Iz Australije stiže jeziva priča: stotine mrtvih ptica izbacilo je more na istočne obale kontinenta, a sa svakim valom ih je sve više. Radi se o tankokljunom zovoju, koji putuje više od deset tisuća kilometara do Aljaske do Victorije i Tasmanije svake godine, zbog razmnožavanja. No, sve više i više ptica umire na tom tri tjedna dugom putovanju, a ljude šokiraju prizori na obalama, piše Jutarnji.hr
Postoji nekoliko teorija o uzroku ove strahote, ali vodeći stručnjaci kažu da su klimatske promjene uvelike krive za smrt ptica. Smatraju da im je vjerojatno porast temperature u vodi otežao dolazak do hrane i doveo do toga da umiru od gladi. Drugi nagađaju da su loši vremenski uvjeti mogli dovesti do toga da su mnoge od ovih ptica nasukane diljem Novog Južnog Walesa.
Jedan korisnik društvenih mrežar napisao je da je njihov prijatelj pronašao "preko 150 mrtvih ptica" s njihovih lokalnih plaža, dok su drugi rekli da su vidjeli desetke do stotine njih u svojim područjima.
Penny McMullin volonterka je Australske organizacije za spašavanje divljih životinja (WIRES) i rekla je da je skupljanje i pokušaj spašavanja ptica bilo "poražavajuće" iskustvo. Ona je posjetila plažu blizu Sydneyja i to nakon što je čula izvješće o najmanje 50 mrtvih ptica. Kada je stigla sa šest drugih volontera iz različitih organizacija, zatekla se kako gleda tijela "dokle vam seže pogled".
- Sakupili smo oko 30 zovoja koji su još bili živi. Sutra ih je samo dvoje bilo živo. To mas je izrazito potreslo, jer smo shvatili da im ne možemo pomoći - rekla je McMullin za news.com. Ipak, zamolila je sve one koji pronađu ove ptice koje daju znakove života, da jave organizacijama koje brinu o njima. Sve kako bi ih ipak pokušali spasiti.
Sada se može govoriti o tisućama ptica, no problem je što Australija nema službenu metodu dokumentiranja i ne zna se precizna brojka.
Nije ovo prvi put da se na plažama nalaze malena tijela ovih ptica. Prije deset godina oko tri milijuna ih je nastradalo na istočnoj obali – i dok se to u to vrijeme pripisivalo prirodnim uzrocima, Organizacija Commonwealtha za znanstvena i industrijska istraživanja (CSIRO) izvijestila je da su mnoge od tih ptica gladovale, a neke su viđene kako jedu kamenje i plastiku prije smrti.

Iz Australije stiže jeziva priča: stotine mrtvih ptica izbacilo je more na istočne obale kontinenta, a sa svakim valom ih je sve više. Radi se o tankokljunom zovoju, koji putuje više od deset tisuća kilometara do Aljaske do Victorije i Tasmanije svake godine, zbog razmnožavanja. No, sve više i više ptica umire na tom tri tjedna dugom putovanju, a ljude šokiraju prizori na obalama, piše Jutarnji.hr
Postoji nekoliko teorija o uzroku ove strahote, ali vodeći stručnjaci kažu da su klimatske promjene uvelike krive za smrt ptica. Smatraju da im je vjerojatno porast temperature u vodi otežao dolazak do hrane i doveo do toga da umiru od gladi. Drugi nagađaju da su loši vremenski uvjeti mogli dovesti do toga da su mnoge od ovih ptica nasukane diljem Novog Južnog Walesa.
Jedan korisnik društvenih mrežar napisao je da je njihov prijatelj pronašao "preko 150 mrtvih ptica" s njihovih lokalnih plaža, dok su drugi rekli da su vidjeli desetke do stotine njih u svojim područjima.
Penny McMullin volonterka je Australske organizacije za spašavanje divljih životinja (WIRES) i rekla je da je skupljanje i pokušaj spašavanja ptica bilo "poražavajuće" iskustvo. Ona je posjetila plažu blizu Sydneyja i to nakon što je čula izvješće o najmanje 50 mrtvih ptica. Kada je stigla sa šest drugih volontera iz različitih organizacija, zatekla se kako gleda tijela "dokle vam seže pogled".

Nije ovo prvi put da se na plažama nalaze malena tijela ovih ptica. Prije deset godina oko tri milijuna ih je nastradalo na istočnoj obali – i dok se to u to vrijeme pripisivalo prirodnim uzrocima, Organizacija Commonwealtha za znanstvena i industrijska istraživanja (CSIRO) izvijestila je da su mnoge od tih ptica gladovale, a neke su viđene kako jedu kamenje i plastiku prije smrti.
