Iako je radila u Auschwitzu pod budnim okom zloglasnog Josefa Mengelea, nacističkog liječnika koji je stekao nadimak Anđeo smrti smislila je način kako da pomogne pacijenticama - Gisella Perl​ izvršavala je abortuse. 

Ginekologinja je riskirala svoj kako bi spasila živote stotine žena u Auschwitzu, piše National Geographic.

Rođena u Mađarskoj 1907. godine, znake izvanredne nadarenosti pokazivala je još u djetinjstvu. Mlada židovka diplomirala je prva u svojoj generaciji.

Njezin otac je oklijevao u tome da podrži njezine akademske težnje, posebno one ka medicini. Strahovao je da će je studij udaljiti od vjere. Ona ga je uveravala da se to neće dogoditi.

Udala se za kirurga i radila kao ginekolog u Mađarskoj kad su Nijemci izvršili invaziju 1944. godine.

Nacisti su poslali Gisellu, njezinog muža, sina, roditelje i širu obitelj u Auschwitz. Kćer je sakrila u jednoj nežidovskoj obitelji.

Po dolasku u Auschwitz, nacisti su je odvojili od ostatka obitelji. Sin joj je kasnije umro u plinskoj komori, a muža su joj pretukli nasmrt neposredno prije oslobođenja logora. Gisella Perl bila je pošteđena jer su nacistima trebali liječnici. 

U početku je njen zadatak bio ohrabrivati zatvorenike da daju krv za potrebe njemačke vojske. Međutim, kad je doktor Mengele saznao da je ginekologinja, koristio ju je da bi dobivao informacije o trudnoćama zatvorenica.

Pored, sada poznatih, eksperimenata na blizancima, Mengele je izvodio eksperimente i na trudnicama, uključujući i vivisekciju.

Giselli je rečeno da prijavljuje trudnoće zatvorenica kako bi bile poslane u drugi kamp - s boljom njegom. Poučena ranijim iskustvima, znala je da ne smije vjerovati Mengeleu. Jednom je na njegov zahtjev dovela 50 žena, a onda zaprepašteno gledala kako ih odvoze u kamionima Crvenog križa - u krematorij. Nije smjela više prijavljivati trudnoće - samo je morala smisliti kako da ih sakrije.

Nažalost, pojedine žene, s nadom da je priča o boljem kampu istinita, same su otišle prijaviti da su u drugom stanju. Nad njima su kasnije vršeni eksperimenti, i sve su umrle.

Perl se tada suočila s ogromnom moralnom dilemom - ako bi porodila žene blizu nacističkih liječnika, oni bi čuli plač bebe, a onda bi za kaznu vjerojatno ubili sve u baraci. I to najvjerojatnije nakon mučenja.

Iako je to bilo protiv njenih uvjerenja i tadašnjeg društvenog kodeksa, Gisella Perl je počela izvoditi abortuse. Nije imala alat, ništa za dezinfekciju ruku i nikakvo sredstvo za ublažavanje bolova. Ženama bi probušila amnionsku vrećicu, rukom proširila grlić maternice, a onda bi izvadila bebu koja bi - budući da je rođena prerano - gotovo odmah umrla.

- Izvršila sam stotine prijevremenih poroda - rekla je jednom prilikom za NewYork Times.

- Nitko nikad neće saznati kako sam se tad osjećala, ali da to nisam učinila, i majka i dijete bili bi okrutno ubijeni - zaključila je.

U svojoj knjizi "Bila sam doktor u Auschwitzu" pisala je o mladoj ženi koja je došla skoro do termina za porođaj. Beba je rođena u tajnosti, a majka je poslana u ambulantu s "upalom pluća" (bolesnici sa upalom pluća nisu bili osuđivani na smrt, za razliku od onih sa tifusom).

Vjerovala je da radi najbolje što može u tim nezamislivim okolnostima. Kako je pisala, žene koje je liječila "nisu znale da će morati platiti svojim životima i životima svoje nerođene djece za tu posljednju, nježnu noć provedenu u naručju svojih muževa".

Ubrzo je shvatila da u Auschwitzu i drugim koncentracijskim logorima uloga židovskih liječnika nije bila da liječe, nego da ubrzaju smrt - kako bi skratili mučenje.

Doktorica Gisella Perl prebačena je u drugi logor gdje je dočekala oslobođenje Auschwitza. Svi drugi članovi njene obitelji bili su mrtvi. Skrhana, pokušala je izvršiti samoubojstvo.

Nakon oporavka je 1947. godine otišla u New York, gdje je ispitivana zbog sumnje da je pomagala nacističkim liječnicima. Spasila su je svjedočenja logorašica. Jedna od preživjelih je rekla: "Bez medicinskog znanja doktorice Perl i njene spremnosti da riskira svoj život pomažući nama, tko zna što bi se dogodilo meni i mnogim drugim zatvorenicama".

Tri godine kasnije dobila je američko državljanstvo i postala specijalist za neplodnost u njujorškoj bolnici Mount Sinai.

Kći koju je sakrila prije rata preživjela je i njih su se dvije preselile u Izrael, što je bilo jedno od obećanja koje je dala suprugu (neki izvori navode - ocu) prije nego što su ih razdvojili.

"Jednog dana ćemo se sresti", rekao je, "u Jeruzalemu."

Gisella Perl živjela je u Izraelu s kćeri do svoje smrti 1988. godine.

Nakon što je godinama bila primorana izvršavati abortuse ženama u Auschwitzu, doktorica Gisella Perl porodila je tisuće žena koje su na svijet donijele zdrave bebe. Prije svakog porođaja izgovarala je istu molitvu: "Bože, duguješ mi život – živu bebu".

Iako je radila u Auschwitzu pod budnim okom zloglasnog Josefa Mengelea, nacističkog liječnika koji je stekao nadimak Anđeo smrti smislila je način kako da pomogne pacijenticama - Gisella Perl​ izvršavala je abortuse. 

Ginekologinja je riskirala svoj kako bi spasila živote stotine žena u Auschwitzu, piše National Geographic.

Rođena u Mađarskoj 1907. godine, znake izvanredne nadarenosti pokazivala je još u djetinjstvu. Mlada židovka diplomirala je prva u svojoj generaciji.

Njezin otac je oklijevao u tome da podrži njezine akademske težnje, posebno one ka medicini. Strahovao je da će je studij udaljiti od vjere. Ona ga je uveravala da se to neće dogoditi.

Udala se za kirurga i radila kao ginekolog u Mađarskoj kad su Nijemci izvršili invaziju 1944. godine.

Nacisti su poslali Gisellu, njezinog muža, sina, roditelje i širu obitelj u Auschwitz. Kćer je sakrila u jednoj nežidovskoj obitelji.

Po dolasku u Auschwitz, nacisti su je odvojili od ostatka obitelji. Sin joj je kasnije umro u plinskoj komori, a muža su joj pretukli nasmrt neposredno prije oslobođenja logora. Gisella Perl bila je pošteđena jer su nacistima trebali liječnici. 

U početku je njen zadatak bio ohrabrivati zatvorenike da daju krv za potrebe njemačke vojske. Međutim, kad je doktor Mengele saznao da je ginekologinja, koristio ju je da bi dobivao informacije o trudnoćama zatvorenica.

Pored, sada poznatih, eksperimenata na blizancima, Mengele je izvodio eksperimente i na trudnicama, uključujući i vivisekciju.

Giselli je rečeno da prijavljuje trudnoće zatvorenica kako bi bile poslane u drugi kamp - s boljom njegom. Poučena ranijim iskustvima, znala je da ne smije vjerovati Mengeleu. Jednom je na njegov zahtjev dovela 50 žena, a onda zaprepašteno gledala kako ih odvoze u kamionima Crvenog križa - u krematorij. Nije smjela više prijavljivati trudnoće - samo je morala smisliti kako da ih sakrije.

Nažalost, pojedine žene, s nadom da je priča o boljem kampu istinita, same su otišle prijaviti da su u drugom stanju. Nad njima su kasnije vršeni eksperimenti, i sve su umrle.

Perl se tada suočila s ogromnom moralnom dilemom - ako bi porodila žene blizu nacističkih liječnika, oni bi čuli plač bebe, a onda bi za kaznu vjerojatno ubili sve u baraci. I to najvjerojatnije nakon mučenja.

Iako je to bilo protiv njenih uvjerenja i tadašnjeg društvenog kodeksa, Gisella Perl je počela izvoditi abortuse. Nije imala alat, ništa za dezinfekciju ruku i nikakvo sredstvo za ublažavanje bolova. Ženama bi probušila amnionsku vrećicu, rukom proširila grlić maternice, a onda bi izvadila bebu koja bi - budući da je rođena prerano - gotovo odmah umrla.

- Izvršila sam stotine prijevremenih poroda - rekla je jednom prilikom za NewYork Times.

- Nitko nikad neće saznati kako sam se tad osjećala, ali da to nisam učinila, i majka i dijete bili bi okrutno ubijeni - zaključila je.

U svojoj knjizi "Bila sam doktor u Auschwitzu" pisala je o mladoj ženi koja je došla skoro do termina za porođaj. Beba je rođena u tajnosti, a majka je poslana u ambulantu s "upalom pluća" (bolesnici sa upalom pluća nisu bili osuđivani na smrt, za razliku od onih sa tifusom).

Vjerovala je da radi najbolje što može u tim nezamislivim okolnostima. Kako je pisala, žene koje je liječila "nisu znale da će morati platiti svojim životima i životima svoje nerođene djece za tu posljednju, nježnu noć provedenu u naručju svojih muževa".

Ubrzo je shvatila da u Auschwitzu i drugim koncentracijskim logorima uloga židovskih liječnika nije bila da liječe, nego da ubrzaju smrt - kako bi skratili mučenje.

Doktorica Gisella Perl prebačena je u drugi logor gdje je dočekala oslobođenje Auschwitza. Svi drugi članovi njene obitelji bili su mrtvi. Skrhana, pokušala je izvršiti samoubojstvo.

Nakon oporavka je 1947. godine otišla u New York, gdje je ispitivana zbog sumnje da je pomagala nacističkim liječnicima. Spasila su je svjedočenja logorašica. Jedna od preživjelih je rekla: "Bez medicinskog znanja doktorice Perl i njene spremnosti da riskira svoj život pomažući nama, tko zna što bi se dogodilo meni i mnogim drugim zatvorenicama".

Tri godine kasnije dobila je američko državljanstvo i postala specijalist za neplodnost u njujorškoj bolnici Mount Sinai.

Kći koju je sakrila prije rata preživjela je i njih su se dvije preselile u Izrael, što je bilo jedno od obećanja koje je dala suprugu (neki izvori navode - ocu) prije nego što su ih razdvojili.

"Jednog dana ćemo se sresti", rekao je, "u Jeruzalemu."

Gisella Perl živjela je u Izraelu s kćeri do svoje smrti 1988. godine.

Nakon što je godinama bila primorana izvršavati abortuse ženama u Auschwitzu, doktorica Gisella Perl porodila je tisuće žena koje su na svijet donijele zdrave bebe. Prije svakog porođaja izgovarala je istu molitvu: "Bože, duguješ mi život – živu bebu".
