Premda su u današnje vrijeme paprike dostupne cijele godine, ljeto je njihova prava sezona dozrijevanja i tada su najboljeg okusa i sadrže najviše hranjivih tvari. Najzdravije i najpunijeg okusa su one jarkih i živih boja, koža im treba biti čvrsta i kompaktna, a stabljika zelena - to je znak da su svježe. Stoga prilikom kupnje treba obratiti pažnju na to da nisu smežurane i da nemaju mekane dijelove ili druga oštećenja, piše Živim .

Za jačanje imuniteta
Izvanredan su izvor vitamina C pa se zbog njegove velike koncentracije preporučuju kao obavezan dodatak prehrani za jačanje imuniteta. Zahvaljujući obilju vitamina C, ali i beta-karotenu mogu pružiti kvalitetnu zaštitu od razvoja očne mrene. Istraživanja su pokazala da osobe koje su jele veće količine povrća, uključujući paprike, imaju znatno manji rizik od razvoja sive mrene. Ovo povrće također zbog visoke koncentracije karotenoida luteina i zeaksantina štiti oči od makularne degeneracije, koja je glavni uzrok sljepoće u odraslih.

Paprike su dobar izvor vitamina E, kojem se pripisuju antikancerogena svojstva, a obiluju i drugim hranjivim tvarima korisnim za zdravlje. Među važnijima ističu se vitamin K, koji ima značajnu ulogu u izgradnji kostiju, vitamini B1 i B2 zaslužni su za stvaranje energije, a od minerala ima najviše kalija, fosfora i željeza.
Vjeruje se i da je paprika, posebno ljuta papričica, savršen afrodizijak jer budi raspoloženje i strast, a to se pripisuje tome što ljuta paprika ubrzava rad krvotoka. Ljuti okus papričice duguju sastojku koji se zove kapsaicin. Što paprika ima više kapsaicina, to je ljuća. Kapsaicin djeluje antiseptički te sprečava razvoj bakterija u probavnom sustavu.

Paprike, naravno, nisu omiljene samo zbog svojih zdravstvenih učinaka, nego i zbog specifičnog okusa i hrskave strukture pa su i neizostavan sastojak mnogih sirovih i kuhanih jela. Izvanredan su izvor vitamina C pa se zbog njegove velike koncentracije preporučuju kao obavezan dodatak prehrani za jačanje imuniteta. Zahvaljujući obilju vitamina C, ali i beta-karotenu mogu pružiti kvalitetnu zaštitu od razvoja očne mrene. Istraživanja su pokazala da osobe koje su jele veće količine povrća, uključujući paprike, imaju znatno manji rizik od razvoja sive mrene. Ovo povrće također zbog visoke koncentracije karotenoida luteina i zeaksantina štiti oči od makularne degeneracije, koja je glavni uzrok sljepoće u odraslih.

Paprike su dobar izvor vitamina E, kojem se pripisuju antikancerogena svojstva, a obiluju i drugim hranjivim tvarima korisnim za zdravlje. Među važnijima ističu se vitamin K, koji ima značajnu ulogu u izgradnji kostiju, vitamini B1 i B2 zaslužni su za stvaranje energije, a od minerala ima najviše kalija, fosfora i željeza.

Paprike, naravno, nisu omiljene samo zbog svojih zdravstvenih učinaka, nego i zbog specifičnog okusa i hrskave strukture pa su i neizostavan sastojak mnogih sirovih i kuhanih jela. Crvene paprike sjajan su dodatak salatama, vrlo su ukusne pečene, punjene, pirjane, s roštilja, dodaju se rižotima, tjestenini, jelima od mesa...
