Lampicama za božićna drvca zapleten je veliki crveni pas Clifford i zavaljen tik do poklona na jednom plakatu filma koji njegovo ime nosi. Na drugom plakatu, Clifford se nalazi na snijegu, između okićenih borova. "Veliki pas Clifford" ("Clifford The Big Red Dog") još od kraja studenoga neskriveno tipuje biti udarni ovogodišnji obiteljski film za (pred)blagdanski štimung, idealni poklon za klince upakiran u šareni celofan i omotan svjetlucavim lampicama.

Tendencije novog hollywoodskog "family/kid friendly" blockbustera, snimljenog prema seriji slikovnica Normana Bridwella, prilično su očigledne, no "Veliki pas Clifford" se uspijeva uzdignuti iznad puke korporativno-studijske kalkulacije i pokazati mrvu filmske magije.

"Čarolija je svuda oko nas samo ako znate gdje tražiti", u stripovsko-animiranom uvodu filma podsjeća narator, spasitelj životinja mr. Bridwell (John Cleese), koji se, u znak posvete, preziva kao autor Cliffordovih slikovnica. "Clifford" bi mogao biti ugodno iznenađenje svakome tko je na osnovi "trailera" i koncepta računalno-animirane životinje u interakciji s glumcima od krvi i mesa očekivao "Štrumpfove", "Alvina i vjeverice", "Štrumpfove 2" ili "Toma i Jerryja".

Scenaristi Jay Scherick i David Ronn ("Spasilačka služba") te redatelj Walt Becker ("Divljaci na kotačima") dali su obol upravo na igrano-animiranim serijalima "Smurfs" i "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Ipak, "Clifford" se nije povinuo za njima i načinio da, recimo, titularni pas (pro)govori, što je zasigurno nekome od čelnika studija Paramount Pictures prošlo kroz glavu kako bi glavni lik bolje komunicirao s publikom, onako kao Petar Zecimir.

"Clifford" je bliži usporedbi sa "Zovom divljine", dijeleći njegove mane (manje) i vrline (više). Najveća mana filma, osim predvidljivosti, karakteristična je za novije blockbustere, a tiče se (očite) digitalizacije centralnog protagonista. Naime, Clifford nije pravi pas čak ni kao štene jer filmašima je postalo lakše računalno animirati životinje nego ih trenirati.

Sve je to u redu dok životinje ne dijele ekran s ljudima kao u blockbusterskim igranim inačicama Disneyjevih crtića "Knjiga o džungli" i "Kralj lavova", ali kad dijele nerijetko izgleda da se ne nalaze u istom kadru. Štenčić Clifford nije posve kompjutorski uvjerljiv i sreća je da brzo naraste do tri metra visine, nakon čega je CGI znatno bolji, možda i zato što prirodnije odgovara kreaciji neprirodno velikih životinja (King Kong) naspram postojećih ("Dolittle").

Kad se to dogodi i Clifford bude "samo malo veći", zabavan i simpatičan film se ugleda na obiteljske/dječje klasike osamdesetih o prijateljstvu usamljene djece i čuda prirode poput "E.T.-ja". Pasjeg junaka pronalazi 12-godišnja Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp, "Male laži") koja je drukčija u školi i, kao takva, meta zločestih djevojčica, jednako kao što je i Clifford drukčiji pas, "tako sladak i tako sitan i tako crven".

Kao da nije dosta što je crven, on će i narasti nakon što Emily plačući poželi "da smo veliki i jaki i da nam nitko ništa ne može", a suza čarobno kane na pasju dlaku. Mr. Bridwell je na Emilyno pitanje "koliko će narasti?" lijepo odgovorio "ovisi o tome koliko ga voliš" i Cliffordov rast je plod njezine ljubavi.

Rast je povod za smiješne situacije s Emilynim ujakom Caseyjem (Jack Whitehall; "Krstarenje džunglom"), njezinim "bejbisiterom" u odsutnosti majke Maggie (Sienna Guillory), primjerice da moraju sakriti divovskog psa u stanu kad im netko pokuca na vrata ili ga odvesti do veterinara.

Isto tako, veliki Clifford privlači pažnju direktora biotehnološke korporacije Zacka Tierana (Tony Hale) koji eksperimentira na uvećavanju životinja i drugih (s)tvari kako bi povećao svjetske zalihe hrane ili tako nešto, stoga Emily mora spasiti svoga psa od njega, kao što je on spasio nju od "bully" vršnjakinje.

U sretan kraj ne treba sumnjati, ali neki drugi film bi do njega došao uz više jeftinih štoseva i zahodsko-humornih scena, a manje dobronamjernosti i srca. "On nikome ne bi napravio ništa nažao – on voli", iskreno opiše Emily ne samo Clifforda, već i njegov film.

30.000 gledatelja, 900.000 kuna zarade

"Clifforda" je dosad vidjelo nešto manje od 30.000 gledatelja u hrvatskim kinima (28.231) i zaradio je blizu milijun kuna, točnije 943.900, s čime je prestigao "Nesavršenog robota Rona".

Lampicama za božićna drvca zapleten je veliki crveni pas Clifford i zavaljen tik do poklona na jednom plakatu filma koji njegovo ime nosi. Na drugom plakatu, Clifford se nalazi na snijegu, između okićenih borova. "Veliki pas Clifford" ("Clifford The Big Red Dog") još od kraja studenoga neskriveno tipuje biti udarni ovogodišnji obiteljski film za (pred)blagdanski štimung, idealni poklon za klince upakiran u šareni celofan i omotan svjetlucavim lampicama.

Tendencije novog hollywoodskog "family/kid friendly" blockbustera, snimljenog prema seriji slikovnica Normana Bridwella, prilično su očigledne, no "Veliki pas Clifford" se uspijeva uzdignuti iznad puke korporativno-studijske kalkulacije i pokazati mrvu filmske magije.

"Čarolija je svuda oko nas samo ako znate gdje tražiti", u stripovsko-animiranom uvodu filma podsjeća narator, spasitelj životinja mr. Bridwell (John Cleese), koji se, u znak posvete, preziva kao autor Cliffordovih slikovnica. "Clifford" bi mogao biti ugodno iznenađenje svakome tko je na osnovi "trailera" i koncepta računalno-animirane životinje u interakciji s glumcima od krvi i mesa očekivao "Štrumpfove", "Alvina i vjeverice", "Štrumpfove 2" ili "Toma i Jerryja".

Scenaristi Jay Scherick i David Ronn ("Spasilačka služba") te redatelj Walt Becker ("Divljaci na kotačima") dali su obol upravo na igrano-animiranim serijalima "Smurfs" i "Alvin and the Chipmunks". Ipak, "Clifford" se nije povinuo za njima i načinio da, recimo, titularni pas (pro)govori, što je zasigurno nekome od čelnika studija Paramount Pictures prošlo kroz glavu kako bi glavni lik bolje komunicirao s publikom, onako kao Petar Zecimir.

"Clifford" je bliži usporedbi sa "Zovom divljine", dijeleći njegove mane (manje) i vrline (više). Najveća mana filma, osim predvidljivosti, karakteristična je za novije blockbustere, a tiče se (očite) digitalizacije centralnog protagonista. Naime, Clifford nije pravi pas čak ni kao štene jer filmašima je postalo lakše računalno animirati životinje nego ih trenirati.

Sve je to u redu dok životinje ne dijele ekran s ljudima kao u blockbusterskim igranim inačicama Disneyjevih crtića "Knjiga o džungli" i "Kralj lavova", ali kad dijele nerijetko izgleda da se ne nalaze u istom kadru. Štenčić Clifford nije posve kompjutorski uvjerljiv i sreća je da brzo naraste do tri metra visine, nakon čega je CGI znatno bolji, možda i zato što prirodnije odgovara kreaciji neprirodno velikih životinja (King Kong) naspram postojećih ("Dolittle").

Kad se to dogodi i Clifford bude "samo malo veći", zabavan i simpatičan film se ugleda na obiteljske/dječje klasike osamdesetih o prijateljstvu usamljene djece i čuda prirode poput "E.T.-ja". Pasjeg junaka pronalazi 12-godišnja Emily Elizabeth (Darby Camp, "Male laži") koja je drukčija u školi i, kao takva, meta zločestih djevojčica, jednako kao što je i Clifford drukčiji pas, "tako sladak i tako sitan i tako crven".

Kao da nije dosta što je crven, on će i narasti nakon što Emily plačući poželi "da smo veliki i jaki i da nam nitko ništa ne može", a suza čarobno kane na pasju dlaku. Mr. Bridwell je na Emilyno pitanje "koliko će narasti?" lijepo odgovorio "ovisi o tome koliko ga voliš" i Cliffordov rast je plod njezine ljubavi.

Rast je povod za smiješne situacije s Emilynim ujakom Caseyjem (Jack Whitehall; "Krstarenje džunglom"), njezinim "bejbisiterom" u odsutnosti majke Maggie (Sienna Guillory), primjerice da moraju sakriti divovskog psa u stanu kad im netko pokuca na vrata ili ga odvesti do veterinara.

Isto tako, veliki Clifford privlači pažnju direktora biotehnološke korporacije Zacka Tierana (Tony Hale) koji eksperimentira na uvećavanju životinja i drugih (s)tvari kako bi povećao svjetske zalihe hrane ili tako nešto, stoga Emily mora spasiti svoga psa od njega, kao što je on spasio nju od "bully" vršnjakinje.

U sretan kraj ne treba sumnjati, ali neki drugi film bi do njega došao uz više jeftinih štoseva i zahodsko-humornih scena, a manje dobronamjernosti i srca. "On nikome ne bi napravio ništa nažao – on voli", iskreno opiše Emily ne samo Clifforda, već i njegov film.

30.000 gledatelja, 900.000 kuna zarade

"Clifforda" je dosad vidjelo nešto manje od 30.000 gledatelja u hrvatskim kinima (28.231) i zaradio je blizu milijun kuna, točnije 943.900, s čime je prestigao "Nesavršenog robota Rona".
