Znanstvenici su ostvarili značajan napredak u liječenju raka razvojem revolucionarnog lijeka pod kodnim nazivom AOH1996. Ova molekula cilja protein poznat kao proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), koji je prisutan u većini stanica raka i potiče njihov rast i razmnožavanje.

Revolucionarni lijek prije je smatran nemogućim za razviti jer je PCNA bio smatran "nemogućim za liječenje". Međutim, nakon 20 godina istraživanja i razvoja u bolnici City of Hope u Los Angelesu, jednom od najvećih centara za liječenje raka u Americi, uspješno su stvorili AOH1996, prenosi Daily Mail.

Učinkovitost lijeka testirana je na više od 70 različitih vrsta stanica raka, uključujući one iz dojke, prostate, mozga, jajnika, cerviksa, kože i pluća, i pokazala se izuzetno djelotvornom protiv svih njih. Osim toga, AOH1996 selektivno cilja stanice raka ometajući njihov normalni reproduktivni ciklus. On sprječava diobu stanica s oštećenim DNA-om i zaustavlja replikaciju pogrešnog DNA-a, što rezultira smrću stanica raka, ostavljajući pri tome zdrave stanice netaknutima.

Dr. Linda Malkas, koja vodi istraživački tim u bolnici City of Hope, objasnila je da lijek specifično ometa replikaciju i popravak DNA-a u stanicama raka, čime štiti zdrave stanice od oštećenja. Za razliku od mnogih ciljanih terapija koje se usredotočuju na jedan put, AOH1996 cilja jedinstveni oblik PCNA prisutan u stanicama raka, što ga čini iznimno obećavajućim u suzbijanju rasta tumora bez negativnih nuspojava. Lijek trenutno prolazi klinička ispitivanja na ljudima u prvoj fazi u bolnici City of Hope.

Razvoj ove nove terapije donosi nadu da bi rak mogao postati izlječiv u idućem desetljeću. Znanstvenici su ostvarili značajan napredak u liječenju raka razvojem revolucionarnog lijeka pod kodnim nazivom AOH1996. Ova molekula cilja protein poznat kao proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), koji je prisutan u većini stanica raka i potiče njihov rast i razmnožavanje.

Znanstvenici su ostvarili značajan napredak u liječenju raka razvojem revolucionarnog lijeka pod kodnim nazivom AOH1996. Ova molekula cilja protein poznat kao proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), koji je prisutan u većini stanica raka i potiče njihov rast i razmnožavanje.
