalnog zatopljenja i posljedičnog otapanja leda, što povećava razinu mora i oceana, objašnjava Klima101. 

Posljednji put kada je koncentracija stakleničkih plinova u atmosferi bila visoka kao danas, razina mora bila je 10-30 metara viša, a procjenjuje se da bi, ako se sav led na planetu otopi, razina mora porasla za oko 70 metara . To potencijalno prijeti mnogim obalnim gradovima i malim otočnim državama, a znanstvenici ulažu mnogo truda i vremena kako bi bolje razumjeli procese koji pridonose topljenju leda i brzini kojom bi naš planet u budućnosti mogao izgubiti ledeni pokrov.

U posljednjem desetljeću postignut je veliki napredak na ovom području, praćen zanimljivim znanstvenim raspravama među timovima koji su u svojim istraživanjima došli do različitih rezultata. Krajnji ciljevi ovih studija su osmisliti najbolji mogući odgovor na nove uvjete s kojima će se ljudi suočiti zbog klimatskih promjena, kao i postići međunarodne sporazume o značajnom smanjenju emisija stakleničkih plinova i ograničavanju globalnih prosječnih temperatura (npr. Pariški sporazum) .

Klimatske projekcije iz 2016. godine, koje upozoravaju da možemo podcijeniti opasnost od otapanja leda s Antarktika, potresle su ne samo znanstvenu zajednicu, već i širu javnost. Riječ je o studiji američkih znanstvenika DeConta i Pollarda, koji su procijenili da bi otapanje leda na Antarktiku moglo dodati cijeli metar prosječnoj razini svjetskog mora do 2100. godine, što je odjeknulo u medijima.

Ovaj rad se prvenstveno bavio dosad nerazjašnjenim pojavama nestabilnosti ledenih ploča i hridi, koje se zbog različitih čimbenika mogu odvojiti od kopna i završiti u moru. Tek dodavanjem ovih fenomena postojećim modelima znanstvenici su uspjeli rekonstruirati iznimno visoku razinu mora u pliocenu (prije tri milijuna godina) i posljednjem interglacijalu (razdoblje između dva velika ledena doba prije 130.000-115.000 godina). Kako bismo razumjeli koliko bi otapanje antarktičkog leda moglo pridonijeti porastu razine mora u današnjoj klimi, napravljene su usporedbe s razdobljem pliocena. Tada je koncentracija ugljičnog dioksida u atmosferi iznosila 400 ppm, što je otprilike današnja razina (419 ppm), dok se procjenjuje da je razina mora bila 10-30 metara viša od današnje.

Rezultate ove studije 2019. godine doveo je u pitanje tim britanske znanstvenice Tamsina Edwardsa s King's Collegea u Londonu, koji je svojim modelom značajno povećao broj simulacija klimatskih modela koje su razvili DeConto i Pollard kako bi istražili širi raspon mogućih Ishodi otapanja leda na Antarktiku.Ovom metodom došli su do zaključka da bi čak i prema scenariju visokih emisija (RCP8.5) doprinos Antarktika razini svjetskog mora bio 45 cm do 2100. godine što bi značilo da je znatno manji nego što je izvorno prijavljeno na studijama iz 2016. godine. 

Pet godina nakon objave pesimističnih projekcija DeContea i Pollarda, njihovo najnovije istraživanje objavljeno je u časopisu Nature, gotovo istovremeno s novim rezultatima Tamsin Edwards i njezinog tima od 84 istraživača iz 62 različite institucije. . Iako se razlikuju u pristupu nesigurnosti i kalibraciji klimatskih modela, projekcije oba rada daleko su optimističnije nego u 2016. godini.

Ne postoji jedinstven klimatski model koji može sa sigurnošću predvidjeti budući porast razine svjetskog mora. Budući da je doprinos većine čimbenika vrlo neizvjestan, a informacije se dobivaju iz mnogih izvora, odnosno od članova znanstvene zajednice s različitim fokusom i pristupima, može se reći da su procjene porasta razine mora sinteza svih ovih modela i informacija. 

Kao što je statističar George Box rekao: "Svi modeli su pogrešni, ali neki su korisni." Stoga je vrlo važno istaknuti da, unatoč neslaganju znanstvenika po nekim pitanjima dizajna modela, njihov doprinos daljnjim istraživanjima i donošenju odluka ostaje nemjerljiv.

Ljudske emisije stakleničkih plinova dovode do globalnog zatopljenja i posljedičnog otapanja leda, što povećava razinu mora i oceana, objašnjava Klima101. 

Posljednji put kada je koncentracija stakleničkih plinova u atmosferi bila visoka kao danas, razina mora bila je 10-30 metara viša, a procjenjuje se da bi, ako se sav led na planetu otopi, razina mora porasla za oko 70 metara . To potencijalno prijeti mnogim obalnim gradovima i malim otočnim državama, a znanstvenici ulažu mnogo truda i vremena kako bi bolje razumjeli procese koji pridonose topljenju leda i brzini kojom bi naš planet u budućnosti mogao izgubiti ledeni pokrov.

U posljednjem desetljeću postignut je veliki napredak na ovom području, praćen zanimljivim znanstvenim raspravama među timovima koji su u svojim istraživanjima došli do različitih rezultata. Krajnji ciljevi ovih studija su osmisliti najbolji mogući odgovor na nove uvjete s kojima će se ljudi suočiti zbog klimatskih promjena, kao i postići međunarodne sporazume o značajnom smanjenju emisija stakleničkih plinova i ograničavanju globalnih prosječnih temperatura (npr. Pariški sporazum) .

Klimatske projekcije iz 2016. godine, koje upozoravaju da možemo podcijeniti opasnost od otapanja leda s Antarktika, potresle su ne samo znanstvenu zajednicu, već i širu javnost. Riječ je o studiji američkih znanstvenika DeConta i Pollarda, koji su procijenili da bi otapanje leda na Antarktiku moglo dodati cijeli metar prosječnoj razini svjetskog mora do 2100. godine, što je odjeknulo u medijima.

Ovaj rad se prvenstveno bavio dosad nerazjašnjenim pojavama nestabilnosti ledenih ploča i hridi, koje se zbog različitih čimbenika mogu odvojiti od kopna i završiti u moru. Tek dodavanjem ovih fenomena postojećim modelima znanstvenici su uspjeli rekonstruirati iznimno visoku razinu mora u pliocenu (prije tri milijuna godina) i posljednjem interglacijalu (razdoblje između dva velika ledena doba prije 130.000-115.000 godina). Kako bismo razumjeli koliko bi otapanje antarktičkog leda moglo pridonijeti porastu razine mora u današnjoj klimi, napravljene su usporedbe s razdobljem pliocena. Tada je koncentracija ugljičnog dioksida u atmosferi iznosila 400 ppm, što je otprilike današnja razina (419 ppm), dok se procjenjuje da je razina mora bila 10-30 metara viša od današnje.

Rezultate ove studije 2019. godine doveo je u pitanje tim britanske znanstvenice Tamsina Edwardsa s King's Collegea u Londonu, koji je svojim modelom značajno povećao broj simulacija klimatskih modela koje su razvili DeConto i Pollard kako bi istražili širi raspon mogućih Ishodi otapanja leda na Antarktiku.Ovom metodom došli su do zaključka da bi čak i prema scenariju visokih emisija (RCP8.5) doprinos Antarktika razini svjetskog mora bio 45 cm do 2100. godine što bi značilo da je znatno manji nego što je izvorno prijavljeno na studijama iz 2016. godine. 

Pet godina nakon objave pesimističnih projekcija DeContea i Pollarda, njihovo najnovije istraživanje objavljeno je u časopisu Nature, gotovo istovremeno s novim rezultatima Tamsin Edwards i njezinog tima od 84 istraživača iz 62 različite institucije. . Iako se razlikuju u pristupu nesigurnosti i kalibraciji klimatskih modela, projekcije oba rada daleko su optimističnije nego u 2016. godini.

Ne postoji jedinstven klimatski model koji može sa sigurnošću predvidjeti budući porast razine svjetskog mora. Budući da je doprinos većine čimbenika vrlo neizvjestan, a informacije se dobivaju iz mnogih izvora, odnosno od članova znanstvene zajednice s različitim fokusom i pristupima, može se reći da su procjene porasta razine mora sinteza svih ovih modela i informacija. 

Kao što je statističar George Box rekao: "Svi modeli su pogrešni, ali neki su korisni." Stoga je vrlo važno istaknuti da, unatoč neslaganju znanstvenika po nekim pitanjima dizajna modela, njihov doprinos daljnjim istraživanjima i donošenju odluka ostaje nemjerljiv.

Ljudske emisije stakleničkih plinova dovode do globalnog zatopljenja i posljedičnog otapanja leda, što povećava razinu mora i oceana, objašnjava Klima101. 

Posljednji put kada je koncentracija stakleničkih plinova u atmosferi bila visoka kao danas, razina mora bila je 10-30 metara viša, a procjenjuje se da bi, ako se sav led na planetu otopi, razina mora porasla za oko 70 metara . To potencijalno prijeti mnogim obalnim gradovima i malim otočnim državama, a znanstvenici ulažu mnogo truda i vremena kako bi bolje razumjeli procese koji pridonose topljenju leda i brzini kojom bi naš planet u budućnosti mogao izgubiti ledeni pokrov.
